Street Art CookbookA Do-It-Yourself bible on street art
by Benke Carlsson & Hop Louie
After hundreds of books containing images of
street art, here comes the very first to reveal
how it’s done. In 140 pages, 250 pictures and
25 interviews, a dozen techniques are ex-
plained. This is the first handbook of tips and
tricks for creating street art pieces.
Today, street art is counted among the world’s greatest artis-tic movements. Simultaneously, it questions who really has the right to participate in public space. Never since the late 60s has an artistic movement challenged the establishment view in this way. Now, Dokument Press presents the very first book to explain how street art is actually made.Street Art Cookbook is a guide to the materials and tech-niques used in the most creative and progressive artistic movement of today. In pictures and interviews with some of the world’s most famous street artists, techniques like spray stencils, stickers, laser graffiti and guerrilla gardening are explained. The Swedish street artist Hop Louie acts as your guide through the book, and explores some of the most complicated techniques. Street Art Cookbook is a source of inspiration to delve into for all those who are interested in DIY.Among the artists interviewed are Mark Jenkins, Swoon, Gould, Caper, C215, Victor Marx, Ron English and Knitta Please.
“Public space is a human right. If advertising is okay, anti-advertising has to be okay too.”
Ron English, USA
“Banksy has carried out a revolution since he tangibly increases a building’s value by painting on it.”
C215, France
“A technique is only a way to convey something. The idea has to come before the technique. So don’t rely on cookbooks. Experiment.”
Alexandre Órion, Brazil
