Message from the Coordinator
Welcome to our first Spring/Summer edition of Achievements. This year is all about ca-
reers and college. In Spring, we hosted several exciting activities designed to expose stu-
dents to various industries and expand their cultural horizons. This summer, UB will in-
troduce a new career-focused curriculum to help students plan for their future. Also, in
July, we take a 6-day/5-night trip to Northern California, visiting 6 colleges including Sac-
ramento State, UC Davis, Fresno State, CSU Stanislaus, UC Merced, and CSU Bakersfield!

W ith a hectic schedule filled
with AP classes, water
polo, swimming, symphonic band
and marching band, Rocio Valen-
tin, a graduating senior at Cathe-
dral City High School, knows that
she needs to “dig deep” in order
to push herself to succeed. With
plans attend University of Red-
lands majoring in Anthropology,
Rocio wants to work in a museum
and research ancient civilizations.
When asked what motivates her
she says “My family really moti-
vates me to succeed. Even
though things can get stressful,
their intentions are positive I
know that they only want the best
for me. I want to succeed in life
and make my parents proud. Up-
ward Bound has helped Rocio get
a better understanding abut col-
lege. She say “UB has given me
great resources and support,
whether it be academically or
emotionally and their help is
something that I will never ever
lose or forget.”
CONGRATULATIONS, Rocio!

On Saturday, April 20th, 43 students and 5 Chaperones, rose early in the morning for a 7am departure to the City of
Angeles to tour both The Getty Center Los Angeles and the University of California, Los Angeles. This free museum
provides stunning views of the LA area and the Architecture Tour gave students an overview of the rich history of the
Getty architects and their design influences. While at UCLA, even on a Saturday, students were able to see the lively
atmosphere of the campus and the nearby Westwood Village.
