ARTISTS2017 STUDIO CRAWL
MORE INFO @ FMVA.ORG 3
WELCOME to the FMVA STUDIO CRAWLThe members of the Fargo Moorhead Visual Artists invite and welcome you to our 14th annual Studio Crawl. Whether it’s your first or you’re a veteran attendee, there’s always something new to take away from this all-encompassing community art event. We encourage you to help celebrate and connect with our local artists by visiting them in their studios. Artists love questions! If you’ve ever been curious about the inspirational, technical, or creative processes that go into making art, the Studio Crawl is your opportunity to actively participate and learn. Art is much more than just the final product, and the Studio Crawl helps you to experience it. Paging through this brochure, you’ll find a talented mix of emerging and established visual artists to visit this weekend, along with special events hosted by our supportive sponsors. FMVA is a nonprofit organization that continues to grow in providing art opportunities for our regional visual artists, patrons, art enthusiasts, and community—including exhibitions, professional development, critiques, visual talks, social events, and networking opportunities. Volunteers are a large part of our organization along with board members, technical support, and members who coordinate education, communications, membership, professional practices, and programming committees. These dedicated and generous individuals help FMVA support the arts and artists, partner with community, and provide artists with a collective voice.
Your participation in the Studio Crawl and other FMVA events lets us know our efforts are successful. Thank you!
TROY PEDERSEN, FMVA Board President
P.S. Interested in getting involved? Consider becoming a member, sponsoring an event, or even volunteering to help on a committee. You’ll be directly supporting artists and the community audience we serve. Find more information at fmva.org, email us at [email protected], or connect with us through social media.
The FMVA thanks these businesses for providing our artistswith discounts as a benefit of FMVA membership.

Welcome to new and old friends. After several years of concentrating on large-scale tile relief and brick sculpture work, I had an opportunity to embark again on a new series of vessels created when I was selected as Mesa Verde National Park’s Artist-in-Residence this summer. This new work strengthens my investigation into mankind’s relationship with clay, as well as a deeper study of geology and archeology. Miniature pieces to wall-work to grand large-scale vessels at all price points. Don’t forget about the annual seconds sale available only during the Studio Crawl . . . limited selection . . . goes quickly. As always, refreshments and wheel-throwing demonstrations by request!

Welcome new and returning guests! I will have new, exciting works in my signature techniques of aluminart and mirglas in various sizes and colors. Come have a homemade brownie and experience the tranquil peace of the Round Hill setting. Also, bring your broken statues and wares for repair/free estimate.

22Ron Williams A Turn for the Better
Wood, as a medium, is a study in contrasts. Contrasts between the darker heartwood and the lighter sapwood. Between straight and curly grain and the folded swirls of burled wood. Between the rough bark and the smooth finish that appears as the wood turns on the lathe. My task as a turner is to find the balance between those contrasts as the rough wood transforms into a bowl, a box, a vase, a toy, or something else entirely. Come and watch that transformation happen!

MEG SPIELMAN PELDOThe board of the FMVA has chosen Meg Spielman Peldo as the 2017 Member of the Year to salute her service to the organization, to honor and acknowledge her advocacy for the arts, and to congratulate her on her artistic success. In her downtown Fargo studio, Meg explores alternative methods employing a variety of art mediums—from photography and mixed media to clay. She combines elements that often result in a constructed style. Her recent work captures portrait style images of wild horses and bison as fine art pigment photographs and assembled images on paper and canvas. Known for her contemporary twist on the genre of still life, Meg is the artist/creator of a photo-essay of quirky art bras titled “A Bra Anthologie,” and the author of the award-winning book “no lumps thank you. a bra anthologie.” Currently a member of the Plains Art Museum Board of Directors, Meg also served on the Katherine Kilbourne Center for Creativity development committee both as a member of the Fargo Public Schools Board of Education and later as a Plains Art Board member. Meg recently completed 47 works for the Family Birth Center at the new Sanford Hospital and is creating another body of work for the new Vibra Long Term Acute Care Hospital, Fargo. Meg is an exceptional artist, teacher, and arts advocate, and the FMVA thanks her for sharing her gifts with our organization and our community. You can find her work at the Revland Gallery, or at her Fargo studio—where you can find Meg and congratulate her.
