Tours

Page 19: Student ambassador training

• Introduce yourself to the group before you start the tour, if the group is small (5ish) then you can ask them all their names too

• Break the ice with small talk e.g. ‘where have you travelled from today’

• Not everyone is comfortable asking questions so every now and again ask if anyone has any questions

• Wait for all members of your group to catch up before you start talking

• Don’t talk with your back to the group – enter the room – wait for everyone else to gather then address them as a group

Tour Tips

Page 20: Student ambassador training

• Speak clearly and slowly so everyone can understand, English is not all visitor’s first language

• Pay attention to health and safety in the workshops follow guidelines strictly

• Know how many people are in your group and don’t move on unless you have everybody!

• Take care with other tour groups – if you get somewhere and another tour group are there then wait out of their way or go to another room first
