Performing Stripping Voltammetry with a VersaStat and VersaStudio Software

Stripping Voltammetry with a Model 303A mercury electrode can be performed using a series of actions in VersaStudio. Below is a description of each step. The 303A should be set to HDME mode using the mode switch on the front of the 303A unit. This is the sequence of steps needed to perform the stripping SWV voltammetry experiment.

Princeton Applied Research, 801 S. Illinois Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

  • Step 1 Use the Auxiliary Interface action to turn on the Purge function of the 303A. Step 2 Use the Time Delay action to set a time to allow the system to purge.

  • Step 3 Use the Auxiliary Interface action to disable the purge function of the 303A and to Enable the Dispense function, which dispenses the drop, and the Stir function.

Step 4 Perform a Deposition with the Cell ON and the Stirrer ON (-1V in this example). Note that the cell is set to remain on after this step. You need the potential on the Hg drop to remain constant so the components do not oxidize back into the electrolyte.

  • Step 5 Use the Auxiliary Interface to disable the stir function of the 303A. The cell should remain on during this step due to the setting in Step 4. Step 6 Use the Equilibration action to set a period of time to allow the solution to settle after stirring (5s in this example). Note that the cell is on here as well and should be set to the value in the previous steps (in this example 1V). It should also be set to Leave Cell ON.

  • Step 7 Set the type of scan you want (SWV in this example) and the appropriate parameters for the action.
