A WORD FROM OUR CHAIR...Martin Luther King Jnr once said:

“We may have all come on different ships but we’re in the same boat now.”

Over the last few years we have brought together two wonderful school communities and effectively created a new ‘boat’. It is now time to set a course, fuel the engines and to cast off.

When preparing this document, the Board wanted to set the scene by describing our story so far; the context of what we do and why we do it, and clearly set out our values and core beliefs.

We have created a new Vision Statement for our combined College from which all of our future decisions will be based. Our new Vision is strong and describes how we want Faith Lutheran College to be known. It is a College where we want:

“To inspire and equip every student to discover, develop and use their gifts, embrace life’s challenges and follow Christ.”

To continue to build a strong College we identified the pillars on which our College will develop and grow into the future. Behind each of these six pillars we have stated the goals we want to achieve over the next three years to ensure we can deliver on the Vision. The goals we have set are clearly measurable and will have extensive action plans developed behind them, with the input of our relevant stakeholders.

We know that God has great plans for Faith Lutheran College, we trust in His grace, wisdom and guidance and we acknowledge His work in preparing this document.

OUR STORY For over one and a half centuries, pioneer Lutheran faith has been a feature of the Barossa landscape. Amongst church spires and vineyards, the passion for quality education has been instilled in the hearts and minds of the generations before us. In 1845, the first Barossa Lutheran School opened in Tanunda. ‘Langmeil School’ as Tanunda Lutheran School was then known, was the first step in our unending pursuit of an education that brings something extra to the ordinary.

In 1985, as the Barossa celebrated 140 years of Lutheran education, courage and faith guided the opening of ‘Faith Lutheran Secondary School’. Passionate educators and a supportive community enabled the school to thrive and quickly grow from the inaugural class of 26 students, to now over 600.

Over time, the landscape has changed and education has evolved. In 2018, Tanunda Lutheran School and Faith Lutheran College amalgamated to become the first ELC to Year 12 College in the region. Today, Faith Lutheran College welcomes students as three-year olds and continues to nurture, care and develop each individual as they journey through to Year 12 and the world beyond.

Acknowledging the collective wisdom of those who went before us and living out the values laid down in earlier times is part of what has shaped our ELC – 12 College into what it is today.

Across two campuses, we view education from age three to Year 12 as a wonderful journey deserving of a unique approach where students come first.
