strology is the study of celestial bodies interpreted as affecting personality, human affairs, and
natural events. The primary astrological bodies are the Sun, Moon, and planets, which are
analyzed by their aspects (relative positions to one another), by their placement in 'houses'
(spatial divisions of the sky), and their movement through signs of the zodiac (spatial
divisions of the ecliptic).
Astrology in its broadest sense is the search for meaning in the sky, the acquisition of
significance being drawn from a combination of observation, correlation, philosophy, logic
and lore.
The word astrology comes from the Latin astrologia, deriving from the Greek noun
, which combines astro, 'star / celestial body' with logia, 'study of /theory / discourse (about)'.
Belief in astrology holds firm today in many parts of the world: in one poll, 31% of
Americans expressed belief in astrology and according to another study 39% considered it
scientific. According to Gallup opinion polls, around 25% of adults in the UK and USAaccept that astrology or the position of the stars and planets affect peoples lives, whilst othersources report the figure to be much higher.
Astrology has had an influence on both language and literature. For example, influenza, from
medieval Latin influentia 'influence', was so named because doctors once believed epidemics
to be caused by unfavourable celestial influences. The word disaster comes from the Greek
, disastria, derived from the negative prefix -, dis- and , aster 'star',meaning not-starred or badly-starred. The adjectives lunatic (Luna/Moon), mercurial
(Mercury), venereal (Venus), martial (Mars), jovial (Jupiter/Jove), and saturnine (Saturn) are
all used to describe personal qualities thought to be influenced by the astrological
characteristics of predominating personal planets.
In literature many writers, such as Chaucer and Shakespeare, used astrological symbolism to
add subtlety and nuance to the description of their characters' motivations. More recently,
Michael Ward has proposed that C.S. Lewis imbued his Chronicles of Narnia with the
characteristics and symbols of the seven planets that govern the heavens in medieval
astrology. In 1978, notes from Margaret Mitchells library revealed that she had based eachcharacter from her classic prize-winning novel, Gone with Wind (1936), including the central
star-crossed lovers, Scarlett (Aries) and Rhett (Leo), around an archetype of the zodiac. In
2010, a detailed personal horoscope analyzed and illustrated by J.K. Rowling at the time she
was writing her first Harry Potter novel, came up for sale. The auctioneer commented thatRowling displays a detailed knowledge of Western astrology which was later to play animportant part in her books". Often, an understanding of astrological symbolism is needed to
fully appreciate such literature.Planets in Astrology

To ancient astrologers the
planets represented the will of
the gods and their direct
influence upon human affairs.
To modern astrologers the
planets represent basic drives
or impulses in the human
psyche. These drives express
themselves a) with different
qualities through the twelve
signs of the zodiac, and b) indifferent spheres of life
through the twelve houses.
How the planets manifest
themselves also depends on the
aspects (or angles) that they
form with each other in the sky
as seen from the earth.
Modern astrologers differ on the source of the planets' power. Some hold that the planets exert
their influence directly through gravitational or some other unknown power. Others hold that
the planets have no direct influence in themselves, but are mirrors of basic organisingprinciples in the universe. In other words, the basic patterns of the universe repeat themselves
everywhere, and'as above so below'. Therefore, strange as it may seem, the patterns that the
planets make in the sky reflect the ebb and flow of basic human impulses. The planets are also
associated, especially in the Chinese tradition, with the basic forces of nature.
Classical Planets
The seven classical planets are those which can easily be seen with the naked eye andwere thus known to ancient astrologers before the advent of the telescope. They are Sun,
Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn (as mentioned previously, the sun and moon
were considered by the ancients to be planets). Sometimes the sun and moon were referred to
as "the lights" or the "luminaries". Uranus can also just be seen with the naked eye, though no
ancient culture appears to have taken note of it.
The astrological descriptions attached to the seven classical planets have been preserved sinceancient times. Astrologers call the seven classical planets the seven 'personal' planets, because

they are said to represent the basic human drives of every individual. he personal planets are
the Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Venus, while the social, or transpersonal, planets are Mars,
Jupiter and Saturn. Jupiter and Saturn are often called "transpersonal" or "transcendent"
planets as they represent a transition from the inner personal planets to the outer modern,
impersonal planets. The outer modern planets Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are often called the
collective or transcendental planets. The following is a list of the planets and their associatedcharacteristics.
The Sun
The Sun is the planetary ruler of Leo and is exalted in
Aries. In Greek and Roman mythology, the Sun is represented byApollo, the god of light. The Sun is the star at the center of our
solar system, around which the Earth and other planets revolve, and
provides us with heat and light. The arc that the Sun travels in every year, rising and setting in
a slightly different place each day, is therefore in reality a reflection of the Earth's own orbit
around the Sun. This arc is larger the farther north or south from the equator the latitude is,
giving a more extreme difference between day and night and between seasons during the year.
The Sun travels through the twelve signs of the zodiac on its annual journey, spending about a
month in each. The Sun's position on a person's birthday therefore determines what is usually
called his or her "sun" sign.
Astrologically, the Sun is usually thought to represent the conscious ego, the self and its
expression, personal power, pride, and authority; leadership qualities; and the principles of
creativity, spontaneity, health, and vitality, the sum of which is named the "life force". The
1st-century poet Marcus Manilius in his epic, 8000-verse poem, Astronomica, described the
Sun, or Sol, as benign and favorable. In medicine, the Sun is associated with the heart,
circulatory system, and the thymus. In modern astrology, the Sun is the ruler of the fifth
house.
The Sun is associated with Sunday. Dante Alighieri associated the Sun with the liberal art of
music. In Chinese astrology, the Sun represents Yang, the active, assertive masculine life
principle. In Indian astrology, the Sun is called Surya, and represents the soul, kingship, highly placed persons, and father.
The Moon
The Moon is the Earth's companion satellite. The Moon is
large enough for its gravity to affect the Earth, stabilising its orbit

and producing the regular ebb and flow of the tides. The Moon is also familiar to us for its
different phases, waxing and waning in appearance in an unchanging cycle. For this reason,
astrologers consider the moon to be at least secondary in importance to the sun in astrological
terms, and it is widely considered to be just as important as the sun.
The Moon orbits the earth in 28 days, spending a fleeting 2.33 days in each of the signs of thezodiac. Recently, more accurate measurements of the Lunar orbital period have revealed two
different numbers, depending on viewpoint. The synodic period is measured relative to the
Sun and gives us a period of 29.5 days from new Moon to new Moon, the start of the Lunar
month. When observed from the Earth and relative to a fixed point in space, the sidereal
period is 27.3 days with minor variations. In order to give a figure in whole numbers for ease
of astrological calculation the Lunar orbit can be approximated to 27.75 days which then
returns a period of 54 hours or 2.25 days for the Lunar transit of each sign.
Also important in astrology are the moon's nodes. The nodes are where the moon's path
crosses the ecliptic, the sun's path across the sky. This means that they are the only locations
where solar eclipses can occur. The North node marks the place where the moon crosses fromSouth to North (or ascends), while the South node marks where the moon crosses from North
to South (or descends). The nodes' motion is always retrograde, so that they appear to move
backwards through the zodiac. This motion is the same as the precession of the equinoxes, but
in the case of the moon it only takes 19 years to complete a cycle. The two nodes are always
exactly 180 degrees apart from each other at opposite ends of the ecliptic (i.e. if the north
node is at 23 degrees Aries, the south node will be at 23 degrees Libra).
Western astrology
The Moon is the ruling planet of Cancer. In Roman mythology, the Moon was represented by
Diana, the hunter goddess. In Western astrology The Moon is said to represent the feeling
nature of the individual.
The moon is associated with a person's emotional make-up, unconscious habits, rhythms,
memories and moods. It is also associated with the mother, maternal instincts or the urge to
nurture, the home, and the past.
The moon is used to characterise the inner child within us, as well as the past and how we
have been as individuals rather than how we are now. It is also used to represent the
perception one has of one's mother, so someone with a Pisces Moon would be more likely to
see their mother as a Piscean type, even if in reality that was not the case. In the horoscope theaspects the moon makes with other planets and the transits the slower moving planets make to
the moon are all said to have a strong impact on how our lives unfold.
The moon is also said to represent receptivity, vulnerability, etc. but this should not suggest
that its power is considered less than the sun's. From an astrological perspective (in which we
assume, for the sake of argument, that the earth is fixed and everything else moves) the sun
and moon are the same size. From an astrological perspective, they are equals; a solar eclipse
reminds us of this so that we do not doubt the power of the moon, which is hidden and
mysterious but no less influential.
The first-century poet Manilius, described the Moon or Luna, as melancholic. In medicine the

moon is associated with the digestive system, stomach, breasts, genitals, buttocks, the ovaries
and menstruation, and the pancreas. The moon is the ruler of the 4th house.
Lunar phases
Astrologers traditionally also consider the phase of the moon at the time of birth ininterpreting its effects on the individual. The four phases of the moon are as follows:
First quarter (new)
Astrologers say a person born in the first phase of the moon will have an underlying sense of
youthful enthusiasm and optimism, a touch of the zodiac sign Aries in their nature. They will
probably prefer to take the initiative, especially in romance, and will be ready to look for new
interests in life, new people and new ideas. The person will see how things can be improved
and can spur others to action, before leaving them to finish the project. They will probably get
off to an early start in life and be quite successful when young, though other factors in the
chart will indicate whether this success is lasting. They need to guard against selfishness and
taking others by surprise with over quick and hasty reactions.
Second quarter (waxing)
Astrologers say a person born in the second quarter will be ambitious and sociable, with an
underlying touch of the zodiac signs Cancer and Leo in their nature. The person will be
locked into their goals and have a strong need to create something which will be remembered
by others. They will have a charismatic personality that draws others to them, but mayinstinctively use others for their own ends, rather than help them. They prefer a career where
they are out in front and have attention and status. They also need a place of their own to
express their personality, either their home or workplace. The person should achieve
considerable success when young, but other factors in the chart will indicate whether that
status is maintained. The person will be slow to anger, but formidable when aroused, and
hates to be hurried or presented with a fait accompli. However, they won't mind doing this to
others if it tips the odds in their favour.
Third quarter (full)
Astrologers say a person born in the third quarter will be sensitive to the needs of others andexpects others to be sensitive to their own needs. There is an underlying sense of watchfulness
reminiscent of the zodiac signs Libra and Scorpio. The person will need friendships,
colleagues and relationships, and will relate well to others. They will either be drawn to
highly successful people and help them achieve their goals, or else achieve success
themselves with the help of others. There is a tension and nervousness at play which can lead
to a short attention span and a constant search for new people and experiences, and sex will
play some kind of transformative role in their life. The most successful time of life will be in
the middle years.
Fourth quarter (waning)
Astrologers say a person born in the fourth quarter will have an underlying feeling of the

zodiac signs Capricorn and Pisces. They will finish the projects that others start, and
reorganize and sort out the problems left by others. They will often have clairvoyant insight
and follow hunches rather than be logical. The person can be too sensitive and become upset
by the demands of others, and can also be too inclined to sit back and let things happen. They
will work best in groups and are not materialistic, but they do need job satisfaction. They may
be slow to grow up, but are likely to go through some kind of metamorphosis later in life andachieve success in something unusual and completely individual.
Lunar nodes
While they are not considered by Western astrologers to be as important a factor as each ofthe planets, the lunar nodes are thought to mark sensitive areas that are worth taking into
account.
North or ascending Node
The North node is said to tend to be beneficial in its effects, not unlike the planet Jupiter, and
a possible source from which to derive some advantage, often through no conscious effort.
Some astrologers consider the north node to represent a person's karmic task in the present
life.
South or descending Node
The South node is said to tend to be somewhat adverse in its effects, not unlike the planetSaturn, and a possible source of the draining of energy from the person. It may indicate effort
or even sacrifice is required, often without any expected reward. Some astrologers consider
the south node to represent a person's karmic task in a past life.
Many astrologers also believe that there is a relationship between social and anti-social
behaviour and compatibility and incompatibility and the placing of the nodes. This can be
assessed by sign and house. The nodes also have some bearing on premises, property and
domestic circumstances. Planets which progress or transit the nodes often bring household
changes. These are usually quite minor ones such as decorating or refurbishing a home,
receiving visitors, or leaving the house for a holiday. Family members leaving the home for a
while are also indicated by the nodes. In addition, if the nodes fall close to the ascendant orrising sign and the descendant opposite it, there can often be something unusual about the
subject's appearance - he or she may be very tall for example.
Void-of-Course Moon
Avoid-of-Course Moon occurs when the moon in transit makes its final major aspect
before it changes from one sign of the zodiac to the next. It ends when the moon enters the

next sign. In astrological terms it is a period when human judgement is impaired, ventures are
bound to fail, business deals collapse, journeys are delayed, and historic events during such
periods have an unusual impact on cultural evolution. People born on a void-of-course moon
are said to be highly original and impressionable, who "bear the spark of greatness". They
react differently to life and its challenges. On the negative side, they can have an unfavourable
affect on the lives of many people with their irresponsible behaviour and erratic personality.
Mercury
Mercury is the ruling planet of Gemini and Virgo and isexalted in Aquarius. In Roman mythology, Mercury is themessenger of the gods, noted for his speed and swiftness. Echoingthis, the scorching, airless world Mercury circles the Sun on the
fastest orbit of any planet. Mercury takes only 88 days to orbit the
Sun, spending about 7.33 days in each sign of the zodiac.
Astrologically, Mercury represents the principles of communication, mentality, thinking
patterns, rationality and reasoning, and adaptability and variability. Mercury governs
schooling and education; the immediate environment of neighbors, siblings and cousins;
transport over short distances; messages and forms of communication such as post, email and
telephone; newspapers, journalism and writing, information gathering skills, and physical
dexterity. The 1st-century poet Manilius described Mercury as an inconstant, vivacious, andcurious planet.
In medicine, Mercury is associated with the nervous system, the brain, the respiratory system,
the thyroid, and the sense organs. It is traditionally held to be essentially cold and dry,
according to its placement in the zodiac and in any aspects to other planets. It is linked to the
animal spirits, alongside the Moon.
Today, Mercury is regarded as the ruler of the third and sixth houses; traditionally, it ruled the
6th house, and had joy in the first house. Mercury is the messenger of the gods in mythology.
It is the planet of day-to-day expression and relationships. Mercury's action is to take things
apart and put them back together again. It is an opportunistic planet, decidedly unemotionaland curious.
Venus
Venus is the ruling planet of Taurus and Libra and is
exalted in Pisces. In Greek mythology, Aphrodite (), In

roman mythology, Venus is the goddess of love and beauty, famous for the passions she could
stir among the gods. Venus orbits the Sun in 225 days, spending about 18.75 days in each sign
of the zodiac. Venus is the second brightest object in the night sky, the Moon being the
brightest.
Astrologically, Venus is associated with the principles of harmony, beauty, balance, feelingsand affections, and the urge to sympathize and unite with others. It is involved with the desire
for pleasure, sensuality, personal possessions, comfort, and ease. It governs romantic
relations, marriage and business partnerships, sex (the origin of the words 'venery' and
'venereal'), the arts, fashion, and social life. The 1st-century poet Marcus Manilius described
Venus as generous and fecund, and the lesser benefic.
In medicine, Venus is associated with the lumbar region, the veins, parathyroids, throat, and
kidneys. Venus was thought to be moderately warm and moist, and was associated with the
phlegmatic humor. Venus is the modern ruler of the second and seventh houses, but
traditionally ruled the fifth and twelve houses.
Venus is the planet of Friday. In languages deriving from Latin, such as Romanian, Spanish,
French, and Italian, the word for Friday often resembles the word Venus (vineri, viernes ,
vendredi, and "venerd" respectively).
Mars
Mars is the ruling planet of Aries and is exalted inCapricorn. Mars is the Roman god of war and bloodshed, whose
symbol is a spear and shield. Both the soil of Mars and the
hemoglobin of human blood are rich in iron, and because of this
they share its distinct deep red color. Mars orbits the Sun in 687 days, spending about 57.25
days in each sign of the zodiac. It is also the first planet that orbits outside of Earth's orbit,
making it the first planet that does not set along with the Sun.
Astrologically, Mars is associated with confidence and self assertion, aggression, sexuality,
energy, strength, ambition, and impulsiveness. Mars governs sports, competitions andphysical activities in general. The 1st-century poet Manilius, described the planet as ardent,
and as the lesser malefic. In medicine, Mars presides over the genitals, the muscular system,
the gonads, and adrenal glands. It was traditionally held to be hot and excessively dry, and
ruled the choleric humor. It was associated with fever, accidents, trauma, pain, and surgery. In
modern astrology, Mars is said to rule the first and eighth houses; traditionally, however,
Mars ruled the third and tenth houses. While Venus tends to the overall relationship
atmosphere, Mars is the passionate impulse and action, the masculine aspect, discipline, will-
power, and stamina.
Jupiter
-

9/32
Jupiter is the ruling planet of Sagittarius and is exalted in
Cancer. In Roman mythology, Jupiter is the ruler of the gods and
their guardian and protector, and his symbol is the thunderbolt.
Astronomers believe that it plays an important protecting role in
using its massive gravity to capture or expel from the solar system
many comets and asteroids that would otherwise threaten Earth and the inner planets. Jupiter
takes 11.9 years to orbit the Sun, spending almost an earth year (361 days) in each sign of the
zodiac.
Astrologically, Jupiter is associated with the principles of growth, expansion, prosperity, and
good fortune. Jupiter governs long distance and foreign travel, higher education, religion, and
the law. It is also associated with the urge for freedom and exploration, humanitarian and
protecting roles, and with gambling and merrymaking. The 1st-century poet Manilius
described Jupiter as temperate and benign, and the greater benefic. It was regarded as warm
and moist in nature, and therefore favorable to life.
The planet Jupiter
In medicine, Jupiter is associated with the liver, pituitary gland, and the disposition of fats; it
governed the sanguine humor. In modern times, Jupiter is said to be the ruler of the ninth and
twelfth houses, but traditionally, Jupiter was assigned to the second and ninth houses: the
house of values and the house of beliefs, respectively.
Jupiter is associated with Thursday, and in Romance languages, the name for Thursday often
comes from Jupiter (e.g., joi in Romanian, jeudi in French, jueves in Spanish, and gioved in
Italian). Dante Alighieri associated Jupiter with the liberal art of geometry.
Saturn
Saturn is the ruling planet of Capricorn and is exalted inLibra. In Roman mythology, Saturn is the god of agriculture, founder of civilizations and of social order, and conformity. The
famous rings of the planet Saturn that enclose and surround it,
reflect this principle of man's limitations. Saturn takes 29.5 years to
orbit the Sun, spending about 2.46 years in each sign of the zodiac.
Astrologically, Saturn is associated with the principles of limitation, restrictions, boundaries,
practicality and reality, crystallizing, and structures. Saturn governs ambition, career,
authority and hierarchy, and conforming social structures. It concerns a person's sense of duty, discipline and responsibility, and their physical and emotional endurance during hardships.
-

Saturn is also considered to represent the part of a person concerned with long-term planning.
The Return of Saturn is said to mark significant events in each person's life. According to the
1st-century poet Manilius, Saturn is sad, morose, and cold, and is the greater malefic.
According to Claudius Ptolemy, "Saturn is lord of the right ear, the spleen, the bladder, the
phlegm, and the bones." Saturn symbolized processes and things that were dry and cold, and
therefore inimical to life. It governed the melancholic humor.
Modern planets
Since the invention of the telescope, Western astrology has incorporated Uranus,Neptune, Ceres, Pluto, and other bodies into its methodology. The Indian and Chinese
astrologies have tended to retain the ancient seven-planet system. Meanings have had to be
assigned to them by modern astrologers, usually according to the major events that occurred
in the world at the time of their discovery. As these astrologers are usually Western, the social
and historical events they describe have an inevitable Western emphasis. Astrologers consider
the "extra-Saturnian" planets to be "impersonal" or generational planets, meaning their effects
are felt more across whole generations of society. Their effects in individuals depend upon
how strongly they feature in that individual's birth-chart. The following are their
characteristics as accepted by most astrologers.
Uranus
Uranus For some modern Western astrologers, the planetUranus is the ruling planet of Aquarius and is exalted in Scorpio. In
Greek mythology, Uranus is the personification of the heavens and
the night sky. The planet Uranus is very unusual among the planets
in that it rotates on its side, so that it presents each of its poles to the
Sun in turn during its orbit; causing both hemispheres to alternate between being bathed in
light and lying in total darkness over the course of the orbit.
Uranus takes 84 years to orbit the Sun, spending about 7 years in each sign of the zodiac.
Uranus was discovered only in 1781 by Sir William Herschel.
Astrologically modern interpretations associate Uranus with the principles of genius,
individuality, new and unconventional ideas, discoveries, electricity, inventions, and the
beginnings of the industrial revolution. Uranus governs societies, clubs, and any group
dedicated to humanitarian or progressive ideals. Uranus, the planet of sudden and unexpected
changes, rules freedom and originality. In society, it rules radical ideas and people, as well as
revolutionary events that upset established structures. Uranus, among all planets, most
governs genius.
-

11/32
In art and literature, the discovery of Uranus coincided with the Romantic movement, which
emphasized individuality and freedom of expression. In medicine, Uranus is believed to be
particularly associated with the sympathetic nervous system, mental disorders, breakdowns
and hysteria, spasms, and cramps.
Neptune
Neptune is the ruling planet of Pisces. In Romanmythology, Neptune is the god of the sea, and the deep, ocean blue
color of the planet Neptune reflects this. Its glyph is taken directly
from Neptune's trident, symbolizing the curve of spirit being
pierced by the cross of matter. Neptune takes 165 years to orbit the
Sun, spending approximately 14 years (13.75) in each sign of the zodiac.
Astrologically, modern Western astrologers associate the planet Neptune with idealism and
compassion, but also with illusion, confusion, and deception. Neptune governs hospitals,
prisons, mental institutions, and any other place, such as a monastery, that involves a retreat
from society. Its appearance coincided with the discovery of anesthetics and hypnotism. In
political terms, Neptune was linked to the rise of nationalist movements throughout Europe in
countries like Germany, Italy, Hungary, Ireland, and Serbia, seeking independence for their
nations inspired by an idealized past of legend. It was also linked to the rise of socialism and
the beginnings of the welfare state. Neptune coincided with the utopian ideals of
Communism, when Marx and Engels first published 'The Communist Manifesto' in 1848.
In art, the impressionist movement began a trend away from literal representation, to one
based on the subtle, changing moods of light and color. In medicine, Neptune is seen to be
particularly associated with the thalamus, the spinal canal, and severe or mysterious illnesses
and neuroses. Neptune is considered by modern astrologers to be co-ruler of the twelfth house
with Jupiter.
Nowadays, modern astrologers consider Neptune the ruler of Pisces; traditionally, Jupiter was
the one considered as the ruler of Pisces, even though some modern astrologers consider
Jupiter a co-ruler of Pisces. Some astrologers do not believe that Neptune rules any particular
sign, although they may use the planet in interpretation.
Pluto
Pluto to most modern Western astrologers, Pluto is the co-ruling planet of Scorpio. In Roman mythology, Pluto is the god of
the underworld and of wealth. The alchemy symbol was given to
Pluto on its discovery, three centuries after Alchemy practices had
all but disappeared. The symbol can be interpreted in a number of ways as alchemy was acombination of modern day chemistry, astronomy and religious beliefs; the cross can

represent the earth or matter or the body; the half circle represents silver or the moon or the
mind (lunar) and the circle represents the sun and gold or spirit. The alchemy symbol can
therefore be read as spirit over mind, transcending matter. The symbols were chosen given the
close association with Mars which has a similar symbol.
Pluto and its natural satellite, Charon, form a unique pairing in the solar system, because ofCharon's mass in relation to Pluto. This means that they revolve in a 'dumbbell' formation
around a common point in space, permanently locked in a "power struggle" for dominance.
Astrologically, Pluto is called "the great renewer", and is considered to represent the part of a
person that destroys in order to renew, through bringing buried, but intense needs and drives
to the surface, and expressing them, even at the expense of the existing order. A commonly
used keyword for Pluto is "transformation".
It is associated with power and personal mastery, and the need to co-operate and share with
another, if each is not to be destroyed. Pluto governs big business and wealth, mining, surgery
and detective work, and any enterprise that involves digging under the surface to bring thetruth to light. Pluto is also associated with the day Tuesday, along with Mars.
Its entry into Cancer in 1913, the sign in which it was later discovered, coincided with World
War I. It is also associated with nuclear armament, which had its genesis in the research of the
1930s and 40s. Later on, it gave rise to the polarized nuclear stand off of the Cold War, with
the mass consumer societies of the United States and other democracies facing the totalitarian
state of the USSR. The discovery of Pluto also occurred just after the birth of modern psycho-
analysis, when Freud and Jung began to explore the depths of the unconscious.
In real life events and culture, Pluto has been a major astrological aspect. In art, movements
like Cubism and Surrealism began to de-construct the "normal" view of the world. In
medicine, Pluto is seen to be associated with regenerative forces in the body involving cell
formation and the reproductive system.
Your planets in Signs
Sun in Virgo
Virgos desire purity and perfection in all they are and all theydo. They are generally reserved, shy, analytical, discriminating,
precise, industrious, systematic, considerate, punctual, and reliable. Virgos are hard workers
who usually have a great deal of common sense and are practical, with a flair for detailed
work. On the negative side, though, they can also be aloof, skeptical, picky, sarcastic,
depressed, critical, pessimistic, whiny, and self-centered. Virgoans are happy when they can
work with a lot of details, usually of a technical or analytical nature, in and for the service of
others. They do not have to be the boss as service is more important than leadership.
Virgoans have curious and inquiring minds, with keen analysis and excellent memories. They
-

enjoy analyzing people, situations, and problems. They always want to know how, why, when
and where. It is sometimes hard for a Virgo to relax because boredom is something they
cannot stand. They want to be busy, either doing or learning.
A Virgoan can generally be depended upon to fulfill a promise. They have a flair for
organization and enjoy setting up schedules. There is an inborn love of order and harmony. They are always subconsciously seeking perfection in whatever they attempt. Because they
push themselves so hard to be perfect, they have a tendency to look for perfection in others. If
they find it lacking, they can become pretty critical and faultfinding.
Virgos have a tendency to worry. This is because they desire perfection and are always
thinking about how something can be made better or how they can do something better, even,
and especially, after the fact. This tension can affect their health, causing intestinal disorders.
Virgos need to develop a positive outlook on life, as this has a direct affect on their health. If
they become too anxious about life, they can become hypochondriacs. They are generally
healthy and are always looking for new ways to take care of themselves, usually through
better diet or through natural means of healing. Whether old or young, all Virgoans need aquiet period each day in order to rest their active minds. In any case, many Virgos look much
younger than their years.
In love, a Virgoan has difficulty expressing himself as passionately as he desires. Virgos are
very self-sufficient, but they are also very happy when they have someone to love, someone
to serve.
Moon in Libra
You are kind, sympathetic, agreeable, optimistic, fair, and veryfond of social pleasures. You are a considerate and thoughtful friend,
and have a real flair for making others feel accepted and appreciated. At the same time you
probably possess good reasoning powers and the ability to form correct judgments. There is
love of art and music with perhaps decided ability as a performer. You have a need for people
and relationships. You avoid personal confrontations or any expression of intense, unpleasant
behavior or emotion. You strive for peace, harmony, and perfect balance. You feel unsuited
for menial physical labor and you hate to get your hands dirty. Your desire to be liked by
everyone may cause you to seek peace at any price, thus you can be evasive on issues due toyour desire to keep the peace. You can be quite vacillating and indecisive. You are much
more at odds with yourself than people would guess by looking at you from the outside. It is
sometimes very difficult for you to make up your mind because you see all sides of any issue
and you always want to be fair. You must learn to stand up for your principles.
Mercury in Libra
One of your best talents is your ability to see all sides of an issue,

and to negotiate and bring about compromise and reconciliation. You are diplomatic, fair,
tactful, and reasonable, possessing considerable social finesse. You work well with all groups
of people. You are objective and somewhat detached from emotional bias and may make an
excellent consultant, mediator, or public relations person. You insist upon fair play and seek
peace and harmony in all situations. Your fine aesthetic sensitivities allow you to work in
artistic or cultural environments. You have a persuasive, rational, well-balanced mind withartistic sensitivities. You are flexible and willing to listen to all sides of an issue. This may
lead to vacillation and indecision, though, because sometimes you cannot make up your mind
as to which side has the most merit. Your thinking process works by means of comparing
things and finding analogies. This is when you are at your best.
Venus in Leo
In affairs of the heart you are warm-hearted, spontaneous, ardent,
affectionate, loyal and generous. You hate pettiness and stinginess in
your partner. You seek the Hero, the Prince or Princess, someone you can idolize and adore,
someone you have great pride in or someone who can sweep you off your feet. You crave
love, appreciation, and attention from others and like to be at the center of things. You are
rather susceptible to flattery and love to feel SPECIAL. You want and enjoy drama in your
love life and some grand romantic gesture or extravagant expression of generosity impresses
you. You dramatize your emotions. You are honest, frank, attractive, kind, compassionate,
and fun-loving with a charming personality. You find it easy to be in love with love. You may
expect too much of people and thus become easily hurt. You must watch a tendency to be
preoccupied with your physical appearance when you should be developing your innerpotential. Vanity and becoming a show-off is possible. You need to be admired for your inner
and outer beauty.
Mars in Sagittarius
You are aspiring, enterprising, idealistic, and forever followingsome bright and distant star, planning some new venture orinvestigating new potentials that will expand your horizons. You are a rolling stone. You aim
high and are not content simply with a quiet, secure existence. You like to stretch your limits,
to see how far you can go, and to take risks. You are a positive thinker, expect success for
yourself, and are philosophical about failures. You are flexible and bounce back from
disappointment rather quickly, usually with another hopeful new idea you want to try. Your
enthusiasm and confidence are contagious and enable you to enlist the aid and support you
need for your projects. However, you sometimes promise more than you can actually deliver,
due to over-optimism or insufficient attention to the practicalities involved. You also tend to
get distracted and sometimes have too many things going at once. Although it may be very
difficult for you, there are times when you must simply develop and show commitment,
perseverance, and persistence in order to make your dreams and goals a concrete reality. Toooften you fall short of what you could attain because you are unwilling to persist through the

difficult or less exciting times. You also enjoy competition and usually do not take it too
seriously. You tend to be friendly, optimistic, impulsive, enthusiastic, independent and
argumentative. You may be an active traveler. Your energies need to be used in physical
outlets and you may be an athlete. You have a tendency to exaggerate. You may also have
strong religious and philosophic convictions and can go "crusading" if you feel the cause is
just. On the negative side you may be sharp-tongued, quarrelsome, disagreeable, self-righteous, verbose, intolerant, and dishonest.
Jupiter in Libra
You are philosophical, sympathetic and friendly. You expandyour horizons and grow through using your ability to be outgoing
with and well-liked by others. You have the ability to encourage others towards greaterefforts. There is a love for beautiful things and perhaps an interest in art or law. On thenegative side, there is danger of self-indulgence or extravagance, and a desire to improve
social status through marriage rather than establishing a partnership based on true love. There
may be more concern to demonstrate to the world that the marriage has been successful rather
than happy. Much expense may be incurred through partnership, perhaps on account of the
marriage partner's extravagant tastes.
Saturn in Taurus
You are very persistent in carrying out your goals. You can beoverly concerned with material possessions and in wanting to squirrel
away too much for that proverbial rainy day. You tend to place too much emphasis on
material goods and possessions for security and if carried too far, you can become miserly and
miserable due to worrying about what might happen tomorrow and will you have enough
money to cover things. You need to re-evaluate your values and where true security comes
from. On the positive side, you are a tireless worker and have patience, caution,
determination, discipline, organizing ability and can go the distance when those around you
fall. Hard work is your forte. Your feelings are serious, well-controlled and not easilychanged, although at times it may be hard for you to forgive and forget. Loyalty is important
to you. Building structures that last is a need you have.

House
The planets represent energiesand cosmic forces that can be
utilized in various ways. They are
like the actors in a play. Houses
represent the different spheres of life
where these energies can be and are
brought to bear, for better or for
worse. If the planets are the actors in
a play, then the houses represent the
various settings in which the actorsplay out their roles (signs).
The houses are divisions of the
ecliptic plane (the path of the sun
across the sky) as seen from the
earth at the time and place of the
horoscope in question. They are
numbered counter-clockwise from
the position of the eastern horizon (the cusp of the first house) at the time of the subject being
charted. Houses one through six are below the horizon, while houses seven through twelve are
above the horizon.
There are a range of approaches to calculating these divisions and different opinions among
astrologers over which house system is most accurate. To calculate the houses, it is necessary
to know the exact time, date, and location. In natal astrology, some astrologers will use a birth
time set for noon or sunrise if the actual time of birth is unknown. An accurate interpretation
of such a chart, however, cannot be expected.
The several methods of calculating house divisions stem from disagreement over what they
mean mathematically and temporally. All house systems in Western astrology use twelve
houses. The differences arise from whether the houses represent units of time, or degrees of
distance in the heavens.
-

17/32
If time is the basis for house division, a difference must be made for whether the houses are
based on invariant equal hours (each house represents 2 hours of the sun's apparent movement
each day) or temporal hours (daytime and night-time divided into six equal parts, but here the
temporal hours will vary according to season and latitude.)
If space in the heavens is the basis for house division, the sky is divided into equal arcs of 30each. Here, too, a difference will be made as to whether these divisions are made based on the
ecliptic, or on the celestial equator. Regardless of these different methods, all house divisions
in Western astrology share certain things in common: they will all place the cusp of the first
house on the ascendant, the fourth house at the imum coeli, the seventh at the descendant, and
the tenth at the midheaven, which is the intersection of the ecliptic with the local
meridian. Many modern astrologers assume that the houses relate to their corresponding signs,
i.e. that the first house has a natural affinity with the first sign, Aries, and so on.
The Twelve Houses
The Babylonians may have been the first to set out the twelve houses used today by themajority of astrologers. The houses were numbered from the east downward under the
horizon, and represented areas of life on the following pattern with their areas of influence.
These are their traditional Latin names of the twelve houses, with their translations and otherassociated influences. This represents the basic outline of the houses as they are still
understood today.

Quadrants, Modality and Triplicities
In quadrant systems houses are classified as Angular, Succedent and Cadent. The houses
themselves are respectively ruled by signs according to the astrological modality: Cardinal,
Fixed, and Mutable.

Angular houses are points of initiation and represent action. The signs ruling angular housesare all Cardinal signs: Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. However, the discovery of a
document called the Thema Mundi, or chart of the world, by Project Hindsight, suggests
something different. In the chart of the world, the sign Cancer is on the ascendant, Leo is on
the 2nd house, and so on. The Thema Mundi is the chart that is considered the key to the
Helenistic system of astrology, from which much of modern astrology is derived, though at
times inaccurately.
Succedent houses are points of purpose and represent stabilization. The signs ruling
Succedent houses are all Fixed: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. And finally, Cadent
houses are points of transition and they represent change and adaptation. Cadent houses are
ruled by Mutable Signs: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.
Furthermore, the houses are also grouped together by Triplicity: When one of the four
elements (fire, earth, air, and water) in which the zodiac sign that rules the house is placed.
There are three zodiac signs that fall within one of these four elements, hence their respective
moniker, "The Triplicities".

In old astrological writings (e.g. William Lilly), house could also be used as a synonym for
domicile or rulership, as in the sentence "The Moon has its house in Cancer" meaning that
Cancer is ruled by the Moon. It may be helpful to think of a ruling planet, in this case the
Moon, as the "owner of the 4th House", and the sign, e.g.Cancer, as the CEO or landlord who
runs the house. In an individual horoscope, whatever sign occupies any given house can bethought of as the house's tenant.
In Indian astrology, the twelve houses are called Bhava and have meanings very similar to
their Western counterparts.
Systems of House Division
There are many systems of house division. In most the ecliptic is divided into houses and the
ascendant (eastern horizon) marks the cusp, or beginning, of the first house, and the
descendant (western horizon) marks the cusp of the seventh house. Many systems of housedivision called quadrant house systems also use the midheaven (medium coeli) as the cusp of
-
8/2/2019 Strology is the Study of Celestial Bodies Interpreted as Affecting Personality
21/32
the tenth house and the nadir (imum coeli) as the cusp of the fourth house. Some house
systems divide the celestial equator and the prime vertical instead of the ecliptic.
The earliest systems (whole sign and equal house) linked the houses to the signs of the zodiac.
The equal house system defines houses as 30-degree sectors of the ecliptic, so that the cusp of
each house falls on the same degree of each zodiac sign. One outcome of this is that a varyingangle occurs between the ascendant and midheaven in higher latitudes. Attempts to reconcile
the concept of "quadrants" with the varying angle between midheaven and ascendant lead to
more complicated house systems. These became more relevant as astrology spread from
subtropical regions to higher latitudes.
Goals for a house system include ease of computation; agreement with the "quadrant" concept
(ascendant on the first house cusp, nadir on the fourth, descendant on the seventh, and
midheaven on the tenth); defined and meaningful behaviour in the polar regions; acceptable
handling of heavenly bodies of high latitude (a distinct problem from high-latitude locations
on the Earth's surface); and symbolic value. It is impossible for any system to satisfy all the
criteria completely, so each one represents a different compromise. The extremely popularPlacidus and Koch systems, in particular, can generate undefined results in the polar circles.
Research and debate on the merits of different house systems is ongoing.
Early Forms of House Division
The earliest forms of house division were those that link with, or run parallel to, the signs of
the zodiac along the ecliptic. Proponents of the equal house system claim that it is more
accurate and less distorting in higher latitudes (especially above 60 degrees) than the
Placidean and other quadrant house systems.
Whole sign
In the whole sign house system, sometimes referred to as the 'Sign-House system', the houses
are 30 each. The ascendant designates the rising sign, and the first house begins at zero
degrees of the zodiac sign in which the ascendant falls, regardless of how early or late in that
sign the ascendant is. The next sign after the ascending sign then becomes the 2nd house, the
sign after that the 3rd house, and so on. In other words, each house is wholly filled by one
sign. This was the main system used in the Hellenistic tradition of astrology, and is also used
in Indian astrology, as well as in some early traditions of Medieval astrology. It is thought to
be the oldest system of house division.
The Whole Sign system may have been developed in the Hellenistic tradition of astrology
sometime around the 1st or 2nd century BCE, and from there it may have passed to the Indian
and early Medieval traditions of astrology; though the line of thought which states that it was
transmitted to India from Western locales is hotly contested. At some point in the Medieval
period, probably around the 10th century, whole sign houses fell into disuse in the western
tradition, and by the 20th century the system was completely unknown in the western
astrological community, although was continually used in India all the way into the present
time. Beginning in the 1980s and 1990s the system was rediscovered and reintroduced into
western astrology. The distinction between equal houses and whole sign houses lies in the factthat in whole sign houses the cusp of the 1st house is the beginning of the sign that contains
-
8/2/2019 Strology is the Study of Celestial Bodies Interpreted as Affecting Personality
22/32
the ascendant, while in equal houses the degree of the ascendant is itself the cusp of the 1st
house.
Equal House
In the equal house system the ecliptic is also divided into twelve divisions of 30 degrees, although the houses are measured out in 30 degree increments starting from the degree of the
ascendant. It begins with the ascendant, which acts as the 'cusp' or starting point of the 1st
house, then the second house begins exactly 30 degrees later in zodiacal order, then the third
house begins exactly 30 degrees later in zodiacal order from the 2nd house, and so on.
The MC in Whole Sign & Equal House Systems
In the whole sign and equal house systems the Medium Coeli (Midheaven), the highest point
in the chart, does not act as the cusp or starting point of the 10th house. Instead the MC moves
around the top half of the chart, and can land anywhere in the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th,
depending on the latitude. The MC retains its commonly agreed significations, but it doesn'tact as the starting point of the 10th house, therefore in Equal house it adds extra definition and
meaning to MC and the cusps involved, but always MC is same in interpretations as other
house systems.
This is also the more common criticism of the whole sign and equal house method as it
concerns the location of the Medium Coeli (Midheaven), the highest point in the chart. In the
equal house system, the ascendant/descendant and midheaven/nadir axes can vary from being
perpendicular to each other (from approx. +-5 deg at most at equator to approx. +-15 degrees
at Alexandria to +-90 degrees at polar circle). As a result, equal houses counted from the
ascendant cannot in general place the midheaven on the tenth house cusp, where many feel it
would be symbolically desirable. Since this point is associated with ambition, career, and
public image, the argument is that the Midheaven, therefore, must be the cusp of the similar
tenth house. It has also been linked by extension with Capricorn (the tenth sign of the zodiac).
Because the Whole Sign and Equal House system do take the Midheaven into account, but
relies on the location of the Ascendant, it can be found anywhere between the 8th and 11th
houses.
Quadrant House Systems
Quadrant house systems divide the houses so that they agree with the "quadrant" concept
(ascendant on the first house cusp, nadir on the fourth, descendant on the seventh, andmidheaven on the tenth).
Porphyry
Each quadrant of the ecliptic is divided into three equal parts between the four angles. This is
the oldest system of quadrant style house division. Although it is attributed to Porphyry of
Tyros, this system was first described by the 2nd century astrologer Vettius Valens, in the 3rd
book of his astrological compendium known as The Anthology.
Alchabitius
The predecessor system to the Placidus, which largely replaced the Porphyry. The difference
-
8/2/2019 Strology is the Study of Celestial Bodies Interpreted as Affecting Personality
23/32
with Placidus is that the time that it takes the ascendant to reach the meridian is divided
equally into three parts. The Alchabitius house system was very popular in Europe before the
introduction of the Regiomontanus system. Alchabitius (or Alcabitius ), was a 10th century
Arabian astrologer (died 967).
Regiomontanus
The celestial equator is divided into twelve, and these divisions are projected on to the ecliptic
along great circles that take in the north and south points on the horizon. Named after the
German astronomer and astrologer Johann Mller of Knigsberg. The Regiomontanus system
was later largely replaced by the Placidus system.
Meridian
Similar to Regiomontanus, except that the east point is taken as the ascendant.
Placidus
This is the most commonly used house system in modern Western astrology. The paths drawn
for each degree of the ecliptic to move from the nadir to the horizon, and from the horizon to
the midheaven, are trisected to determine the cusps of houses 2, 3, 11, and 12. The cusps of
houses 8, 9, 5 and 6 are opposite these. The Placidus system is sometimes not defined beyond
polar circles (latitudes greater than 66N or 66S), because certain degrees are circumpolar
(never touch the horizon), and planets falling in them cannot be assigned to houses without
extending the system. This is the result of his weaknesses of the Placidean system according
to its critics, which often cite the exceptional house proportions in the higher latitudes.
Named for 17th century astrologer Placidus de Titis, it is thought the Placidus system was
first mentioned about 13th century in Arab literature, but the first confirmed publication was
in 1602 by Giovanni Antonii Magini (15551617) in his book "Tabulae Primi Mobilis, quasDirectionem Vulgo Dicunt". The first documented usage is from Czech, 1627. Later it was
popularized by Catholic Church as an argument for Ptolemy's geocentric theory of the Solar
System, in the campaign against the heliocentric theory. Placidus, a professor of mathematics,
was named as its author to give it credibility to his contemporaries. Placidus remains the most
popular system among English-speaking astrologers.
Campanus
The prime vertical (the great circle taking in the zenith and east point on the horizon) is
divided into twelve, and these divisions are projected on to the ecliptic along great circles that
take in the north and south points on the horizon. It is attributed to Campanus of Novara but
the method is known to have been used before his time.
Koch
A rather more complicated version of the Placidus system, built on equal increments of Right
Ascension for each quadrant. The Koch system was developed by the German astrologer
Walter Koch (18951970) and is defined only for latitudes between 66N and 66S. This
system is popular among research astrologers in the U.S. and among German speakers, but inCentral Europe lost some popularity to the Krusiski house system.

Topocentric
This is a recent system, invented in Argentina, that its creators claim has been determined
empirically, i.e. by observing events in people's lives and assessing the geometry of a house
system that would fit. The house cusps are always within a degree of those given in thePlacidus system. The topocentric system can also be described as an approximation algorithm
for the Placidus system.
Topocentric houses are also called Polich-Page, after the names of the house system creators,
Wendel Polich and A. Page Nelson.
Neo-Porphyry
The Neo-Porphyry system of house division is similar to Porphyry houses except that instead
of each quadrant being divided into three equal sized houses, the middle house in each
quadrant is compressed or expanded based on the whether the quadrant covers less than orgreater than 90 degrees. In other words, houses are smooth around the zodiac with the
difference in quadrant sizes being spread in a continuous sinusoidal manner from expanded to
compressed houses. Neo-Porphyry houses were invented and first published by Walter Pullen
in his astrology program Astrolog in 1994.
Rulership
In Hellenistic, Vedic, Medieval and Renaissance astrology each house is ruled by the planet
that rules the sign on its cusp. For example, if a person has the sign Aries on the cusp of their
7th house, then the planet Mars is said to "rule" their 7th house. This means that when aplanet is allotted a house, its nature comes to have some bearing on that specific topic in the
person's life, and that planet is said to be very important for events specifically pertaining to
that topic. The placement of this planet in the chart will have at least as much influence on the
chart as the planets within the house. In traditional Western & Hindu astrology, each sign is
ruled by one of the 7 visible planets (note that in astrology, the Sun and Moon are considered
planets, which literally means wanderers, i.e. wandering stars, as opposed to the fixed stars of
the constellations).
In addition, some modern astrologers who follow the X=Y=Z or Planet=Sign=House doctrine,
which was first taught by Alan Leo in the early part of the 20th century, believe that certain
houses are also "ruled" by, or have an affinity with, the planet which rules the corresponding
zodiacal sign. For instance, Mars is ruler of the 1st house because Aries is the first sign,
Mercury rules or has an affinity with the 3rd house because Gemini is the 3rd sign, etc.
This highly oversimplified concept is sometimes referred to as "natural rulership", as opposed
to the former which is sometimes called "accidental rulership." It is problematic when we
consider that Neptune is not a planet that rules any sign under the ancient rules, because it was
not known to the ancients.
The theory of "natural rulership" of a house is also challenged by a document from the
Hellenistic era called the Thema Mundi, a teaching chart the name of which translates to thechart of the world. This chart has Cancer in the ascendant, which suggests that the astrologers

from whom we inherit most of our astrological knowledge were proposing that the 1st house
is associated with the sign Cancer. Astrologer Eric Francis has described this as the "90-
degree shift issue."
Sun in 1st house
You are sunny, bold, courageous, active, and enterprising;always on the go. You can dominate your environment, and you are
noticed. However, you are obstinate at times and insist on having
your way, period.
You are important to yourself and will spend much time and energy on your own personal
affairs. It's not that you do not care about others, it is just that you have your work to do and it
is very important to you. You want to shine and be noticed for who and what you are. You
may want to lead or be in a position of dominance. You are confident, independent and
responsible. But watch for tendencies to be power-seeking or dictatorial. Be alert to false
pride and try to be more humble. Give proper credit to others for their contributions.
Moon in 2nd house
Moon is stabilized here, providing permanency andconsistency, lots of common sense, ability to make the best with
what you have, and appreciation of beauty. However, your finances
fluctuate.
You want and perhaps need to possess both money and possessions for your emotional
security. Your feelings and emotional well-being are connected with your material resources.
Changes and fluctuations will occur in your financial situation. Perhaps you alternate between
being thrifty and careless with your money. Concerning vocation: the emphasis here is on
self-worth. You need a work structure that allows public view or access, or working with
women or the public. Like a pretty piece of jewelry in a department store window, you should
be within the public's view while working. This may not entail working with the public
directly, however. You feel as if you need to be seen while working. Becoming one with your
work allows you to identify personally and emotionally with some life purpose and to project
this to the public at large. Because you so closely identify with your work, your ideas of how
successful you are as a person are directly tied in with the success you feel at your work
environment.

Mercury in 2nd house
Money and material things are important to you and youhave a way of deriving rewards from your experiences, ideas andrelationships. This can make you a resourceful and opportunistic
person. Otherwise your mind can be a bit fixed and one-sided.
You may use your wit, knowledge, and versatility to make money. At the very least you like
to talk about money it is on your mind. You may earn money with an ability to
communicate ideas to others through writing and speaking. You may have financial skill, but
your money may come and go, regardless.
Venus in 12th house
Venus is a bit wasted in this position. It can induce you toindulge in all sorts of sensual experiences, clandestine relationships,
possibly in drugs and intoxicants, and otherwise in indiscriminate
pursuits. There may be considerable artistic talent in this position if
the influence is not wasted for what comes natural: a carefree (and careless) life-style.
Your love of solitude and being your own best company may cause you to want to retreatfrom society. Pleasures are enjoyed in secret or behind the scenes. Clandestine relationships
are possible. Self-indulgence through drink, drugs or sex can bring on self-undoing. There is a
strong sense of compassion and a willingness to help and serve others. You may be a sucker
for a good sob story. Success by social standards is unimportant to you. You want an
understanding of the meaning of life. There is a tendency to keep relationships with the
opposite sex a secret. You seldom reveal your innermost feelings. This position usually gives
an interest in psychic or occult subjects.
Mars in 4th house
You enjoy a strong constitution and much vitality. You arededicated to your home. But if Mars is adverse, you behave
irritably and emotionally tense. Your quarrelsome and domineering
ways can spoil harmony at home.
There is an early striving for independence and a desire for security and a home of your own.
There may be tension or antagonism in your family environment. Perhaps you are too
demanding of those closest to you. You must overcome your hidden antagonisms and

quarrelsomeness. Your strong emotions must be toned down and controlled. Go out and do
some yard work to work off the excess energy.
Jupiter in 2nd house
You are likely to enjoy considerable prosperity throughoutyour life (particularly if Sun or Moon are also in 2nd House). You
are simply very fortunate in money matters. You also love the
comforts of life. However if adverse, you could experience difficult
times financially, either through excessive spending or unwise
investments.
You have the ability to be financially successful. Money seems to come to you and you haveprobably never missed a meal in your life. You have confidence and optimism in your talents
and abilities. Your visionary ideas and investments usually prosper due to your intuitive
appraisal of situations. You enjoy material possessions and may be termed "lucky". You
inspire trust in others and may benefit from receiving financial assistance from others in order
to develop your visionary and idealistic ideas. You must guard against self-indulgence and
over-extravagance. Curb your desire for rich, sweet food and desserts.
Saturn in 9th house
Depending on Saturn's aspects at birth and later, if positive, itcan structure your mind (eg, an excellent position for studying law,
philosophy and natural sciences). It can also direct you into
positions where you will enjoy much public esteem (eg, president
of a university). However, if adverse, it can severely restrict your
values and outlook on life and make you a tunnel-visioned or bigoted person. You may
encounter disfavor with the public or trouble with the law.
Your religious and philosophical beliefs are probably quite orthodox and traditional. You take
these beliefs very seriously. Your concentration upon deep subjects is probably quite good.
You may be intolerant and critical of others and their beliefs. You may question absolutes,
God and religion in general. There may be difficulties connected with foreign travel or foreign
cultures. Frustrations and delays can occur during long journeys. Take care not to deplete
your energy to the point of exhaustion through over-concentration.
Uranus in 2nd house

You are one of those people who can as easily make a fortuneas lose it. There is nothing predictable about it. In good times,
things you touch turn into gold. Other times, you are hounded byinconceivable problems.
You can earn money in original and inventive ways. Money and possessions come and go in
sudden, unexpected ways. There may be unusual and disruptive changes in your financial
condition. You may value money for the freedom it gives you to pursue your inner talents,
which may be rare and unique. You have the ability to get yourself out of financial
difficulties.
Neptune in 4th house
Depending on Neptune's aspects at birth and later, you areimpressionable and vulnerable. You may be able to capitalize on
these, perhaps as a poet. Or you are chronically unhappy, self-
sacrificing and without a sense of belonging.
You may experience a sense of inner uncertainty, insecurity and confusion. Unexplainable
fears and anxieties may cause you to withdraw from living. You idealize the homeenvironment and it may be, in reality, more in your imagination rather than in fact. A spiritual
tie with one or both parents is likely. A desire to live by the sea is not uncommon with this
position. You may have vague recollections regarding your true roots and this uncertainty
may cause difficulties. Remember, with Neptune, things are not as they appear and you need
to face reality in your home environment and with respect to your parents rather than what
may be in your imagination and sub-conscious.
Pluto in 2nd house
Financial prosperity is important in your priority of things.Depending on Pluto's aspects at birth and later, large financial gains
are as likely as the possibility of large losses; even bankruptcy.
You have financial ability with keen judgment, patience, energy,
and will. You may possess unusual talents. This placement may give an inordinate desire for
money and possessions. Watch the tendency to view loved ones as possessions. You may see
money coming and going in order to de-emphasize its importance. Detachment may benecessary. You must learn to spontaneously share all possessions with others. Integrity in

money matters is essential. Others may seek to control your resources and possessions or you
may be quite demanding and controlling with your own resources, monetary and otherwise.
Your Personal Rising Sign Or Ascendant
The ascendant, or rising sign, is the zodiacal sign and degree that was ascending on theeastern horizon at the specific time and location of an event. The ascendant is concerned with
how a person has learned to present him or herself to the world, especially in public and in
impersonal situations. In some circumstances, it can therefore function as a shield or mask to
guard a person's real nature - in other words the 'defense mechanism' every person has to cope
with unfamiliar or uncomfortable situations. The ascendant also has a strong bearing on a
person's physical appearance and overall health. The Ascendant marks the difference in
temperament, disposition, physical appearance and personality of individuals. It is the lens
through which everything else in the chart is focused or looked through, thus coloring the way
we look at everything.
People see us through our rising sign and we see the world through our rising sign. The
Ascendant is thus considered to be of great significance in all schools of astrology because it
in effect serves as the filter through which everything in a horoscope- including the Sun and
Moon- is expressed. Most astrologers believe that the Rising Sign exerts an influence equal to
or more powerful than the Sun and Moon.
hatice Your Rising Sign is: Virgo
People with Virgo rising tend to be practical, analytical, discriminating, fastidious, careful, exacting, attentive to details, methodical, quiet, unassuming, shy, critical, thoughtful, and somewhat self-centered. You
have an ingenious, active and alert mind. Gaining knowledge and putting it to good use are
important to you. You strive for perfection and can be quite the person to live with or to be
around because your standards for yourself and others are so high. At times others can never
be "good" enough to meet those high standards. Finding fault with what's wrong with things is
your forte. Sometimes, though, this can make relationships sour as you often turn your critical
eye on the one you love and the things they do. Pessimism and being too self-critical are two
faults you should try to improve upon. You may tend to worry too much, especially about the
small stuff, the little details. Too much worry can lead to health problems. You need to learnto digest every experience and assimilate it without bitterness, regret, spite or resentment. You
need to get rid of any negativity that stems from a feeling of inadequacy. You tend to look

younger than you really are, no matter what your age. You are very restless and nervous, so
you seldom have much weight on you. At times you can be very indecisive and unsure.
Spiritual lesson to learn: Service. Mercury rules Virgo so Mercury will be important in your
chart.
Midheaven Or 10th House
According to modern astrologers, the Midheaven or MediumCoeli is the zenith of a path in the sky traced by the point of
intersection between the ecliptic and the Meridian (a line of longitude)
of a certain terrestrial location. Although the actual point of intersection moves back towards
the horizon (to the south in the northern hemisphere) with the Earth's rotation, the Midheaven
is fixed as the highest point in the horizon any planet can reach at that location. The
Midheaven is one of the most important angles in the birth chart. It traditionally indicates
career, status, aim in life, aspirations, public reputation, and our life goal. Whilst the
Midheaven is traditionally thought of as indicating a goal in terms of career or working life, it
is not confined to this type of goal, and can indicate very personal or spiritual goals as well.
The individual will identify with and admire the qualities of the astrological sign on the
Midheaven. The sign on the cusp of the Midheaven quite often indicates what kind of career,
vocation, or reputation in life the native will pursue. It also reflects how an individual reacts
to stressful situations. The Midheaven quite often refers to a parent, quite often the mother, but sometimes the father. The other parent is sometimes represented by the angle at the
opposite end, the Imum Coeli, or IC.hatice Your Midheaven ( Medium Coeli ) is : Taurus
Taurus ruling the tenth house indicates the likelihood that you're an individual who wants topursue a career that is worthwhile. Though monetary gain may certainly be a factor in your choice of
direction in life, it is by no means the only one. You want whatever you go after and the things you
achieve to be solid and enduring. If money is not a primary necessity or goal, you may be just as happy to work long and hard on a volunteer basis in order to
achieve long-range goals you believe are worthy of your time and attention.
Possible career choices include art, music, banking, investment and finance, real estate, agriculture, architecture, landscaping and conservation. Flowers,
leather, jewelry, and wood (trees) are things that may also be related to what you are destined to do. Unless there are negative factors in your background,
the influence of Taurus suggests stable and sociable parental relationships, and a father who may be especially handsome or have artistic talent.
Your Descendent Or 7th House
In astrology, the descendant is the point directly opposite, or 180
degrees away from the ascendant. The descendant forms the cusp of

the seventh house of the horoscope and refers to partners or relationships. The descendant is
ruled by the seventh sign of the zodiac, Libra, and its ruler planet, Venus. The sign the
seventh house is in is, for astrologers, the sign of people you are the most attracted by, you
easily get along well with and you are most likely to start a love relationship with, if backed
up by other zodiacal aspects. It can also be thought of as sort of your alter ego, as the you that
you show only to your most intimate partner. The interesting fact revealed by the horoscope isthat this natural counterbalance works on the principle of opposites we attract from others the
opposite of what we show others. For example if you normally behave in an aggressive or
assertive manner, then you are likely to attract into your circle of intimate friends, people who
offer you diplomacy and cooperation. However it is important to realise that the signs on your
relationship axis may not correspond to your sun sign.hatice Your Descendent ( Or 7th House ) is: Pisces
The Pisces influence on this house shows the difficulty that can be experienced in partnership
and marital relations. Relating with others is not easy for you. It's necessary for you to find a sympathetic
mate who will soothe your frayed nerves and commiserate with you about your problems. When you do, you are willing to make sacrifices to benefit the
union. Often, the Pisces influence on the house of relationships inclines toward a partnership with a person having opposite traits. Rather than a practical,
common sense person like yourself, you may choose someone very intuitive and visionary. Thus, in any partnership arrangement, you are the one to provide
the organizing influence. Your partner helps you expand your horizons to new fields. Sometimes, this sign suggests the single life-style. You may have an
innate fear of relationships before the fact; a fearing of letdown, and that you could never find anyone to live up to your ideal. You desire those who are very
romantic because you relish being placed on a 'pedestal' and adored totally by someone who really means the nice things they say to and about you. Look
out for individuals whose goals seem not to include much or anything of a tangible, material or monetary nature. Love alone will not pay the bills! Avoid the
type who seem to have little in their past to prove dependability, reliability or very much responsibility. Be doubly certain they are not addicted to drugs,
alcohol or other potentially-harmful substances or habits.
Imum Coeli Or 4th House
In astrology, the Imum Coeli (Latin for "bottom of the sky"), IC, isthe point in space where the ecliptic crosses the meridian in the north,
exactly opposite the Midheaven. It marks the fourth house cusp in
most house systems (this is reversed in the southern hemisphere). The Imum Coeli is said to
refer to our roots and also to the least conscious part of ourselves. It symbolizes foundations,
beginnings in life, what may have been experienced through parental inheritance and
homeland influences, need for security and relationships with the home and family life. It also
may describe the circumstances that we will encounter at the end of our lives. Because this
house was the most distant point possible from the visible part of the horoscope, Hellenistic
astrologers considered the IC to be the home of the underworld, or Hades. In many cases the
IC refers to a parent traditionally, the father. Modern astrologers may use the IC as a
significator for the mother, or for both parents. There is no consensus in modern usage for
which parent is best represented by the IC. The point is moot for Hellenistic astrologers who
considered the fourth house the house of the father, but did not use the Imum Coeli as the
cusp of the fourth house.
For example, if the Moon falls near the I.C. in someone's chart, they seek emotionalconnections through their family relat
