Junior School Pupils Create a Tree of Goodness

As we begin the term why not start with a welcome spirit, for no act of kindness no matter how small is ever wasted. Our pupils from Junior School started the term on a high note by being kind to their teachers for welcoming them to the new term to pro-mote the virtue of kindness this term. The tree of goodness is a remarkable activity of moulding impeccable skill and character in our pupils at a young age. Besides, kind-ness is free of charge, so we should sprinkle it everywhere.

Senior Resident Magistrate Swears in Student Leaders After Successful Election

Middle School held tremendous campaigns from 4th-6th February, three days prior to a successful digital election that took place on 7th February.

The elections demonstrate to the learners what venturing into leadership entails as well as the democratic principles and civil rights that guide an election which has followed due process.

IEBC officials observed the exercise and released the results, confirming that the elections were free and fair. A guidance and counselling programme is put in place to prepare the candidates as they prepare for the election. The candidates also receive counselling on how to manage losing an election while looking at the greater good and celebrating the new leaders. The elected leaders were:

DIGESTKPSA celebrates Safer Internet Day with Makini School

The 5th of February was Safer Internet Day worldwide and Makini was not left behind. In partnership with Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA), the school hosted an engaging forum with Elimu Tv, Communication Authority of Kenya, Talanta Institute, CambriLearn, Liquid Telkom and the Ministry of Education. The forum created awareness on issues of safety of children online. Makini guide’s the learners with the SMART policy, which is:

Makini’s innovations team created a digital platform which allows our learners to gain access to past papers and learning materials 24/7 and in the period of August - October 2018 alone we had over 900 attempts. Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and diligence and with that said our standard 7 and 8 students will embark on this platform in March.

DIGESTPROGRAMMES

Makini Signs French Twinning Programme

Makini School continues to scale to greater heights in supporting our teachers and learners to teach and learn French in line with global best practice in language pedagogy by signing a Twinning Programme MoU with the French Embassy in Kenya and a French school on 18th January.

This collaboration involves connecting our French learners to other native French students from French speaking countries. To start off the learners will engage each other via digital platforms

(teleconferencing) where they can share their classroom experiences. In the future they will have an opportunity to travel for exchange programmes, where they can also experience a different culture and way of life. The twinning programme will mainly cater for learners between age 11-18. This will also enable learners to make more informed higher education choices, such as, considering universities abroad and the opportunities that learning foreign languages presents to them.

“‘La vie est toujours meilleure avec un sourire et un peu de français’

DIGESTHIGH SCHOOLMakini School take part in The Olympiad Contest at the University of NairobiContributed by Silas Wafula On the 9th of February over 300 students

from around 40 schools country wide participated in the second round of the 9th Edition of the Kenya Mathematics Olympiad (KMO) Contest that took place at the University of Nairobi, School of Mathematics- Chiromo Campus.

Twenty five students from Makini High School were part of the participants battling it out for the top 50 slot in the Second Round which proved to be very tough and more technical as compared to Round One. This experience gave the learners exposure to problem solving skills in a competitive environment using logic like they always say: the only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics.

The third and final round will take place on Saturday 16th February 2019 at the University of Nairobi, Chiromo Campus. The top 50 students from the Second Round Contest will sit for the third round; towards the selection of the Kenyan Team that will represent the Country in the 27th Edition of the Continental Pan African Mathematical Olympiad (PAMO) Contest in South Africa as from 31st March 2019 to 6 th April 2019. Meanwhile, the KMO Committee has organised the Inaugural Kenya Mathematics Primary Olympiad held at Alliance Girls High School on Thursday 21st February 2019.

Makini School has been chosen as one the three co-organisers of the event that would soon spread to different counties and regions. We wish our primary students the very best.Students from various schools taking part in the Olympiad

The Pre-school and Junior School, Grade 1 and 2, also held a gala on 15th February and 8th February respectively. To appreciate the learners who participated in that event, a certificate and a medal was awarded

for every Individual Medley swimmer. This year, Makini has ensured all learners participate in sporting events and other co-curricular. The school has seen an increase in the number of learners taking part in the Individual Medley; this is where each swimmer does all four strokes; butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. We are proud of each and everyone of you.
