These guidelines apply to students:
• On school grounds before, during, and after school hours
• Adjacent (near) to school grounds
• Off school grounds at any school activity, function, or event

Academic Honesty and Integrity
• Academic dishonesty is defined as any attempt by a student to present the work of others as his or her own
• It also includes using unauthorized notes during testing, forging a signature, altering or falsifying school records, or aiding others to ‘cheat’
• Please do your own work and properly site/credit any sources you may have used

Closed Campus• Squalicum is a closed campus during the entire
school day.• Students may not leave campus without
permission. • Students also may not be in any unsupervised
area, such as the wooded grounds around campus.
• Seniors may be granted off-campus privilege during lunch if they meet the guidelines.

Attendance Policy• Students are expected to attend all assigned
classes• There are 5 acceptable excuses for missing
class which include: illness, religious observance, family emergency, disciplinary exclusion, or a school-sponsored event
• Parents/Guardians should call, email, or send a written excuse to the attendance office to excuse absences

Excessive Absences• Unexcused absences of a half day or more
will result in the following– At 5 absences parents will be notified by
mail, parent conference requested– At 7 absences parents will be notified by
mail, parent conference required – At 10 absences parents will be notified by
mail and the courts will become involved• Any forged notes may result in suspension
from school

Tardy to Class• Students are expected to arrive on time to
each class and be in their seat when the bell rings
• If you are tardy the 1st period of the day you must go to the attendance office to get a green admit slip
• Students who continue to arrive late to class are subject to school discipline which will include lunch detention (5), contact home(15), in-house suspension (20)

Hallways
• Any student outside of a classroom during a period must have a hall pass

Breakfast and Lunch in the Commons
• Students should only eat in designated areas which include the commons and in front of lower and upper entrances
• Students are expected to clean their tables by disposing of recycling, compost, and trash in the bins provided

THOR time
• Time for tutoring, homework, or silent reading
• .25 credits per semester for full time students• If the registrar is notified of misuse of THOR
time by a student in any of their 6 classes credit will not be given that semester

Criminal Behavior• Illegal and inappropriate activities such as
fighting, assault, hazing, intimidation,
harassment, sexual harassment, cyber-
bullying, vandalism, theft, etc. will not be tolerated
• These activities will result in disciplinary action up to suspension or emergency expulsion, and may result in a referral to the Bellingham Police Department

Alcohol, Drugs and Tobacco
• Use, possession or distribution of drugs (including paraphernalia) or alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited
• Violations will result in suspension or expulsion from school and police notification
• Use or possession of tobacco in any form on school grounds is prohibited and will result in disciplinary action

Possession of Illegal WeaponsPossession and or use of:• Any weapon• An item considered a weapon• An item used as a weapon• An item used to represent a weapon
Will result in an immediate emergency expulsion and referral to the Bellingham Police Department

Fire Alarm, Bomb Threats, Explosives, Arson
• Any action which places individuals in danger or causes disruption to the school will result in emergency expulsion and referral to Bellingham Police Department

Dress and Clothing
• Images and writing on clothing and hats must be free of intimidation, considerate of health/safety issues, and appropriate for a school environment
• Teachers have the authority to determine rules for hats in their classrooms

Examples of clothing considered
inappropriate for school• Clothing with messages regarding drugs,
tobacco, or alcohol references (this includes advertisements for breweries)
• Clothing with sexual innuendo• Clothing that is revealing, or displays
underwear or the torso• Other messages that are considered a
distraction to the educational environment

Gang Affiliation• Students may not wear clothing, display
symbols, or exhibit behavior implying or representing gang membership or affiliation
• Any items indicating such affiliation will be confiscated and students will be subject to disciplinary action up to emergency expulsion
• Any suspected gang activity will be referred to the Bellingham Police Department
• Bandanas of any color are not allowed

Use of School Computers
• Students must abide by all regulations of the school district policy regarding use of technology
• Inappropriate activities, such as misuse of passwords and email, copyright violations, altering or sabotaging systems, downloading inappropriate or unauthorized files or sending inappropriate materials are not allowed

Electronic Devices• Only breaks should be used for calling or
texting as classroom use is disrespectful to both teachers and peers
• Teachers may confiscate phones if used inappropriately
• Appropriate applications (i.e. graphing calculator application) may be used with teacher permission
• Squalicum HS is not responsible for lost or stolen phones or other electronic devices

• When alarm sounds, leave belongings in classroom
• STAY WITH YOUR TEACHER as you exit to soccer field
• Line up behind your teacher on the field
• PLEASE talk quietly so you can hear further directions
During a fire drill
