Dear Students, It is our December issue, marking the end of our year and the beginning of a new one. Typically, this is the period where we review our lives and accomplishments, make plans for the future and, most importantly, come up with New Year’s resolution that rarely get implemented!!! Well, I am going to share with you a very drastic resolution I made this year. I didn’t use the dramatic backdrop of New Year’s; not at all. The resolution came after a build up of many elements and circumstances. You can say it was a natural result leading to an unnatural resolution. In 2015, I decided to bury myself. Yes, you read it right. Without any tears or remorse, without any regrets, I let go of me and sent me to my resting place! And I stood still. Contemplating... What next…? Here I was left with the inheritance of my predecessor, a lady who had a great number of attributes and a greater number of shortcomings! A lady who has left me with a legacy, but one that is loaded by problems and difficulties. So a decision had to be made. Do I bury her along with her legacy, or do I rise up to the challenge and take her legacy to where it once used to be when she was at her peak? At that moment, I took my decision. Tackling one problem at a time, I was able, within a period of less than a year, to rebuild the dream team she once had, to re-instill her spirit, her passion and her vision in every single member of her team. So today, with a new year approaching, an eager, ambitious, highly motivated and driven team is ready to take on any challenge and turn it into a great opportunity for growth and advancement. My students, there comes a time in everyone’s life where we will have to make some harsh decisions. Do we bury ourselves with our past, do we bury the past and saves ourselves or do we bury ourselves and save our legacy? In the course of my life, I have travelled all three roads... The first was the harshest road that I vowed never to take again as it annihilated my memories and me. The second I took when I used to blame circumstances and “others”. And the third... the third I guess comes with great maturity and awareness, a realization that something intrinsic in us has to change and yet there are certain things that we were able to build that are worth reviving our energy to build on or rebuild completely. May every year in your life bring you more awareness, May you live long enough to bury yourself over and over again without ever burying your legacy, To 2016,To you, the you that evolves and recreates every year.

Collaborating for a Change

Eighty Percent

The name 80% is inspired from the theory developed by the Italian economist Vilferdo Pareto who observed the unequal distribution of wealth in Italy in 1906, where 20% of thepeople owned 80% of the wealth. In the late 1940’s Dr. Joseph Jurana, a quality management expert, inaccurately attributed the 80/20 rule “Law of the vital few and trivial many” to Pareto naming it the Pareto principle, which was later used in different areas and by many experts, it essentially means that 80% of the results are due to 20% of the causes.

This theory has inspired 80% “ Collaborating for a change” a social sports firm that aspires

to join the vital few who are generating much of the impact in the sports and fitness industry in Kuwait and the GCC.

What do you offer at 80%? • Professional athletic events• Community & CSR initiatives • Custom Made Sports Programs

Who are 80%? We are a team of passionate female athletes who got together combining our collective 10 year experience in the sports and business development industry to be part of positive change in Kuwait.

City squares are the most visited places in the world and are essentially the heart of cities as it is a place where most social activities are concentrated. Have you ever heard of Times Square? What about Trafalgar Square or Tahrir Square? These are places that everyone talks about and places that, as a tourist, you would definitely love to visit!

Well, now we are able to visit our very own square right here in the country we live in: Argan Square.

Argan Square is a new place opening in Kuwait as it strives to be the city’s hub, a new favorite destination for people to visit when they want to go out and spend time with friends or family in Salmiya. The Square is still under construction but we can expect some major projects from them! It will have everything that we would love to be a part of such as exquisite foodin trendy restaurants, café’s, , charming walkways, and, as we reach the evening, we can make our way to the center of the square as it will always be humming with recreational, lovely, and entertaining activities such as market stalls, artisans, and small businesses.

When the term, ‘a square’, is mentioned, what automatically pops into your mind? A shape, a sense of equality, or a place that includes some of your favorite places to visit? What if we told you that there will be a new location in town fit for all your needs?

A new location to explore!

Square: More than Just a Shape

This new initiative by ALARGAN, which is inspired by their successful project “ARGAN Al- Bida’a”, offers plenty of empty spots for investors and small to medium businesses to showcase their products and services as well. This would be a wonderful opportunity given the rise of locally owned businesses coming up in the country in recent years and it’s highly advised that you prepare yourself from now as the opening is only a few months away!

Spanning a total area of 6,817 meters square, Argan Square will be the first project of its kind in Kuwait. Argan Square will have a spectacular panoramic view on the Gulf Road. It will be distinguished by its center, which will be an open space with no walls, serving as an open square that hosts frequent activities. Designed to bring youth to a vibrant destination where they can socialize, play, study, eat, shop, and participate in all the activities available, the square will have a distinct atmosphere.

We are all equally excited to see how this place looks once it has officially opened and we can assure you that it will be a great place to be! Be prepared for a new spot in town: Argan Square!

AUK Professor Dr. Lisa Urkevich appointed Harvard Visiting Scholar and Awarded University of Maryland Alumna of the Year.

The Chair of the Department of Music and Drama at the American University of Kuwait, Dr. Lisa Urkevich, has been appointed as Visiting Scholar at Harvard University Center for Middle Eastern Studies for the academic year 2015-2016, where she will study the earliest known recordings from the Arabian Peninsula; the Hijazi sound files of 1906-09. Urkevich has already spent three months stationed at Harvard investigating the sound files which were originally recorded on wax cylinders and discovered in Makkah, Jeddah, and surrounding areas. They have not yet been thoroughly examined by the scholarly community.

Around twenty hours of recordings, or almost three hundred individual recordings, survive. Although many include Call to Prayer (Athan), street-life sounds, and Quranic recitations, they are mostly dominated by music; wedding songs performed by women, children’s songs, work songs, and songs performed by professional male musicians. She will return to Harvard two more times during this academic year to complete her research and in Spring 2016, she will present her research findings at Harvard University.

In October 2015, Dr. Urkevich’s accomplishments were recognized as she received the Alumna of the Year Award in Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. The Alumni Association recognizes people who have made outstanding contributions to the University, their fields, and their communities. This year, the honor was extended to Dr. Urkevich, who received a BA degree from the University of Maryland in 1986. She was selected from thousands of other alumni for this distinguished honor. At the Award Ceremony, the presenter was the Chair of the Music Department Dr. Linda Dusman. She showed photographs and video footage of Dr. Urkevich engaging in fieldwork in the Arabian Peninsula while speaking extensively of Urkevich’s professional achievements. In December 2015, Urkevich will visit the Maryland campus to tour the music facilities with administrators and discuss possible future collaborations with the department and its students.

Self TalkDon’t be so hard on yourself. You’re your biggest critic, nobody judges you like you judge yourself. You’re over-thinking the little things, so don’t concentrate on your nose, or your weight; you’re the only one thinking about it. Treat and talk to yourself like you talk to someone you love, you’ll realize how hard you’re being on yourself. “Confidence is like a muscle, you have to exercise it.” It takes time. It’s not going to happen overnight. It’s not a RaceStop comparing yourself to other people. You’re putting yourself in a mental race with people. You’ll categories people as ‘prettier’ than you, or ‘funnier’ than you; it doesn’t work like that. We all have our ups and downs, no matter what it looks like. Nobody else compares you like that except yourself. Someone having or being something more, does not make you any less of something.

It’s not What it Looks LikeModels don’t wake up like that. Know that everyone has insecurities. Just because you don’t know about it, doesn’t mean it’s not there. Everyone is human, everybody puts effort into what you see (even when it looks effortless). So with what you see and judge people by, they will always seem better and like they have it easier, when in reality they don’t. If you compare anyone with yourself, without realizing it, it’ll be with their best moments to your worst. And if you do that, you’ll always feel ‘not good enough’.

Stay in Your LaneGo back to who you look up to; your role models. Don’t get distracted. Your role models should remind yourself of who you really want to be.

Be ThankfulAppreciate what you have already. God is good. You have so much that you’re overlooking if you’re insecure. Insecurity is blinding. You’re focusing on what you don’t have that you want, over what you already have. Don’t chase things you’ll never end up getting while you had everythig you were meant to have had.

You’ve probably checked your Instagram in the last hour. With social media, you get everyone shoving their best in your face, leaving you subconsciously comparing and doubting yourself. Society has built an image to live up to, yet nobody actually does in real life as it’s unrealistic and impossible to achieve. Here are a few things to remind yourself about dealing with insecurities. Let them sink in.

Stop Putting Yourself There!

Under the Microscope

Understand Why If you’re jealous over a specific person or type of people, figure out who you’re trying to attract and why. You’re probably jealous over the reaction somebody gets, whether if it’s from the people you want it from, or the thoughts and image that they get. But reactions are a temporary thing. Don’t try to change something that will change right back. You don’t need anyone else’s acceptance if you have your own.

Find the Right AtmosphereSurround yourself with people who still appreciate you on your worst days. There is an atmosphere of knowing you’re good enough, it exists, find it, and don’t settle for any less.

Find the Right People“It’s a problem if you think you have to be prettier to be loved more.” If you are, you’re surrounded by shallow people, and with them, all relationships are temporary and unhealthy. “You can’t have a deep relationship with a shallow person.”

To Someone you Owe it toKnow that in 30 years you’ll look back at yourself, realize you had so much more than you think you have now, and you’ll wish you were more confident, so do it for your future self. Don’t waste time underestimating yourself.

Farah Ghanayem

Tell us about yourself. My name is Farah Ghanayem and I am a student at the American University of Kuwait. I am the type of person who loves going to different places and trying out new things whenever I get the opportunity to do so. Furthermore, there are many different things that I want to try and hopefully I will get the chance to do them soon!

From the places you have been to, what is your favorite country to visit?I would have to say it was Palestine. Even though I have been to different places, home is always where I love to be! I grew up in Kuwait but that doesn’t erase the feeling of visiting the country that you are from. In Palestine, there are so many different places and different activities that you can do while you’re there and that guarantees that you’re never bored.

If you can visit one country you haven’t been to yet, which would it be? Why?I would definitely want to visit New York because it is simply a place that I always wanted to live in. I love the environment and it is definitely a place that I see myself living in at some point in the future.

What do you consider your craziest adventure?I think that the craziest and most memorable thing that I have done so far was sky diving! It was an experience that I will never forget and, even though it was really scary for me at the time, once you are at peace with the fact that you’re in the air, you begin to simply cherish every moment of it. There is no feeling like that.

What is one high-risk adventure you would still like to do?I wouldn’t say that there is only one adventure that I want to do mainly because I just like to try out new things whether it was a minor or major adventure. Sky diving was one of the major ones of course and it is something that I would love to do again at least one time.

Any last words for our readers?Try things and take risks. You go through life with a lot of pressure and stress whether it was with family or studies and therefore it is good to just take your mind off it all and do something for yourself. Enjoy every moment.

Ahmed Ibrahim

Tell us about yourself.I’m Ahmed Ibrahim. I’m 20 years old and am a student at GUST. I live for adventures and danger. Being out of my comfort zone is my comfort zone, which means that I love trying new things all the time and I never turn down an opportunity to do so.

From the places you have been to, what is your favorite country to visit?Out of my travels I found the most exciting country and where I love to visit would be America, and I know its cliché but there are many adventures and stories to tell. It’s a place that I really loved to go to and would take the chance to visit it again!

If you can visit one country you haven’t been to yet, which would it be? Why?There are a lot of countries that I still haven’t visited and I would love to but on the top of the list it would be Spain. The reason I say that I’d love to visit Spain is because I think it’ll fit my style more with all the activities you can do there, running with the bulls, cliff diving, and mountain biking.

What do you consider your craziest adventure? My craziest adventure would probably be going snowboarding in Bursa, Turkey. Why I think this is my craziest adventure is because I went in “blind”, meaning I never even touched a snowboard before, I just grabbed it, put on my gear, and went up the mountain. It was hard to get a handle on it put after 5 minutes I was ripping up the hill.

What is one high-risk adventure you would still like to do?Sky diving is on the top of my to-do list, I feel like it would be one of very few adventures out there that would satisfy my need for adrenaline.

Any last words for our readers?I’d like to say to those people out there that don’t try new things, get up and get out, you never know what you’re good at and what you’re not unless you try. And for those who love adventure, keep doing what you do and don’t let anything stand in your way. Peace!

The Cayman - built to match Porsche’s exacting specifications and the code of the curve. Consistently realized in a sports car that contradicts the common conventions of the drive, and which reinterprets the fascination of the sports car. Zeina Mokaddam took the Cayman to that place where you can feel the butterflies in your stomach: into the curve, and looked to the future.

As I was fully submerged in work, planning for next year’s budgets and forecasts, I received a call inviting us to a test drive of the Porsche Cayman. Needing the break, I decided to take the car for a ride around town myself. I wanted to take pictures of the Porsche with Kuwait in the backdrop. But which part of Kuwait did I want to portray? What is Kuwait in my eyes? What we focus on is what we will see, and what all I can see is the future. So I took the Porsche to where Kuwait’s future lies. Kuwait’s highest tower: Al Hamra, Kuwait’s new skyline - downtown and more importantly, to Kuwait’s future projects in the making, where the future is being built today, one of which being the Opera House. Needless to say, the red Porsche Cayman turned every head and as I looked in the eyes of the lookers, I saw not only admiration and appreciation of the car’s beauty, but a real desire to have a chance to own one… one day…

One day…. And that made me pause for a while… One day…And why not? Why don’t we all dream of a brighter future where we can have tomorrow what we desire today?

If we dream, and work hard to realize our dreams, and don’t waste time crying over all the obstacles and find enough resilience within ourselves to keep going and to keep working, surely this dream will materialize one day. Suddenly I started seeing the red Porsche differently. I started looking at it from the eyes of every young student at university today, studying and striving to build his and her future, and then I looked again at the pictures I took around Kuwait and it dawned on me. Tomorrow indeed starts today! Whatever we decide on doing today will be what will determine our tomorrow. You want to be successful tomorrow? Study hard today! You want to be rich one day? Work hard and think smart every day!You want to own this Porsche and prance around town with it? EARN IT.And yes, it is so worth it! Don’t take my word for it, just look at it and check out the specs. It is the ride worth crowning a young life’s journey.

The Local Scene Artist of the Month

With only four years of ‘heritage’ behind them, Rick de la Croix and his small team at Bomberg added more than just noise to an already hyperactive watch industry – they’ve added disruption.

While the focus, for many brands, has been to make their watches bigger, to make them thinner, more accurate, more complicated and (almost without exception) more expensive, de la Croix set about making watches relevant to today’s world.

His ‘cellphone’ comment is merely part of his disarming and jocular manner. Bomberg are Swiss-made pieces, with a choice or automatic and quartz movements, and their accuracy fully reflects the precision of his designers and craftsmen. It’s just, this isn’t where a watch begins and ends for him.

“When you love them, watches are addictive”, he says, “and with Bomberg we wanted to create a brand for the people who value uniqueness and individuality”.

Having built his first model; the 1968 Quartz Chronograph, remarkable for its asymmetric case – designed to follow the contours of the wrist, creating a snug and comfortable fit – he then set about creating an image for the brand.

“To create a brand today, you need to make a noise. You can do this if you’ve got access to millions of dollars, but we don’t”, so he turned to social media and developed a message, an identity, some noise. It’s a provocative identity too, and one that he readily accepts doesn’t meet with everyone’s approval.

“We’ve made use of something I call ‘creative disruption’”, he says, “something that, at the very least, starts a conversation”.

He has the same attitude towards Bomberg watches. He feels these also deserve to be something that starts a conversation. “We don’t want to be another watch brand defined only by our price point. We want to create luxury, and give our wearers identity”.

Rick de la Croix isn’t the archetypal watchmaker. He’s not Swiss, he doesn’t come from a family of watchmakers, nor is he too fussed about selling you the precise time. In fact, if you ask him, he’ll tell you for that you’re best to look at your cellphone. What the Englishman de la Croix has created with Bomberg is a provocation; objects that excite the senses and this, he believes, is something the major watch maisons often overlook.

with Rick de la Croix, founder of Bomberg

The Art of Creative Disruption

Their Bolt68 is a perfect case in point. It’s a wristwatch, yes, but can also be worn as a pocket-watch, a pendant or a desktop watch. How’s that for a conversation starter?

“If you make the right product, and offer luxury, people will consume. The positive emotions we create through our pieces bring sales,” de la Croix adds, saying, “we’ve given people a reason to keep wearing a wristwatch. Our challenge is to continue to bringing innovations to the market, to be the first, and to remain unique”.

Bomberg watches are available in TikTok, Soku – The Avenues, Kuwait.

Mr. Ali Morad Behbehani, President of Morad Yousuf Behbehani Group, Mr. Rick De La Croix, Chairman of BOMBERG and Mr. Jacques Tedeschi, Sales Director of BOMBERG Middle East, commenced the event with an introduction of the brand before allowing the media and customers to view the BOMBERG collection.

“It is a great honour to collaborate with such an amazing company as Morad Yousuf Behbehani Group for BOMBERG. Being represented by the most prominent partner here in this wonderful country, Kuwait, is a fantastic opportunity for us” said Mr. Rick De La Croix.

BOMBERG is based in Neuchâtel, the cradle of the Swiss watchmaking. Swiss Made and high-quality brand, BOMBERG is making noise all over the world with its unconventional design, audacious communication and provocative identity which can be seen on Instagram @bombergmea and www.bomberg.ch. This is foreseen by the concept which completely overturns classic Watchmaking rules to create unusual timepieces.

Launched at the Basel Fair 2014, the BOLT-68 shortly became the major collection of BOMBERG with its patented bayonet system that turns your exclusive timepiece into a masculine pocket watch. Together with the 1968 collection, with its unique asymmetric shape takes the wristwatch to a new level opening up new horizons for its trend-setting wearer.

BOMBERG is housed under the luxury retail conglomerate, Behbehani group, with over 75 years of experience. Behbehani Group owns and manages a series of showrooms and stores exclusively for international watch brands as well as jewellery. These showrooms are located in prestigious malls around Kuwait such as Salhiya, 360 MALL, Marina Mall, Souq Sharq, Al Kout, Laila Gallery, Al Hamra Luxury Center, The Gate Mall, Behbehani Complex and Tiktok (Soku, The Avenues).

BOMBERG, the new Swiss Watchmaking brand that’s causing a stir, and Behbehani Group launched the brand in TikTok, Soku – The Avenues on Monday November 9th.

Event held by Bomberg and Behbehani Group

The event, as unconventional as the brand, engaged the media and customers to participate in a selfie competition by selecting from various BOMBERG watches via the selfie box installed in the TikTok showroom.

Selfies were uploaded onto Tik Tok Facebook page so contestants would share their pictures. 2 selfie’s with the most likes will win a BOMBERG watch each – The winners will be announced on November 15 2015.

According to the artists, ‘Moment of Silence’ stands more as an artistic project than a song through its collaborations with local and regional artists, as well as its message. For their music production, local artists such as Soud Al Sa’ad, Bu Faihan, and Khalid Al-Bloushi were included, as well as co-production by Daffy and mixing and mastering by DJ Outlaw.

The video for ‘Moment of Silence’ comprises of a vibrant theme in which the song’s hip hop and Arabic elements can be clearly seen. The video director, Miniature Malekpourchose an artistic approach, providing audiences with a chance to determine the meaning of the song and video for themselves with the help of assistant video director, Tariq Al-Askar.

Each scene within the video portrays a piece of art from the region - further emphasizing the importance of art throughout the music. Hadi and Faisal collaborated with COBA (Colette and Balqis), two local actresses, in order to present scenes that highlight the emotional and poignant nature of the song.

Artwork by Ahmad Al-Ghanim from Thouq and AbdulRazzaq Al-Shamali (Razzag) were also displayed within the video, and Abdullah Al-Bloushi from Stylus Band along with Medi Sultan from Fight Club Kuwait were present as special appearances in the video.

The latest song from the duo debuted on Kuwait’s radio station 99.7 earlier this month, and the music video can now be found on YouTube.

Hadi and Faisal from Army of One released their music video ‘Moment of Silence,’ a song that highlights the importance of taking some quiet time to appreciate the positives in life despite the many struggles one might endure.

Lifestyle Health

Joining the gym has become something that many of us do but what exactly is needed? How effective is it to have a personal trainer? We have a talk with Jon P, a personal trainer who has come to Kuwait to share everything that he has learned during his time in the US. Jon shares his experiences with STUDENTALK Magazine.

Tell us about yourselfAs I was growing up, my ‘fun’ did not consist of things such as instruments or other games but rather we had to depend on our arms and legs so that we can play since there weren’t many luxuries. Sports was big in the urban neighborhood that I was in. I became a track & field runner and was able to use my athletic background and graduate with a health degree in 2010.

What made you come to Kuwait?Kuwait is in dire need of fitness enthusiasts actually. Looking at Kuwait, I saw an opportunity to make a major difference after a colleague of mine mentioned it. I came here with my background and I wanted to help because I knew that I was able to and, so far, it has been going extremely well.

What do you feel is the biggest problem? That’s quite simple: Convenience of fast food. Purchasing unhealthy food has become extremely easy in Kuwait and, because of that, many people don’t think twice before getting that food since they’re hungry at the time. There definitely is access to healthier options but that is not as much of a popular opinion than junk food usually.

It is a challenge to get people more acclaimed to the idea of personal training. Most of the time, I cater to clients to can afford the results even though I really wish that there was more that I can do. I am doing what I can in order to get people ready to live a healthier lifestyle and I am seeing a lot of positive changes.

HEALTH

What is a Personal Trainer?

Jon P

What do you offer?I offer practically everything! I am a proper personal trainer and, therefore, it is my job to be able to cater to your every need. It is what I need to do. All I need to know is what the desired result is so that I am able to help in the way that I can.

What are your thoughts on the university scene in regards to health?I deal with a few college students and it’s very understandable that they have a very busy schedule. With that said, they need to make the time. It’s always helpful if you are able to find a friend so that you can work together and motivate each other through it all as well.

Also, they need to be extremely wary of “Freshman 15” where you gain 15 pounds (approximately 7.5 KG) in your freshman year of university. After that, many students are likely to be obese

by the time they graduate because it becomes more difficult to lose the weight.

You need to make the change early!

Anything else that you would like to add?Putting on drastic weight during university can change a person’s mentality for the rest of their lives. It’s really important to take initiative and make the needed changes in your lifestyle as early as possible. It will make you more confident as a person in the future, which is also a very important aspect of doing exercise.

The full-length commercial will debut worldwide on November 23 at hm.com/life.

Fashion, Fantasy & Fun!

H&M's Holiday Campaign

H&M’s Holiday 2015 commercial is the ultimate celebration of the season. Katy conjures to life an unbelievable cast of characters, from life-sized gingerbread mento oversized presents on roller skates and giant teddy bears. The action is fast-paced and ever-changing, with Katy giving every scene her own twist. The soundtrack to the commercial is “Every Day Is a Holiday,” a new song written by Katy for the Holiday commercial, and produced by Duke Dumont.

“I had such an amazing time shooting this larger-than-life holiday commercial with Jonas Åkerlund with all of the fun clothes, especially my favourite, the Elfie Selfie sweater. H&M has been a part of the evolution of my personal style since I was 13, when I would start to incorporate fun, affordable H&M pieces into my vintage wardrobe. I can’t wait for you to give your wardrobe some sparkle with this beautiful holiday collection,” says Katy Perry.

In both the commercial and accompanying print campaign, Katy appears in looks from the H&M Holiday collection that mix festive glamour, style and fun. It includes pieces such as lipstick-red dresses, tuxedos with open sleeves and a T-shirt embroidered with

sequined red bows. There are special details everywhere, from the fringing on a black mini skirt to the perfect jumper. H&M’s Holiday collection will be available in H&M stores worldwide from mid-November.

“I love the mix of style and updated traditions in this year’s Holiday collection. These are pieces for pure pleasure - whether it’s the perfect party dress for the best night out, or the cosiest fun jumper for relaxing with friends and family,” says PernillaWohlfahrt, H&M’s Head of Design.

This holiday season, H&M is committed to supporting the children in Myanmar with specially-designed gift cards. For each card bought, the H&M Conscious Foundation will donate 5% of the price to UNICEF. UNICEF will then use the money to provide quality education for vulnerable children in Myanmar, where there is urgent need to improve access to basic education. Through the gift card campaign, UNICEF and the H&M Conscious Foundation aim to directly reach more than 350,000 children with quality primary and lower secondary school education in the Rakhine State. Watches Jardin du Luxembourg the Collection: In 1612 a royal garden emerged upon request of Marie de Medicis to decorate the Luxembourg Palace.

Jardin du LuxembourgA Dazzling Collection

Thanks to the vibrant works of the Renaissance, the garden bursts into colors. Such is the inspiration of the Jardin du Luxembourg Collection with each hand crafted dial shaped after its flowers and set with rich natural colored diamonds reflecting the changing seasons. Take a walk through the garden and escape from the ordinary.

The “Jardin du Luxembourg” watches collection comprehends 4 editions corresponding to each season:

• Spring is represented by exquisite pink tones remembering delicate colors of newly fresh flowers.

• Summer shines with sunny bright natural yellow diamonds and deep blue sea sapphires.

• Autumn is symbolized by natural colour orange, brown and yellow diamonds as per colourful trees leaves.

• Pure white diamonds set on Jasmin flowers will represent winter with a light and white snow. Natural pink diamonds in the center of the flowers add to the preciousness of the timepiece.

WatchesHamilton Watches, known for their leading role in the worlds of aviation and cinema, as well as their innovative and precise timekeeping expertise, return to the big screen this fall, in 20th Century Fox’s epic adventure, The Martian.

Hamilton Watches An epic journey with 'The Martian'

The MartianDuring a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meagre supplies, Watney must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring the Martian home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, The Martian features a star-studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.

The Martian opens in theaters starting October 8th, 2015.Reliable timekeeping is crucial not only for Hamilton Watches but also for the leading character in the film, scientist Mark Watney. (Matt Damon). Every second counts and time means survival, so the obvious timepiece chosen to fit such a challenging role is the military-inspired Hamilton BeLOWZERO. This pitch black Hamilton timepiece is a helpful tool for Watney to pull off his mission in such extreme and dangerous circumstances. It features four octagonal bold screw tops around the watch case and a sporty black rubber strap with a double-holed buckle, ensuring a secure fit on the wrist. The Hamilton BeLOWZERO’s rugged and robust high-tech design strike a perfect balance to Watney’s pioneering spirit and need for precision.

The action adventure The Martian also features other signature Hamilton pieces worn by additional cast members: The X-Wind Limited Edition can be seen on the wrist of Rick Martinez (Michael Peña) and the Pilot Pioneer Aluminum is worn by Commander Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain) and Beth Johanssen (Kate Mara). Inspired by Hamilton’s earliest timepieces, the pocket watches which were originally designed

to meet the needs of U.S. railroad timekeeping in 1892, the RailRoad Auto Chrono, is worn by Chris Beck (Sebastain Stan). As the crew plan their incredible mission to bring the Martian home while wearing the above-mentioned Hamilton timepieces, we recognize once again the spirit of precision and reliability, which are great attributes equally shared by Hamilton Watches!

This ”starring” role in The Martian is the latest in over 450 movie placements for Hamilton. The first came more than 60 years ago when the brand’s watches first appeared in The Frogmen. Since then, Hamilton has worked closely with costume designers and prop masters to supply watches to filmmakers. “Our work with The Martian underlines the essence of the brand – the American Spirit and Swiss Precision. Such attributes are so well reflected by the star-studded cast in their challenging roles, so our timepieces really are the perfect fit for this movie. Furthermore it exemplifies the ongoing relationship we have had with Hollywood over the past six decades and how we’ve collaborated with many talented behind-the-scenes professionals to help bring their characters to life” said Sylvain Dolla, CEO of Hamilton International Ltd.

FC Barcelona Attack Real Madrid's Weaknesses

El Clasico!

Real Madrid had quite a good run at the beginning of the season ever since Rafael Benitez was put in charge to replace Carlo Ancelotti. With many of the Real Madrid fans unhappy about the appointment of the Spanish manager, for a while it seemed as though it was the right choice to have him there. Then came the downhill struggle.

Barcelona Show Their Strenghts:It is extremely important to note that, during this game, Lionel Messi was benched due to the fact that he just returned from injury. The only reason that I am mentioning this is because it goes against so many popular opinions which state that the club cannot perform well without their main player. They struggled a little bit when he first got injured but players such as Luis Suarez and Neymar were able to flourish and play extremely well without him and they showed how they are able to work around such a massive loss to the squad. Not only did they beat Real Madrid on the night, but they have been able to come out with an extremely convincing 4-0 win!

Another Great Year For Barcelona?Barcelona have been able to show their dominance during the Clasico and have practically warned the rest of Europe that they are still here to stay even after a wonderful season last year. This is a team that have been able to create a style of play that isn’t seen anywhere else in the modern day and they continue to stick to their philosophies in every single game. Of course, they will probably lose games here and there but they will be one team that Europe will definitely be wary of.

Page 71: StudenTalk #173 - December 2015

أخبار كرة القدم األوروبية

71

Winning Streak:Real Madrid were able to go through the first 10 games of the La Liga season unbeaten and it just looked like things were looking up from there! What was not noticed as much though was that their flaws were hidden under the names that they have on their squad. Real Madrid have a squad that many other teams only dream of having. With names such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale amongst others on your team, it’s not too difficult to win games. Real Madrid then played against Sevilla as they suffered their first loss of the season but not much was made of that 3-2 loss since it was bound to happen sooner or later. The Clasico against Barcelona though was a completely different story.

Rafael Benitez:Rafael Benitez is known to be quite a defensive manager but he has also been able to come out with some great achievements during his career such as winning the UEFA Champions League with Liverpool while he was the manager there. At Real Madrid, the pressure is undoubtedly much higher and it’s extremely difficult to really play the team he wants. With the amount of talent available, Benitez faces a massive selection headache on matchdays but he will have to let go of any background noise such as the fans trying to pick who plays and show them that he knows what he’s doing. The team that he played in the Clasico was surely not 100% his pick as we saw players that he trusts like Carlos Casemiro on the bench after starting all eight matches beforehand. If the manager can stick to his philosophies no matter what is happening around him and also win trophies, the fans will be happy. Trophies are the most important things at the club and not winning them is disastrous. Don’t believe me? Look at what happened with Carlo Ancelotti!

Kanye West has already announced his intentions to run for president in 2020, but could Will Smith be going down that road as well? The star revealed during his first-ever podcast interview posted on Wednesday, Nov. 25, that he’s considering getting into politics — and it could happen soon.

“As I look at the political landscape, I think there might be a future out there for me. They might need me out there,” he said. “This is the first year that I’ve been incensed to a level that I can’t sleep. So I’m feeling at some point in the near future I will have to lend my voice to the conversation in a somewhat different way.”

Will Smith... The Politician!?

Celebrity News

Smith, who, along with wife Jada Pinkett Smith, has supported President Barack Obama in the past, didn’t specify what about the current political landscape has him so angry. But the musician and actor, 47, did note that he likes to keep growing.

“I’m a climber. If I see a mountain, I have to climb it. I’m not a camper. I don’t like hanging in one place too long,” he said. “I think at this point, I’m elevating my ability to be useful in the world. I think that’s what my grandmother always hoped, that I would make myself useful to people in this lifetime.”

Geox, an Italian footwear brand that is best known for combining innovative technology with premium design and fashion, continues its retail expansion in Kuwait by openinga new boutique at the Promenade Mall. The 96.6 sq. feet store houses the latest collections of fashionable footwear for men, women and children as well as an extensive range of the Geox clothing collection. With its sleek and minimalistic design, thecontemporary retail space represents the Italian style and design that are synonymous with the brand.

Geox has perforated the rubber soles of its shoes and inserted a special microporous membrane that absorbs and expels perspiration without letting water in. The membrane’s micropores are smaller than water drops, which therefore can’t pass through the membrane, but are larger than the water vapour molecules. Perspiration, in the form of water vapour, can pass through the membrane and out through the perforated sole.

The Geox patent reduces feet from overheating: the gradual elimination of moisture from the interior of the shoe creates an ideal, healthy microclimate for the feet, keeping them warm and dry in the winter, and cool and dry in the summer.

Net Breathing System features extra-large perforations in the sole that, when combined with the full-size membrane, enhance breathability and provide high levels of performance, even in the hottest climates.

The new store is open daily from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm Saturday to Thursday and 5:00pm to 11:00 pm on Friday.

November 2015Talent Competition:

AbdulMajid Al-Kassem

November's Actor

Are you a student in Kuwait with a talent that deserves to be seen? If so then here is your chance, STUDENTALK wants you! Email us at: [email protected]

Tell us more about yourselfMy name is AbdulMajid El-Kassem and I’m 21 years old. My major is Communications & Media and my minor is Graphic Design. My hobbies include photography, videographer and editing video and, like most people, I enjoy watching movies & TV shows.

What is your talent? My talent is acting. Ever since I was a child I’ve always had a fascination with acting and how the film/TV industry worked, I never thought I’d get a shot at trying it until I began University. What I love about it is that it gives you an escape from reality and allows you to be someone else for a while, and you’re allowed to do whatever you’d like with this character and experience a life outside of your own.

How did you develop your talent?I joined a drama class at AUK. At first I worked backstage, helping with various props costumes and things like that. Watching students perform in front of people had me thinking “I can do that!” so the next semester I auditioned and got in. Although it was a small role and it was the first time I’d ever perform in front of people, I loved it! The semester after that, I auditioned again and got a bigger role, this time I played the lead character’s son, this character got a huge reaction from the audience because of his funny antics. This encouraged me to audition again for the next play, this time I would get one of the lead roles and face new challenges.

What are your future plans?Hopefully I would pursue acting in my future, maybe get small roles here and there on TV. And then that would transition to bigger things. I am not shooting for the moon yet and saying I would see myself in Hollywood in 5 years, but one can dream can’t they?

Who supported your talent?Everyone around me supported me. From family to friends, they all attended my plays and watched me act. My biggest supporter though was my Drama professor and Director of all the plays, Dr Kathy Downs. She encouraged me to get out of my shell and try new things with acting and not be afraid of what people would think, she taught me that acting is an form of art and showcasing it to peoples a beautiful thing.

Did you encounter any obstacles?Of course every actor experiences difficulties and obstacles. My biggest obstacle was balancing university life with acting and rehearsals. Whether you have midterm, a final or a huge presentation to finish, you have to be able to come to rehearsal with a clear mind and be able to become the character.

Any last words for the readers?I would like to tell them to try new things. Although it might seem scary at first, it would be worth it at the end, If something is intriguing and you really want to try it. Just do it. You have nothing to lose and you will gain nothing but experience and grow in the process.

Do not depend on luck for this month. Analyze every situation and be confident in the choice that you make in the end. There will be external factors that help but they would be useless without you being able to make the decisions.

It’s going to be a bright month but not one full of extreme positives. With that said, it is a good time to take on some new projects as your energy and motivation will help you complete some great tasks

The month of December is a promising month but it does not come without its own set of challenges. You may not be able to achieve all of your goals for the month but working towards them will help you realize some very important things as time goes on.

Confidence is your main suit this month so use it wisely. Try to make your decisions count and focus on the right things, which may be a little difficult at this time. With everything coming your way, organization will also be a very important aspect.

Try not to take on many projects right now as you have enough on your plate. Concentrate on the things that matter so that you don’t end up over-stressing yourself this month. There will be time to focus on many other things later on so just keep looking at what’s important at the moment.

Fortune is not completely on your side this month but that only means that you should be working harder towards all your missions. Opportunities will still arise but you need to make sure which ones are worth fighting for.
