CYMBAL Luther High School December 2020 Student Teachers at Luther Alyssa Tessmer is a fifth-year student at Martin Luther College pursuing a double major in Elementary Education and Communication Arts and Literature. Her family just moved to Chesaning, MI, and she attends Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, the congregation where her father serves as pastor. Her mother is a library and teach- er’s aide at the local public school. Alyssa has two siblings and one sister-in-law. When she isn’t busy at school, Alyssa enjoys being active in the fine arts. She has been involved in nine theater productions at MLC and loves to sing, dance, and write in her free time. Reading is another one of her favorite pastimes, as well as spending quality time with family and friends. Alyssa is currently finishing up her seventh week at Luther High School. She has been teaching English I, Creative Writing, and Speech. Her vibrant personality, optimistic attitude, and Christ-like love shine through in the classroom and in all that she does. She has gained learning experience here at Luther by starting off her first two weeks of student teaching virtually and getting to know the students in the classroom at week three. It has been a great student teaching experience for continuing to learn how to be flexible on plans, as well as teaching students in person and virtually at the same time. Here is what Alyssa has to say about her experience at Luther these last few weeks. “It has been such a joy to spend these past weeks at Luther. I have loved learning from Mrs. Eisenmann as well as the rest of the faculty, and I cherish that I can share my faith each day in the classroom with my students!” Wade Shult has spent the past couple months student teaching in Mr. Rosenbaum’s room. He is a senior Secondary Mathematics student from MLC who spent his first three years at MLC playing baseball. His parents live in beautiful Hudson, WI and he loves spending his free time outdoors doing things like hunting, fishing, and sports. Mr. Shult is a natural teacher. He explains procedures thoroughly and has a keen sense of when his students under- stand a concept and when they don’t. He jumped right in for the whole experience when he arrived, joining the football coaching staff and helping with the linebackers and running backs for the last few weeks of the season. is experience has helped him to grow in his comfortability and confidence in the classroom. Perhaps the most outstand- ing characteristic about Mr. Shult is his obvious care for the students’ spiritual futures, as evidenced by his chapel message and his references to Bible passages in the classroom. Mr. Shult will graduate from MLC in the spring, and the excitement doesn’t end there – he’s engaged to be married in May as well!
