Together, we’ll make sure you love your time at Swinburne Sarawak.

Our growing population have set a really big challenge in the form of our new vision .Together we will make sure you love

your time in Swinburne Sarawak. The Student council believes that a good balance between extracurricular & academics will help us to easily adjust to the Swinburne Sarawak style; because of this, SSSC 2013 wants to help

support student activities in all areas of campus life. We want to help create an unforgettable experience for students

irrespective of their campus lifestyle.

It’s not going to be easy but we are condent that we can achieve our objectives together if all the students and member clubs of SSSC work

together; one of the ways we plan to achieve this is through Swinburne Student Leadership & Community Service Initiative as you will read later on

from our theme No. 7, it will enable every student to contribute to the change they want to see especially during our events and projects and they

will be able to develop their people skills while at the same time having the opportunity to earn points towards to a certicate that will enhance

their resume and a thank you letter from the student operations department.

This plan showcases a brief overview of our intents but not exhaustive; we will be willing to always share with anything with you; please do pay us a visit at C101 just above the canteen. Again, we are excited about the fact

the University is very willing to work with us as they get your views on how to make campus life awesome for all of us.

You have nished all your assignments, worked through the long stress of exams and course units, phew! At last it’s done and over with ;the University does not want employability to be an issue for you. This year through a special working relationship that the student council have with the careers unit,

your concerns were made known to them and they have sent invitation to more than 40 multinational companies to join in the career fair. We are hoping that the actions we take in 2013 will translate into a base and continuous relationship future generations of Swinburne Sarawak Students will

benet from even if they we do not get the desired result this year,we believe that we have started and we won’t give up on your concerns. The frank & honest conversation we have with students concerning their future career prospects will be translated into feedback that will be useful to the manage-

ment for improving the services that are made available to you, so talk to us !

Students expressed the interest that they wanted to see more multinational corpora-tions attending our annual career fair.

The Student Ambassador Programme was started by Student Services Department with the help of some very driven students who care about their fellow students. The Ambassadors for 2013 will given a through training regime led by sta from the student Services Department who have great experi-

ence in counselling. They will be covering all of listening and helping skills, so as to know how to serve students better.

Each Ambassador shall be assigned one specic student at a time, and they shall see them once a week, for a maximum of one hour. The types of students who the Ambassador would see are those who are deemed to be low risk, however if a student seems to need more help, the Ambassador will

refer them to a counsellor.

Our Second theme is closely related to the rst one, it’s about providing help and sup-port and give advice so that students will get the best out of their time in Swinburne Sarawak. To make sure that we have more people helping out, the student council is partnering with the Student Services Depart-ment through Swinburne Students Ambas-sadors.

TheComboEffort

Working together for change on the issues that aect students.

2 3

We believe that change is possible when we work together on issues that matter to all members of the university community. Last year one of our member club (ICT Club) built a system for the library discussion room because they felt that students should have the privilege of doing this from their comfort of their room or computer. This year, the student council want to help make meaningful improvement to student life through active collabora-tion of everyone. We will help students help each other to inuence the world around them. This means having an accessible and eective system that allows students to make collective decisions and strategic interventions. We’ve got a responsibility to make sure that everyone can join us this year by actively supporting our cause so that we make a dierence. We will celebrate every impact for a positive cause we make on campus. By celebrating our impact we hope to inspire more students to use the student council and it’s member clubs to create change. So whether it be a social cause on campus,

or a cause that relates directly to our academics SSSC needs all of us to stand together

We got our third theme aer extensively surveying into your interests in making the university an awesome place for all us. In 2013, no idea will be turned down as we will help you bring it to reality.

Theme 3:

1 Your ideas are importantto us.

Providing a launch pad for your ideas.

Our promise is ot stand by you, at all times.

Yourchillin' crib.

Providing a place forstudent not forstudies, but strictly for fun.

Supporting students nd thatway of relieving stress.

Pushing the fun messageright from the beginningof the semester.

2 3

The Student Council is working closely with the facilities department so that we can have an activities center, this will be in L001, and hopefully in 2013 we will see this materialising. A place where students can chill before class, hold there club meetings ,hang out with friends, watch TV and most impor-

tantly meet other friends .We will also be having a website, our website will help students to participate in new activities, get advice and learn new skills. Our h theme is all about making sure that our physical and virtual spaces are exciting, fun, youthful, engaging. It’s about making sure that they repre-

sent our personality and core values. We want everything we own to be fundamental to student sense to belonging in Swinburne Sarawak.

In 2010, SSSC tried to get G904 for jamming, G916 for storage and the west wing of the 9th oor for dancing –but all these were located in the same building where lectures were held. In 2011, the management experi-mented by moving a few of these activities to 001. But in 2013, we are renovating and taking over the building, to make it all yours!

Theme 4:What will success look like?

1

Students wil say having a place to relieve stress made a dierence in their day-to-day university life.

Creating a lively place where students meet others.

fun!HELP ME

haveMaking student life more “crazily” excitingthan ever before.

2 3

We will restructure the clubs with ‘fun’ as the framework. We have Sporting and Recreational Clubs. Last year we had Golden Key International Honour Society, Entrepreneurship, Consumer Club and a host of many others that joined in as our member clubs. This year we are positive that there will be

more; so whatever your interest is, know that there is always a place to t in. Clubs members are gaining new skills, trying new things out, and meeting new people. We want to increase the number of students who benet from life in an activity group. We’ll do this by listening to students who aren’t mem-

bers of a club or society yet, understanding why some groups nd participation dicult or unappealing. We’ll make changes based on this feedback; perhaps broadening the appeal of the Club Recruitment Drive; where students have a chance to meet with the clubs and have a preview of what it’s all

about before deciding to join. We are also going to raise the prole of our clubs and societies by promoting them and their activities in our website, Face-book page and others making it truly easy to benet from membership of our activity groups.

You want us to be fun. So, the next big deal for 2013 is -fun. Fun means dierent things to dierent students, but fun at the Student Council means clubs and Participation, outing meeting friends, sport and doing new things. It means meeting friends for life. And it means being part of something special

Theme 5:What will success look like?

1

A wider smile accross every students face.At the end of 2013, students will say this smile has made a dierence in them by increasing their academic performance.

‘FUN’ will be the framework for all clubs.

Students will have a balanced university life.

Resulting with a happier student lifestyle.

Raise the

MONEY!

Raising money to support student activi-ties and paving the road to independency.

2 3

This Year we want to take a further step by looking for ways of generation revenue so that the student council becomes more independent. We will be having Tee-shirts, Varsity Jacket, hoodie and leather Jacket for sale.

Every single amount of the money we raise is going to be spent on making sure that students love their time at Swinburne Sarawak. This means that we’ve got a responsibility to make sure that they know that the Student Council is theirs to shape. We’re going to make it easier for students to see where

their money goes and how much of a dierence their money makes to all our members.

The money we use in funding events comes from the amount that you pay alongside your tuition fee every semester. For quite a number of years now, this amount has not been enough to take care of the needs of our growing population as money have always been a barrier to activities.

Theme 6:What will success look like?

1

Students will understand how the SSSC is funded and where the money goes.

Students will be proud of SSSC and the impact that we have on them.

It will be easy to fund for the better-making of studentlifestyle.

We will not depend on the money students pay alongside the tuition fees.

We’ll help increase your love for the university.

Sharingour

passion.

Personal Development through participation in all university events.

2 3

We want to make sure that every member of the University Community is entitled to the same benet of personal development and employability that SSSC members will be getting. The Student Council is encouraging everyone to build with us by volunteering during our events or projects. Through our newly initiated Swinburne Student Leadership and Community Service, students will be able to earn points for each involvement and a total of 85% will

entitle the student to receive a thank you letter from the student Operations Department an appreciation certicate that will be handed over to the student by the Pro Vice Chancellor during our appreciation dinner.

Student Council is giving everyone on campus the opportunity to build leadership skills and all the essential values that will add colours to their resume as they move on to other important matters aer their time here in Swinburne Sarawak. We believe that the change that you have always wanted to see can be brought about through a collabo-rative eort and as we do this, there are essential skills to pick up along th way.We want to share this with you.

Theme 7:What will success look like?

1

University community. We looking to a time where you can at anytime during your revision hour walk within the perimeter of the University to get some snack or even hot drinks. We have started and even though we do not completely achieve this goal in 2013 ,one thing we can assure you of is that we are to set the frame work by continuely to make sure that your is not just “clearly’ heard but sets the frame work for the implementation of theme no.8 ear-
