Ms. Kamaljeet Sandhu Kooner was the Chief Guest on this nostalgic occasion. Ms. Kooner is from the 1966 batch of students. After the welcome address by Principal Ma'am, the Music Society of SKV presented the India Music Orchestra performing Raag Basant- Bhairavi, which was followed by a musical entitled A Tale of Sun and Moon, directed by Ms. Isabell Boyer, an intern at SKV from Germany. The grand finale was the prize winning Chhau Dance presented by the Dance Society of SKV. This is a traditional dance that hails from the Purulia district of West Bengal. In her address to the gathering, Ms. Kooner recollected her school days and shared some of her memories.

Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya celebrated its 62ndFounder's Day and Annual Sport Meet onNovember 3rd 2018. The day was a celebrationand an acknowledgement of the endeavours of ourstudents in the fields of both sports and academics.The Chief Guest for the occasion was Ms.Kamaljeet Sandhu Kooner, an alumnus of the 1966batch. She is a Padma Shri Awardee and a goldmedallist at the Asian Games of 1970. She bears thedistinction of being the first woman from India towin a Gold at any Asian Games and the onlywoman on the Indian contingent at the SummerOlympics in 1972, Munich.  The Best House Trophy was awarded toVasundhara House and the Best House in MarchPast was won Madhavi House. The prestigious Vijaya Award was conferred uponMs. Kamaljeet Sandhu Kooner. In her address tothe school, Ms. Kooner appreciated the wonderfulperformance of the girls in all spheres of schoollife, to the extent that she wished she could rewindthe clock to be a SKVian once again and participatein such wonderful events that were wanting duringher time in school. She praised the skillsdemonstrated on the field that day and evenfavourably compared the dance carnival to theclosing ceremony of the Olympic Games! In her annual report, the principal, Ms. Misra,highlighted the achievements of the school invarious spheres.

On 23rd Oct 2018 a wellness talk andmotivational speech by Tanuja Sodhi wasorganised in SKV. Tanuja is an alumnusof SKV and was the first woman to havebeen commissioned into the Indian Navyin 1992. She is currently a fitnessconsultant. Tanuja motivated thestudents to join the armed forces andtalked about the procedure andrequirements of this career.

She conducted two sessions for studentsand for the entire staff. She enlightenedthe audience on the importance of agood diet, gave fitness tips and someeasy ways of keeping mentally andphysically fit. Needlework is a way to develop in students an interest in traditional Indianembroidery. The Inter House Needlework Competition commenced on 7th July.Participants were given the required materials and were informed about the deadlinefor submission of the completed work. All the houses submitted their handiwork by17th September. The finishing touches of lacing and piping were completed in timeto be displayed on 29th October. The following articles were prepared by all houses. 1. Cushions (black casement cloth with jute threads,    yarn embroidery or braid work) – two pieces. 2. Dupatta (with phulkari) – one piece. 3. Table mats (fine jute fabric with katha      embroidery) – six pieces. The judgment criteria was: • Neatness and finishing • Adequacy and number of stitches • Colour combination • Design   • Overall presentation.

IPSc Music Fest  2018   On14th October a team of twenty students accompaniedby four teachers attended the IPSC MUSIC FEST 2017-18at VDJS Hisar. The students participated in all thescheduled competitions. The events were as follows:- i) classical solo vocal;  ii) classical solo instrumental ; iii)light music solo; iv) western vocal solo; v) western groupsong; vi) western instrumental solo; vii) light music groupsong; viii) orchestral performance.

Inter House  Hindi Dramatics On 1st October, 2018, students from classes 8 to 12 participated in the inter-houseHindi dramatics competition. On the first day, two houses viz. Madhavi House andUsha House, showcased their talents. The judges for the competition wereMr.Bhujing, Miss Vinita and Miss Gul. The topic of the competition was ‘PauranikKatha’. Each house got 15 minutes to present their play including setting up thestage. Madhavi House presented ‘Krishna Ka Tuladan’, which showcased the moral“money is not everything”, but the virtues of affection and love really matter. Usha house presented ‘Krishna –Sudhama Mitreta.’ This was a story of truefriendship. On 3rd October 2018, the second day of the competition began. VasundharaHouse and Yashodhara House featured their plays. Yashodhara house presented the ancient tale of ‘Ahilya Devi.’ The story revolvesaround a young and beautiful princess named Ahilya, who was cursed by GautamRishi, who transformed her into a rock. This curse was broken when Lord Ramtouches her. The play effectively conveyed the idea of how love and sacrifice gotogether. Vasundhara House presented the story of ‘Savitri and Satyavan’. This was awonderful re-telling of the old legend of Savitri, a beautiful princess, who falls inlove and marries a poor man named Satyavan, who subsequently dies. The storydepicts the fortitude and intelligence of a woman, as Savitri bravely confrontsdeath to bring her husband back to life. She impresses and outwits the terrifyingYamraj, ultimately rescuing her husband from the realms of death with herarguments and quick thinking. Event Incharge Anita Kashyap

Results 

On 12th October 2018, the birth anniversary of Rajmata was celebrated with thestudents of grade 7 and 8 going on an excursion to Vivekanand Needam to learnabout yogic knowledge. During the visit, students enhanced their knowledge of yoga through anenthusiastic session of Surya Namaskar and some asana’s like tad asana, sarvangasana, bhujang asana, etc. They also learnt different types of Pranayam likebhastrika and anolom vilom. After relaxing for a while, the group was eager to commence a tour of theashram’s campus. They also got to know about the arshram’s unique bio-gasplant and its function and usage in daily life. CANADA Round Square  Conference 2018

Five students from SKV attended the Canada Round

Square Conference 2018 held from 27th September to

3rd October at Ashbury College , Ottawa , Canada .

The conference revolved around the theme “Bring your

Difference”. The delegates looked forwarded to various

activities and guest speakers when they were assigned

their “Barraza groups” named after the leaves of

different trees such as maple , apple , birch , etc . The first

day came to an end with the adult delegates heading

towards their accommodation and the student

delegates being picked up by their respective billet

families . 

The second day was in accordance with the conference

theme , as the keynote speakers continued to enlighten

us on how our differences can be and should be

appreciated . Wade Davis , a renowned anthropologist ,

was the guest for the day . He spoke about his

experience of travelling to the most inhospitable parts

of the world , ranging from the Amazon forests to the

polar ice caps . A grand opening ceremony was

preceded by a session with Sophie Trudeau , wife of the

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau . She spoke

about empowerment , not of men or women , but of the

human race as a whole , where people are not divided by

petty inequalities .

The Service Day and the Adventure Day were

memorable highlights of the Conference . As the days

passed by , the theme of the conference “Bring your

Difference” became more relevant with the blanket

exercise .

Moving in their Barraza groups , all delegates had to

reach certain locations in Ottawa on “Explore Ottawa

Day” and complete their given tasks . Maps along with

essential instructions were communicated through an

app named “Whova” designed for the occasion .  

After the race , all gathered at the Aga Khan Foundation

Auditorium where a discussion on the sustainable

development goals of the United Nations was held . The

guest speaker for the evening was Emmanuel Jal , who is

a Canadian pop star . A Cultural Evening was organised

at Ashbury College , our host school . Students of Scindia

Kanya Vidyalaya demonstrated the rich and colourful

culture of India through a Kalbeliya Dance Performance

which was truly enjoyed by all . Sandeepani Vatsa of SKV

was awarded the 5th position in the art competition ,

organised for all the schools by Ashbury College , with

more than 200 student delegates participating .

Post RS Conference Tour to CANADA October 2019

"Go fly, travel, voyage, dare, and

discover."

3rd October 2018 marks the date of a

beautiful journey, as twenty-five

students accompanied by the principal

and two accompanying teachers – Ms.

Garima  and Ms. Radha – travelled to

destination Toronto. They explored

various cities such as Banff, Vancouver,

Alberta and Whistler.

The first visit was to the famous Niagara

Falls. This is the collective name for

three waterfalls that straddle the

international border between the

Canadian province of Ontario and the

American state of New York.

The group travelled through Vancouver

in British Columbia, to Whistler which is

a town north of Vancouver.

Travelling through Kamloops, they

arrived at Jasper, an alpine town in

Canada’s Alberta province, and the

home of Jasper National Park. Amid

the snow-capped Canadian Rockies,

the park has glacier-fed lakes, forests

and rivers. Native wildlife, including elk,

moose, bighorn sheep and bears were

seen.

A beautiful sight was the famous Lake

Louise which is known for its turquoise

waters. This glacier-fed lake is a

celebrated area for outdoor recreation.

On the return journey, the group

stopped for a while at Calgary and

visited the famous Stanley Park before

leaving for the Airport in Vancouver.

On 9th October 2018 , students of Class VIII visited a light-weight mineral-

based industry – Surya Roshni Ltd . , Malanpur .

Students also got a chance to see the LED section where assembling of LED

bulbs was going on . The students asked many questions about the raw

materials that were being used , the chemicals used in the Industry , the

manner of transportation , the procedure of importing raw materials and ,

finally , the export of the finished product .

Sahodaya Inter School Collage Making Competition 

The Sahodaya Inter-school collage-makingcompetition was organized in Aryan Schoolof Sanskar, Gwalior on 27th October 2018.Vanisha Vyas of grade 10 and Swarna Seth ofgrade 9 escorted participated in this event.The participants were given one and a halfhours to complete the collage.

The initial session of one hour was for Class XII and thenext session for Class XI. Participants were guided onhow to attempt the questions according to the marks.The key points of each and every chapter wasdiscussed.

Accountancy Workshop  Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya conducted an accountancy workshop on 16th of October2018.The resource persons were Dr. H. S. Grewal and Mr. R. K. Khosla, botheminent writers of various accountancy books at all levels. The workshop started at10.40 am with a few “ice breaking” games.

Field trip to Tansen’s Tomb Twenty-nine students of History and Sociology went on a heritage walk to

Tansen ’s Tomb , Mohammad Gaus ’ Tomb and Gujri Mahal on 9th October

2018 . This Excersion was covered the media . The highlight of the day was a

question and answer session with the journalists of various newspapers like

DANIK BHASKAR , NAI JEEVAN and PATRIKA .

Eleven girls from SKV Participated in the CBSE Volleyball Cluster Tournament

for Girls U-19 , held at Raghuwansh Public School Sendhwa (MP) from 3rd to 5th

October 2018 . SKV bagged the First Position in U-19 category . The SKV team

was declared the winner of the under19 team and was awarded the trophy .

Revika Rai and Lhkmith Sharpa of Class X received the Award for “The Best

Player” and Saraswati Gurung of Class X received the Award for “The Best

Defender”.

CBSE Volleyball Cluster Tournament

IPSC Volleyball U-19 Twelve girls from SKV Participated in the IPSC Volleyball Tournament held at

BRCM Public school , Bahal from 19th to 21st October 2018 .The school team

reached the finals and played against MNSS Rai , bagging the             runners-

up trophy in U-19 category .

Children’s Day Celebration Children’s Day at SKV was celebrated with great enthusiasm. The children weredressed in informal Indian attire. To entertain the children were various categoriesof staff that included teachers, the administrative department and the housemothers.   The program included   a motivational speech by Principal Ma’am, a group song, aduet song, a fashion show (with a “Twist”), a traditional dance in ethnic Indianattire and a parody staged by the teachers. The fashion show presented by theadministrative department was an enjoyable surprise! It was a day of fun and feasting, set aside to acknowledge the children in our care.

On the 27th November 2018, Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya organised a Mini CollegeFair where both national and international universities and colleges visited theschool and interacted with the students. The universities represented at the fair were Vancouver Island University, King’sUniversity College, University of Victoria, York University, Royal RoadsUniversity, NIIT and Universal Business School of Mumbai. The delegates from these universities interacted with the students of classes 11 and12 and gave them information about various courses on offer, the admissioncriteria and the application processes.

UNIVERSITY CONNECT

The dairy industry in India has been witnessing a rapidgrowth. The main objective of the Indian dairy industry is tomanage their resources effectively and, through the use ofinnovative technologies, enhance milk production andupgrade milk processing in the country.   To learn about this, approximately 58 students of classesVIII  visited Puralite Dairy and Agri Farms Private Limitedon 30th November 2018. This visit was, indeed, aneducational experience.

Inter-Class Hindi Elocution Kavita Path at Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya The Inter-Class Hindi Kavita Path Competition was held at Chitrangada Bhavan inScindia Kanaya Vidyalaya on 26 November for the junior classes of 6 and 7. Threestudents participated from each class. Inter-House Classical Instrumental Duet Competition 

On the 26th November an inter-house classical Instrumental duet compaction wasorganized at SKV. All four houses participated in it with two participants fromeach house. Workshop on MindSset

On 24th November 2018, the school organised “A growth mind-set workshop” forthe teaching staff. The resource person was Mr. Dawood Vaid, an educationist andcertified trainer, associated with the Sky Education institution. The highlight ofthe day-long session was mind-set changes from fixed to growth. The sessionincluded brainstorming and fun activities, games etc. The discussion revolvedaround concepts like breaking stereotypes, employing the right methods of praise,understanding our brain, process vs. results and other pedagogical topics. Thefocus of the training was on ways in which one could bring about positive changesin the field of pedagogy, in order to benefit learners in a classroom setting. NIDHI CHATURVEDI

NRITYANJALI- Inter School Dance Competition

No education is complete without activitiesthat tap into students’ creative skills.Prominent among such activities are thevisual and performing arts. This was the ideabehind NRITYANJALI’, the Inter-SchoolDance Competition, organized by ITMGlobal School on 17th November’2018. Thecompetition comprised a solo classical 

and a solo western dance by the juniors, and a contemporary dance along witha group folk dance by the seniors. SKV participated in the folk dance category, with a dance originating fromWest Bengal’s Purulia district called “Chhau”, which is an enactment throughdance of Mahishasura Mardini, a mythological episode of Durga killing thebuffalo daemon. This was SKV’s item for the group folk dance. The schoolbagged the first position out of ten schools that participated in the samecategory! Kavita Pillai

ROUND SQUARE CONFERENCE, HIM ACADEMY PUBLIC SCHOOL, HAMIRPUR, H.P

A Regional Round Square Conference on the environment was organized by H IM Academy Public School, Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, from October 29th-30th2018, for students aged 13 to 15 years. The theme of the conference was "co-existence" which echoes the urgent call forconserving the diversity of life on Earth. The aims of the conference was to bringdifferent ideologies under one roof and provide them with opportunities toexchange ideas face to face and establish relationships.

The main attraction of this Round Squareconference was the interactive session with HisHoliness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet at hisresidence, which is his home in exile in India.The students were privileged to ask His Holinessmany questions relating to the conference topic"co-existence". On one of the days of the conference, Dham, thetraditional food of Himachal Pradesh, wasserved. The conference presented students with anopportunity for introspection and find new waysto acknowledge the harmonious interaction ofdifferent living organisms with each other.

Diwali Break Report(4.11.18 to 10.11.18)

 4th November- Sunday Children were shifted to Yashodhara House after tea.  A cooking session of Indianfood was organized for five girls from Class XII and Ms. Isabel. The delicious foodwas enjoyed by all. 5th November -Monday Forty-nine children and seven escorts, including Ms. Isabel and a male securityguard, went to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal.  This excursion to India’s most famoushistorical attraction was enjoyed by all and ended with a modern touch -  a visit toKFC for lunch. We returned back on the same day in the evening. 6th November- Tuesday Some of the senior students participated in a saree draping session and had a lot offun. Later, all students enjoyed a movie in MJS Hall where snacks and cold drinkswere provided to all. 7th November- Wednesday Diwali day. Children enjoyed a safe and fireworks-free festival with rangoli andmehndi making events and had a lot of fun. In the evening Diwali pooja wasperformed under the guidance of our beloved Principal Ma’am. 8th November- Thursday Children had special tea and a dance party in the skating rink. 9th November- Friday The students watched a movie at DD mall with popcorn and cola provided. 10th November- Saturday Students were provided with internet hours in the school computer lab. 11th November- Saturday Children were shifted back to their respective hostels after breakfast. Amidst theirbusy schedule, they were given enough time to prepare for theirperiodic/midterm/unit tests which were scheduled to commence on the very nextday. K.Rajeswari

IPSC Visual Art Festival

The IPSC Visual Art Festival was held on 2ndand 3rd November 2018. It was hosted byWelham Girls’ School, Dehradun. Thecompetition was open to students of classesIX- XII. Fifteen students from SKVparticipated in various events.  Participants from SKV stood first in macramé(Chewang and Kingxong), pottery (Chewangand Mahima), relief sculpture (Mahima andKingwong), embroidery (Shruti), and third inalpana making (Shreya Luniyal).Congratulations to all! The students were escorted by Dr. ArnimaRastogi. 

A TRIP TO AN OLD PEOPLE’S HOME  ON 30th NOV 2018

SKV student visited  Narayan Vridh Ashram,an old people’s home on 30th Nov. 2018 The atmosphere was very poignant, so thestudents made an attempt to cheer up theold folks by entertaining them with a specialprogramme that they had prepared.

The students also had an interactive session with the inmates of the home andlearnt a lot about the lives of these wonderful old people. Before saying goodbye, the students distributed apples to everyone. They alsopresented the old folks with some craft work that they had made. They all agreed that they had learnt the lesson that children, when they grow up,should treasure their parents and look after them with loving kindness.
