•  First occasion when they appear as ‘The Nethinim’ is when David organises them.

•  The Nethinim were given to the Levites in the same way the Levites were given to the priests

•  They were the slaves of the tabernacle and temple drawn from among captives.

•  They were always Gentiles •  They became joined to the servants of Solomon •  The first temple slaves given to the tabernacle

were the 32 Midianitish captured virgins of Numbers 31v40 – (v47 “gave – ‘natan’ – them to the Levites”)

A Covenant With Sin

A Covenant With Sin



•  Christ was never deceived by Sin •  He knew what was in man •  He will not judge after the sight of his eyes or the

hearing of his ears •  After 3 days it was revealed SIN HAD LOST •  We can only accept him on the basis of his

victuals •  His victuals of bread and wine are non corrupting •  Fellowship with him is on the basis of a binding

covenant

Faithful Consistency



•  They are noted as being ‘Hewers of wood and drawers of water’ – Josh 9v27

•  As a result they become connected to the water of the laver (the word of God) and the wood of the altar of burnt offering (dedication to God)

•  This connects them with the covenant of Deuteronomy 29v 10-15

Hewers of Wood, Drawers of Water



•  Go find a man bearing a pitcher of water •  The water was used by Christ to wash his

disciples feet •  Within a few hours he was carrying his cross (a

large piece of wood) •  By His blood sacrifice he made atonement for ALL

SIN •  His offering can only affect us if we accept him as

our representative

Nethinim – A Type of Christ



•  Sin deceives and must be destroyed •  Daily association with Yahweh’s altar is the only

way to transform from deceivers into faithful servants

•  The covenants of Yahweh can never be broken by us – He will bring consequences

•  Sin seen in our lives can only be atoned for on the basis of His covenant – the Abrahimic covenant

•  Christ is our ultimate Levite example that we as Gentiles are to follow if we are to find our names in Yahweh’s registry
