1 Oil and Gas in 2016 s of July 2016, there were 172,000 people in the United States directly employed in the oil and gas industry. Since the drop in oil price in 2014, more than 290,000 oil and gas

jobs have been lost worldwide. That’s more than is employed in the US, Canada and the UK – combined.

At what point should oil and gas companies stop spending on environment, health and safety? It’s not a question you’d ever imagine even considering, but market pricing and demand volatility are one of the biggest challenges facing the sector. According to LNS Research in a 2016 Asset Performance Management (APM) study1, 58% of North American companies rank market pricing as the most important trend impacting their industry. According to LNS Research, oil and gas “too frequently lags [in] implementing effective EHS software to support their health, safety, and environmental programs”2. Modules

Accident and Incident Reporting Report any type of incident, detailing the time, location and parties involved. Full description can be recorded and supporting information such as witness statements and photographs can be saved within the form, all with appropriate security access.

Damage Reporting Record damage to vehicles, equipment and machinery. Supporting documentation and cost information is stored with the electronic form and can be reported on.

Safe Systems of Work Detail the specific steps to ensure safe systems of work and include images and photos to aid toolbox talks.

Hazard Observations Report an observation or intervention. With the ability to assign follow-up actions, the hazard or unsafe behavior can be evaluated and the information included in the risk assessment process.

Risk Assessment Identify hazards and record risk with the risk assessment form. Evaluate the risk using a likelihood/severity matrix and identify control measures to mitigate.

Permit to Work Issue permit to work forms to employees and contractors, ensuring that the safety requirements are met and detail the type of work to be carried out. Full integration with digital signature devices to record the issue, receipt and clearance of permits.

Environmental Incidents Capture details of environmental incidents, detailing the specific time, location and parties involved. Full description of the event can be recorded and supporting information can be saved within the electronic form.

Energy Consumption Form Individual projects, sites, depots, offices can input energy use such as oil, diesel, gas and electricity for environmental performance measures.

As with most software packages these days, HSEQ Innovate comes with two types of monetary cost: implementation and licensing. We’ve developed a specific pricing structure that works well for large organisations with operations across multiple sites, as we want ours to be a mutually beneficial partnership with maximized return on investment for you.

Licensing Many vendors charge licensing per user, which can drive up costs for companies with thousands of employees. It can also pressure businesses into limiting the number of workers who have access to the system, which – we believe – is a backwards step for EHS. Our licensing is priced per annum and per region (North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Australasia). The standard price also includes several days of call off time and support, with a higher fixed price available for those requiring unlimited support.

6 Getting started il and gas is continuously named as one of the most dangerous industries for workers based on fatality rate, and is not short of tragedies in the public eye; Deepwater

Horizon, Exxon Valdez oil spill, Texas City Refinery, Piper Alpha, all among incidents the world remembers. However, the work of EHS professionals within the sector is not to be undermined. Verdantix reports that EHS management spend amounted to around $325M in 2016, set to rise to $373M in 2017 in the oil and gas sector alone; more than any other industry on the list. It’s a very high risk line of work that also happens to be heavily relied upon: it supplies 33% of all energy5, making oil the world’s primary fuel.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to conclude that sustainability is key.

At risk of telling you what you already know, every industry presents different needs in EHS management. For high EHS risk companies, integration with other systems is the most important factor (71%) according to market analysts NAEM6. NAEM also reports that, in terms of the EHS marketplace as a whole, cost of purchase is the biggest driver in deploying software followed by flexibility of configuration.
