Welcome to the 2017 Student Water Conference!

Welcome to Stillwater and the 7th Annual Student Water Conference. It is amazing to realize this is our seventh year for this event. Every year, our student presenters, moderators and judges make it even better than the last. Your participation in this conference is very much appreciated.

Students, I hope you will use this opportunity to learn about the water research of your future colleagues from across the United States. I challenge you to learn at least three new things related to water in the next two days and especially outside your discipline. You will be called to work on multidisciplinary teams to solve fu-ture water issues.

Tweet about what you are learning or hearing using #okstatewaterweek. I am excited to have this oppor-tunity to show off Oklahoma State University and our tremendous graduate programs in water.

Financial support for the conference, travel assistantships, and awards are provided through the USGS 104B Program, the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, and the Oklahoma Water Resources Center.

Thank you for your efforts to participate in the conference. If you are visiting, welcome to Stillwater, home of the OSU Cowboys!

About the SpeakersDr. Thomas G. Coon joined Oklahoma State University as Vice President for Agricultural Programs in July 2014. Before joining OSU, he was director of Michigan State University Cooperative Extension and a professor in the department of fisheries and wildlife. Since arriving in Stillwater, Tom and his wife, Rhonda, have been impressed by the friendliness of the people they meet, and the great relationships between OSU and the agricul-ture and natural resource industries served through the land-grant mission. The support of producers, educators and citizens of our great state not only helps make OSU and the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources strong, but also helps ensure a bright future for the next generation.

Ms. Amy Gazaway has served the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) as the Coordinator of Career Development since 2000. Amy has a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education and Animal Science (1997) from Oklahoma State University and a Master of Science in Counseling and Student Personnel (2004). In addition, she is also a nationally credentialed Global Career Development Facilitator and a certified etiquette consultant. When not working, Amy loves to spend family time with her husband and two children, as well as scrapbook and sew.

Dr. Scott Stoodley has over 20 years experience in water quality and other environmentally-related issues. Dr. Stoodley was previously the Director of Water Quality for the Oklahoma Conservation Commission in Okla-homa, overseeing the state’s CWA Section 319 program. His PhD is from Oklahoma State University where he worked with the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Subsequently, Scott worked for AMEC Earth & Environmental as a Senior Program Manager of Water Resourc-es overseeing all water resources-related programs for the Northeast US. He also served on the National Water Resources Steering Committee, shaping policy and business strategy for the company throughout North Ameri-ca. Currently, Dr. Stoodley is a Vice President of Water Resources for ENTRIX Inc., overseeing their growth in the New England marketplace and continued work throughout the State of Oklahoma.

Dr. Robert Nairn is the Director of the Center for Restoration of Ecosystems and Watersheds, Associate Pro-fessor in the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science and an associated faculty member with the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Program, Aquatic Research Facility, Institute of Oklahoma Technology Applications and Water Technologies for Emerging Regions Center, all at the University of Oklahoma. He holds a BS from Juanita College, Huntingdon, PA (1989) and a Ph.D. from the Ohio State University (1996), both in Environmental Science. His general research areas include ecosystem biogeochemistry, wetland science and ecological engineering. Nairn is President of Watershed Restoration, Inc., and also serves on the board of direc-tors of Engineers in Action.
