Studio safety procedures

• In the event of a fire:

• Safe use of electrical equipment:

• Use the appliance only for its intended purpose. • Do not use indoor equipment outdoors• Do not immerse the appliance in water• Keep hands, fingers, feet, toes and hair away from dangerous

moving parts, cutting blades and the like. • Have dry hands when operating an electrical appliance. • Do not use a damaged appliance. • Pay heed to any special precautions for installation or user

maintenance • Remove plug from socket-outlet before any cleaning or

maintenance• Do not expose cord extension sockets or portable power outlet

boards to any moisture hazards • Ensure ventilation holes or outlets are not obstructed

Voicing concerns and claims

• Express all concerns in writing to the designated safety representative:

• Ms. Jane Smith (Room 123, Level 4)

Be aware of potential hazards:

• Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)

• Take intermittent breaks from RSI related tasks such as typing.

• Ergonomics

• Employers must ensure that all equipment is ergonomically designed and that each worker has sufficient workspace to keep away from their screen.

• Under-maintenance hazards

• Ensure that all equipment is regularly checked up to ensure complete upkeep of maintenance.

• Awareness of conditions such as asthma and allergies.

• Employers must conduct a check of all staff upon initial employment, and everybody must ensure that the workspace is well ventilated.

• Untidy workplaces can lead to fire hazards

• Workers are encouraged to keep a tidy workspace.

• Employers must provide storage systems in which workers can store their belongings.

• Equipment stored overhead needs to be correctly stowed

• Ensure that all relevant furniture provides for this

• Personal hygiene will reduce the spread of sickness and food poisoning

• All staff are encouraged to maintain personal hygiene.

• Supervisors must provide hygienic products such as tissues and hand cleansers for staff use.

• Damaged cables or exposed wires can lead to electrical harm on both property

and person

• Ensure that correct maintenance is upheld.

• Overheating electrical equipment

• Ensure to allow downtime for electrical equipment.

• Obstructions can lead to personal injury

• Ensure the workspace is clear

• The designated safety representative needs to be as attentive as possible to all concerns.

Responsibilities of employers and employees under the OHS Act 2000:

• Employers, managers and supervisors must provide:

• safe premises • safe machinery and substances • safe systems of work • provision of information, instruction,

training and supervision • suitable working environment and

facilities.

Workers must:

• take reasonable care for the health and safety of co-workers

• ensure that their actions do not put others at risk

• work safely • use and maintain machinery and

equipment properly • ensure that their work area is free of

hazards.

Workers must also cooperate with their supervisors by:

• Notifying their supervisor of actual and potential hazards

• Adhering to prescribed safety equipment rules • Carrying out work safely• Following health and safety regulations• Paying attention to signs• Obeying speed limits • Participating in safety training
