The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph
“…as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must forgive.” - colossians 3:13
Forgiving is one of the hardest things for people to do. We can’t give what we don’t have. We need to receive God’s mercy and forgiveness first before we can give it to others. Go to the sacrament of Reconciliation and receive God’s mercy and forgiveness. Then, give the gift of forgiveness with someone – a family member, a friend or a co-worker. Pick up the phone or text someone right now.
Sacrament of Baptism: Please call the church for scheduling. Attendance at a baptism class should be within the last two months before the birth of the child. You must be a registered member of the parish. Parents are required to attend a class for each child.
Sacrament of Marriage: Visit our website to view our wedding policy for details on marriage preparation and wedding details. Our wedding coordinator at the parish office must be contacted at least seven months in advance of a wedding date.
Communion to Shut-ins: Please call the office to receive communion or a pastoral visit for the homebound.
Anointing of the Sick: Anyone having surgery or wishing to receive this sacrament is asked to call either the office or the rectory. Please notify the pastor upon admission of a family member to the hospital.
Parish Nurse Ministry: Our parish nurses give spiritual support, answer medical questions, provide referrals and make home visits to bring communion to the sick and homebound.
Please call Kris Hintz, parish nurse at 701-730-2909.

THE OCTAVE OF CHRISTMAS
I love the Octave of Christmas. Christmas is about the only "holiday" there is that I enjoy almost
more the days following. And the Octave of Christmas is a real thing in the Church – it is the eight days that
begin the Christmas season. Christmas Day itself is the first day of the octave, and so the eighth day – the
octave day itself – is always January 1.
That week within the octave is always special in my heart. Perhaps it is the extending of the
Christmas celebration itself that brightens that week of the year for me. And perhaps it's also the special
feastdays that occur at that time, and there are many of them – the feast of St. Stephen, the first martyr (Dec.
26), the feast of St. John the Apostle (Dec. 27), the feast of the Holy Innocents (Dec. 28), the feastday of St.
Thomas Becket (Dec. 29), the feast of the Holy Family (the Sunday after Christmas), and the great solemnity
of Mary, Mother of God (Jan. 1).
But I would suppose the overall source of that week's particular joy – at least from my perspective – is
that now that we have finished up preparing during Advent, and now that Our Lord's birth has been properly
celebrated, we can still bask in His presence among us in this world. Now that He is born . . . now we can sit
back a little, breathe a little easier, and take a more positive view of this poor, fallen world. He's here. He's
with us now. We're not alone in trying to plug through each day. Emmanuel: God-is-with-us. I suppose the
glow begins to fade a bit as the weeks go by, and if we're not careful we can slowly but surely fade back into a
mediocre faith life, but for at least this first week, everything is too new and too bright to let go of quite yet.
And though that glow begins to fade – which it does for everything as time goes by – that's where our
faith kicks in. Our faith can "keep us going" all through the year. Our faith tells us of His presence as much
in February, April, July, and October as the Christmas celebration does for us in December. But I still enjoy
and marvel at how easy faith is during this special week, this Octave of Christmas. There's an ambience to the
days that reminds me of Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and – frankly – every Sunday of the year. (Doesn't
Sunday just "feel" different?) So does that Octave of Christmas for me – it just feels different. Enjoy – and
give thanks and praise to our God – for these special days of the year!

American Heritage Girls Troop 5116 stopped by to sing carols
(social distance style, or course)! The group coordinator said the
girls expressed that they wanted to sing for ‘the heroes behind
the telephone that aren’t even in the public spotlight’. They
even brought holiday goodies! We are so thank for this
wonderful act of kindness! You truly made our day!”

A heartfelt THANK YOU to all who volunteered to decorate the gathering space and church for Christmas last Sunday. If you asked anyone about the time they donated to decorate, I am sure they would say that ALL had a fabulous time. The decorating took about 1-1/2 hours and then 30 minutes for cleanup! God our bless volunteers!
