Lesson Objective: Students will analyze the most effective publication used for communicating information to the selected audience and for a selected topic.
• In this series of lessons students created business publications based upon selected topics to demonstrate their understanding of creating and formatting publications in Desktop Publishing.
• Students demonstrated higher order thinking skills by coming up with business names and ideas for their business cards, letterheads, flyers and brochures.
• Students also viewed a PowerPoint presentation on business publications

Vocabulary terms and definitions•Business Card – a publication used to
provide contact information to individuals and businesses
•Letterhead Stationery – a publication used to provide contact information as well as communicating specific messages
•Flyer – a publication used to advertise a one-time upcoming event such as a birthday party, sale, or meeting.

Vocabulary terms continued…•Brochure - a publication used to give
information to the public in order to advertise, educate, or inform about a product or topic
•Balance – graphics don’t overpower text or vice-versa
•Alignment – items that are related are justified the same to emphasize their relationship
•Proximity/unity – the distance between elements on a page

Vocabulary continued…•Repetition/consistency – repeated fonts,
color schemes, or graphics•Contrast – size and color is used to
emphasize the most important elements•White space – negative or blank space•Target audience - the audience that that
is identified by age, educational background, interests, and group membership
