Why streamline government now?

We have a state government designed in the 1950’s

Since then, massive changes in the economy

Massive changes in how we live, work and communicate

What this initiative is…

• We are asking the people of Michigan what they think the role of state government should be

• We will be as transparent as possible, with full public participation

• We will include the broadest possible cross-section of citizens, business, labor and academic leaders

• We will identify the core functions of 21st century state government and make sure all state employees are focused on them

• We will remain committed to job creation, education, and protecting Michigan citizens

• Tonight we are asking you whether those functions should be included in state government
