The pride of Kongu region, arutselvar dr. n. Mahalingam is an eminent educationist. an astute gandhian, he is constantly engaged in propagating the cherished values. In recognition of his meritorious services to humanity, government of India has conferred on him the padMa BhUShan award. honorary doctorate degrees were also awarded by anna University, Tamilnadu agricultural University, Bharathiar University and Madurai Kamaraj University.

Dr. M. MANICKAM, M.Sc., M.B.a.Vice-Chairman

dr. M. Manickam is an industrialist with a M.B.a from University of Michigan, U.S.a. he is the Chairman of nIa Educational Institutions and vice- Chairman of Sakthi Sugars. Under his able guidance and stewardship, Sakthi Sugar Mills have expanded and set-up units in many places. Under his guidance Sakthi auto components ltd has modernized and expanded. he was awarded honorary doctorate degree by Tamilnadu agricultural University.

Thiru. M.Balasubramaniam is an industrialist and financial expert. he did his M.B.a. at the University of notre dame, USa. he is the vice-Chairman and Managing director of Sakthi finance ltd.,Coimbatore. he is the director in several companies and under his able guidance, aBT Industries ltd., and aBT foods division had an enormous growth. he was Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 1999. he is the Secretary of ngM College, pollachi.

Shri. SHANKAR VANAVARAYAR, M.B.a., pgd., Joint Correspondent

Shankar vanavarayar is the Joint Correspondent of Kumaraguru College of Technology and Executive director of Sakthi auto Motors ltd a part of the Sakthi group based out of Coimbatore. he has a Bachelors degree in Commerce from pSg arts and Science College Coimbatore, MBa from the Cardiff University and a pg diploma in International Education Management from the University of leeds. he plays various roles in the Sakthi group and with the international exposure in education he is able to bring a modern outlook with innovation and learner centric approach. Shankar vanavarayar was the national Chairman of CII’s Young Indians in 2011 - 12. he is passionate about the heritage of the land and works for the cause of preservation through InTaCh and also The vanavarayar foundation founded by him to work in the areas of history, architecture, culture and heritage. he is the founder of Coimbatore vizha and the recipient of CII president’s award.

dr. B.K. Krishnaraj vanavarayar is the Chairman of Sri Sakthi Textiles ltd., pollachi and past Chairman of CII. he was the Chairman and member in the Central Committee of Bharatiya vidya Bhavan. he was the Chairman and member in the Central Committee of many leading schools, Colleges and Universities. In appreciation of his work to the society, he was awarded the ‘degree of doctor of laws’ by avinashilingam University in 1999 and the ‘vivekananda national award of Excellence’ by Sri ramakrishna Mission, Coimbatore in 2006. he was invited by the pope John paul as the representative of hindu religion for peace. he is a visionary who follows the thoughts and words of Swami vivekananda and visions excellence in society through transforming Indian youth.

Thiru. M. Srinivaasan, treasurer of ramananandha adigalar foundation Trust is an industrialist. he is a Mechanical Engineer and has an M.B.a degree from USa. Currently, he is the Managing director of Sri. Chamundeswari Sugars limited and the current Chairman of Indian Sugar Mills association, he also holds the directorship of various companies in Sakthi group.

Dr. Jammi Srinivasa Rao, ph.d., dSC., President

dr J S rao, is the Chief Science officer, altair Engineering India pvt ltd, Bangalore was born in Madugula 1st July 1939. he became a full professor at IIT Kharagpur in 1970 and then moved to IIT delhi to establish a centre on Industrial Tribology, Machine dynamics and Maintenance Engineering and chaired the department of mechanical engineering. he was a visiting professor at various universities abroad, University of Surrey, national Institute of applied Sciences, lyon, Concordia University, rochester Institute of Technology, Technical University, Kassel, national Chung Cheng University, ChiaYi, The University of new South Wales, Sydney. he was a consultant to over 30 industries and has been honoured by several bodies for his outstanding Scientific achievements. he received Bharat Excellence award and gold Medal in 2002 and recently honoured by IfToMM. IIT Kharagpur honoured him with distinguished alumnus award for outstanding achievements and Contributions, IIT new delhi conferred distinguished Services award in recognition of tremendous services. he is rated no. 1 in the Country in Tata Mcgraw hill publication “100 Managers in action” under the category “Technology leadership and Systems Thinking” and recently he is awarded the Sir Isaac newton Scientific award of Excellence by american Biographical Institute.

dr. K. Kulandaivel has over 61 years of academic experience. he has completed his B.a (hons) and M.a degree in Economics from Madras Christian College. he did M.a (Education) in ohio State University, Columbus, USa. he obtained his ph.d degree from Madras University. he has served in several educational institutions. he was the Chancellor of avinashilingam deemed University, Coimbatore. he has visited several countries and has been a member of various Senate and academic Councils.

dr. M. gurusamy is a Civil Engineer and has completed his M.S in oklahoma State University, USa and the doctor of Engineering in City UnIvla, USa. he has been nominated in the dean’s honor list for his meritorious academic performance in the M.S.programme. he is a senior academician and he has been the principal of CIT for many years and he also has held various positions in top level institutions.

Shri. Babaji rajah Bhonsle is a Civil Engineer by profession and he is the hereditary trustee of Thanjavur palace devastanam for over 26 years, he is the Treasurer of art gallery of Thanajavur which exhibits exquisite Chola Bronzes. he is the director of royal Museum and Convener of InTaCh Chapter, Thanajvaur. he is the Board member of Chatram administration, Managing Trustee of Siddhar ashram and a Board Member of rajah’s higher Secondary School.

dr r S Kumar has 27 years of experience, of which 15 years are in the Industry. he is alumnus of pSg College of Technology and IIT/ delhi. he had earlier worked in MnCs such as ashok leyland ltd., hCl ltd. he is a Mechanical Engineer by profession and has experience in r&d, Service Industry and Engineering Education. he has served in committees of anna University Chennai, aUT Chennai and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). he has published several papers in national / International conferences / journals and has co-authored one book.

Kumaraguru college of Technology (KCT), Coimbatore is a private Engineering College started in 1984 under the auspices of ramanandha adigalar foundation, a charitable educational trust of Sakthi group. It is situated in 150 acres in the IT corridor of Coimbatore which in many ways was a front runner in the eco system.

Under the able guidance and patronage of arutselvar Dr. n. mahalingam, Chairman, Sakthi group and with the able administration of Dr. B. K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Co - Chairman, Sri. m.Balasubramaniam, Correspondent and Sri. Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent, the college has developed excellent facilities and resources such as spacious classrooms, seminar halls, well-equipped laboratories, excellent sporting facilities, dedicated high speed internet connectivity (broadband) and well-qualified faculty. five academic Blocks house the different departments. The administrative building “Dr.mahalingam Vigyan Bhavan” is an architectural beauty and a land mark in Coimbatore.

Currently the college, as an autonomous institution affiliated to the anna University, offers 13 under-graduate (B.E., B.Tech.) and 14 post-graduate (M.E., M.Tech., MCa, MBa) programs of study. all the above courses have the approval of all India Council for Technical Education (aICTE) and all the eligible Ug programs have also been accredited by national Board of accreditation (nBa). In addition,KCT has also been accredited by national assessment and accreditation Council (naaC) of UgC. ISo 9001:2008 certification further confirms the institution’s commitment to educational quality. 9 of the 16 academic departments have been recognized as research centers permitting research leading to ph.d. degree by anna University. The College has 16 academic departments and 10 research centers, each headed by a competent and experienced professor. altogether, the college has over 350 well-qualified teaching faculty and 161 supporting technical staff, in addition to 160 administrative staff. The combined student intake during the current year is 2100 and the total number of students on roll is 6000. a comprehensive accidental insurance scheme covers all. The value of the education and training imparted by the college is highlighted by the interest shown by leading companies for on-campus recruitment. 1. College works from Monday to friday and on first, third and fifth Saturdays.

2. WorKIng hoUrS : 8:30am to 4:30pm TEa BrEaK : 10:10am to 10:30am lUnCh BrEaK : 1:00pm to 2:00pm.

3. The periods in the Morning and afternoon sessions are of 50 minutes duration.

4. The students should wear the prescribed uniform for lab classes.

5. Boys and girls should wear shoes. Boys should tuck in their shirts.

6. The vehicle of the students should be parked in the allotted parking place.

7. Mobile phones should not be used in any academic areas, such as department class rooms, labs, workshops, administrative buildings, library, Conference hall, Seminar halls, etc.

8. Students should follow the rules and regulations prescribed by anna University of Technology, Coimbatore.

9. The hostel students should follow the hostel rules and regulations.

10. Students should maintain discipline in the campus. a disciplinary committee appointed by the principal will enquire into any incident of the report of students’ indiscipline and recommend suitable action to be taken.

11. Students should use the facilities in the campus without causing any damage. If any damage is caused, action will be taken to correct and recover the cost, in addition to disciplinary proceedings, if applicable.

18. periodical reports will be sent to parents / guardians calling their attention regarding the student’s attendance, progress and conduct. Students should bring their parents / guardians to the hod / principal for any discussion regarding the same, as and when required.

19. raggIng is strictly prohibited. any student, who directly or indirectly commits, participates in, abets or propagates “RAGGING” within or outside the campus shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend upto 3 years and shall also be liable to a fine which may extend up to Rs.25,000/-. he / She shall also be dismissed from the educational institution and such students shall not be admitted in any other educational Institution.

In the case of one day sick leave or leave due to unforeseen circumstances, a leave letter signed by the parent / guardian / warden enclosed with medical certificate (for sick leave) should be submitted to the hod concerned through the faculty advisor, immediately when the student reports to the college. Such leave may be permitted only three times per semester. parent / guardian should accompany the student if the above condition is violated.

6. Students’ movement outside the classroom in between the lecture classes is strictly prohibited.

WoMen eMPoWeRMentWomen Empowerment Cell is functioning in the campus under the leadership of dr.J.premalatha, hod / Civil Engineering to empower the women staff and students and make them feel secure inside the campus. The cell is established to provide a conducive environment for ladies and to protect and safeguard their rights and bring about their growth and development. This cell monitors all aspects pertaining to girls’ students and women staff members of the Institution. ThE oBJECTIvES of ThE CEll arE :

z parents are requested to give a list of authorized visitors/ local guardians with photographs. only such authorized persons shall be permitted to visit the students in the hostel and carry out other formalities in the absence of parents.

z Students who wish to go home during working days due to sickness or unforeseen circumstances or important functions or ceremonies must get prior permission from the principal or Warden with a request from the parents either in person or through letter. The presence of local guardian is necessary in the absence of the parents.

4. In case of sick leave for more than two days taken continuously, leave letter supported by medical certificate must be submitted to the college immediately, and the parent / guardian should accompany the student and meet the hod and principal on the day of reporting. The leave taken will be treated as absent and the student will not be allowed to attend the class without the parent / guardian accompanying him/ her on the reporting day (even if the letter is sent in advance).

1. Candidates should note the examination timetable and the seating arrangements made for each exam carefully. They shall take their places in the examination hall at least ten minutes before the commencement of the examination.

2. Candidates are required / permitted to use their own stationery items (except papers / answer books), mathematical / drawing / geometric instruments, non–programmable calculators and approved tables and data books during the theory and practical examinations. no other material / gadget (including cell phone) should be brought inside the examination hall.

3. Candidates are not permitted to bring any pouch / purse / electronic gadget with memory that could be used for storing, retrieving and copying answers during the examination.

4. Candidates should search their pockets, desks and benches and handover to the hall Superintendent / Invigilator any paper / book / note / chit which they may find therein before starting to answer the paper.

5. Candidates shall affix their signature in token of their receiving an answer book in the hall Superintendent’s / Invigilator’s record.

6. Candidates should read the instructions given on the first page of the answer book before beginning to answer the paper.

7. Candidates shall write their registration number in the space provided in the question paper immediately after the question paper is distributed.

8. Candidates will not be allowed to leave the examination hall till the expiry of half an hour after the distribution of question papers. Candidates who leave the hall during the examination (after the stipulated half an hour) will not be allowed to return.

9. Candidates are forbidden to ask questions of any kind on the subject during the examination.

10. Candidates shall use only blue or black ink while writing in the answer book. any other color (except red & green) is permitted for diagrams / drawings / highlighting portions of text.

11. Candidates who have completed answering the papers before the prescribed period of examination shall stand up in their places till the hall Superintendent / Invigilator collects the answer books from them. all candidates shall remain in their places when the prescribed period for the examination is over until the answer books are collected by the hall Superintendent / Invigilator.

12. Candidates who commit any of the following offences during the examinations is said to have committed malpractice :

a) Possession of or access to any papers / books / notes / chits with contents related or not related to the subject of the examination.

b) Possession of any electronic gadget with memory that can be used for copying answers.

c) Receiving assistance from / giving assistance to others.

d) Copying / trying to copy from any paper, book or notes or another candidate’s answer book.

e) Allowing any other candidate to copy from his / her answer book.

f) Found to have any written matter on the person (palm, hand, leg, clothes, etc.), or on any instrument / stationery item possessed by the candidate.

g) Using any unfair means.

h) Disclosing their identity by making peculiar marks in the answer book while answering.

i) Using obscene or abusive language.

j) Writing any appeal in the answer book (for more marks or any other favors).

k) Disturbing the fellow candidates.

l) Scribbling any points / answers on the question paper and / or passing on the same to any other candidate.

m) Tearing off or spoiling the sheets in the answer book.

n) Destroying any evidence of malpractice.

13. Candidates found guilty of malpractice in the examination hall shall be sent out by the Chief Superintendent / hall Superintendent and such candidates shall face enquiry by the appropriate committee constituted by the principal.

14. Candidates who are suffering from serious infectious diseases will not be admitted to the examination hall but may be allowed to write the examination in a separate place at the discretion of the principal / Controller of Examinations / hod.

15. Candidates should maintain discipline and decorum during the examinations.

16. violation of the above rules in any form during the examinations will attract punishment as per the rules of the Controller of Examinations office / anna University Chennai. The punishment will be decided by a committee appointed to enquire into the nature of the malpractice.

having realized the severity of the practice of ragging among the students, the government of India and government of Tamilnadu have directed all the heads of Educational Institutions to stop forthwith such an unhealthy and inhuman behaviour of the students. accordingly, the government of Tamilnadu has promulgated an act (no.7 of 1997) to prohibit ragging in educational institutions. Salient features of the act are as follows :

Definition of Ragging (Interaction without any reason)ragging means display of noisy, disorderly conduct, doing any act which causes or is likely to cause physical or psychological harm or raise apprehension or fear or shame or embarrassment to a student in any educational institution and also includes :a. teasing, abusing or playing practical jokes on or causing hurt to such student; orb. asking the student to do any act or perform something which such students will not in the

ordinary course willingly do.

The following could be the possible punishments for those who are found guilty of participation in / abetment of ragging. The quantum of punishment shall, naturally, depend upon the nature and gravity of the offence as established by the disciplinary Committee or the Court of law :

In addition to the well stocked and fully automated central library, each department of KCT has its own departmental library to facilitate easy access to the faculty. a total of 12,900 volumes are available in the departmental libraries.

CIRCULATION SECTION : all the students / staff members are provided with an identity card bearing their roll number / identity number that is bar-coded. The services of the library are extended to the users based on this bar-code number. open access system is being followed in the library. Users can take

the books from the book section by themselves and submit them along with their identity card in the circulation section. on making necessary entries through bar-code system the circulation staff issues the book or accepts the return. The user is required to sign in the acknowledgement slip while borrowing the book.

DURATION OF LOAN : Books are issued for a period of 14 days for students and one semester for teaching staff and one month for non-teaching staff. a borrowed book may be renewed for one more period, if no other user has reserved the same. on special request, reference Books, Current periodicals, Back volumes and project reports are issued on overnight basis.

OVERDUE CHARGES : If a borrowed book is not returned / renewed within the due date of return, an overdue charge of rs.2 per day will be levied.

LOSS OF BOOKS : If a borrowed book is lost or damaged, the borrower is required to replace the same edition or latest edition of the same book. If it is not done, an amount equivalent to double the cost of the book for those purchased within 8 years or triple the cost of the book if it is purchased beyond 8 years has to be remitted.

REFERENCE SECTION : This section has reference books, dictionaries, Encyclopedias, directories, Exam guides, Standards, Manuals, handbooks, proceedings, high-priced books and collection of University question paper booklets for in-house reference purpose.

BOOK BANK : This section caters to the needs of students who avail the post-matric scholarship offered by the government of India. presently 2,047 books are available under this category. The eligible students can avail six books at a time. They are issued for a period of one semester and should be returned by the end of the semester.DIGITAL LIBRARY AND ONLINE ACCESS : 50 systems are installed in the digital library section with Internet access facility. Users can access this section for educational, research and development purpose. non-book materials such as Cds, floppies and cassettes acquired / supplied along with the text / reference books / magazines

are also kept in this section. a single Cd or a floppy will be issued per user on overnight basis. at present 6337 Cds/ dvds and floppies are available.

They operate their wireless transceivers (a combined unit of radio transmitter and receiver) during their pastime for the sheer joy, thrill and excitement involved in doing worldwide radio communication. Unlike the broadcast radio stations (to whom we usually tune our radio receivers to listen to), haM – radIo is a two-way communication system.

haM - radIo operators can put their voice on the air and interact with fellow radio operators around the world. When all other means of communications have failed, haM enthusiasts have played a vital role in communicating from remote inaccessible places during natural disasters like floods, hurricane and tsunami and have aided rescue of victims.

The college haM Club promotes amateur radio operation among students as a useful hobby. The club organizes classes for operating haM equipment. The club is also involved in obtaining necessary permission from the government departments for haM aspirants.
