Chapter 1

Louisiana purchase Have you ever heard of the Louisiana purchase? In

1803 the Louisiana territory was owned by Napoleon

the ruler of France. A man named Thomas Jefferson

bought a 15 million dollar piece of land.

With the new land purchased and unexplored Thomas

Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark to explore the new

land. Their goal is to record the resources, tribes and

animals. They met a French fur trader and then they

asked him to be their translator, his wife Sacagawea

helped Lewis and Clark across the Rockies. After

Lewis and Clark got back from their expedition

everybody started moving west .

In 1849 everyone in san francisco streets were empty

almost everyone was in the mines for gold. A woman

named jennie Wimmer could tell the difference between

real gold and fool's gold .

Chapter 2

A miner's life A miners diet usually consists of beans biscuits and

beef jerky. plus they were forced to go to the bathroom

in the lakes which caused a lot of deaths. If you think

that was hard, they were limited to one set of cloths .

People started to gamble the little gold they had . So

when people did not pay up things got ugly.

How the gold rush

impacted the western

expansion

The gold rush impacted the westward expansion by

making a lot of people move to cali to mine for gold.

most of the people actually did not find any gold

most of it was fool's gold there was a woman named

Jennie Kimmer who could tell the difference between

fools gold and real gold.
