Transcript of Stradbroke Shield 2014 Year in Review
As we welcome a brand new team to the SS Hall of Fame, the plight of poor old Wolfpak highlights just how difficult it is to win Shield. The Pak have proven to be one of the great-est teams across the seven year existence of the Shield by participating in five of the seven grand finals, however they have only managed to claim the Shield just the one time. Whilst Coach Bugs now has a permanent Dustin Martin voodoo doll, the planets really do need to align if your team is to salute on that one day in August.
Of course, it would be of no surprise if you are totally unaware of the FOFs triumph, as most eyes would have been on the Gumby final and the culmination of six months of planning from yours truly. The Destroyers performance has elevated the standing of the Gumby winner to its rightful place amongst the lower echelons of Division 4 footy. It is now no longer shameful to classify yourself as the king of the Gumbys. Your welcome.
The D-Man is now booked in for some well earned R & R aboard the good ship ‘Rhapsody of the Seas’ and the official Shield presentation invitation will be sent out upon my return. In the meantime, you may now go and mow your lawn as I’m sure it needs some attention.
Merry Christmas.

Dr Dunwich Demitriou CEO, Stradbroke Shield
Results
FOF become the seventh team to win the Shield in seven years, denying Wolfpak the chance of becoming the first multiple winner. Destroyers proved once and for all they are the biggest Gumbys going around.
SHIELD
Funny Old Fellow 2,228 def Wolfpak 2,199
A self-proclaimed Steven Bradbury performance by FOF as they merely had to sit back and watch the late changes roll in. A tough end for Wolfpak who were the best performed team in the finals, but that will mean little to them as they swallow another grand final defeat.
GUMBY
D-Man Destroyers 2,380 def POLLY'S SAINTS 2,074
A Destroyer victory was never in doubt as the Saints struggled to know who they were even playing.

SHIELD CHAMPIONS: Funny Old Fellow
DAC CHAMBERS MEDAL: Robert, Funny Old Fellow. Made his second straight grand final, com-ing from outside the top 4 both times. Rode his luck all the way to the flag, but his matching winning move against the Pies in the Elimination Final was the coaching move of the year.
MAL MICHAEL ‘ROOKIE’ TEAM OF THE YEAR: Destroyers. Knocked off the premiers in round one, then tanked to get a good spot for a crack at the Gumbies, which they duly won. Was also the highest scoring team on grand final day.
MUST HAVE PLAYER SELECTION: Gary Ablett – despite a premature end to his season, still com-fortably managed the season’s highest average.
NEVER AGAIN AWARD: Leigh Montagna—the one time Supercoach gun has lots his appeal.
Editor Note—Last year’s winner was Aaron Sandilands who managed to finish in the top 10 overall scores for the year. Once again, use this suggestion for any future planning at your own risk.
MATCH OF THE YEAR: Baggers 2343 defeated Mudcrabs 2339 (round 17). Whilst the Grand Final was close, this game produced a much higher quality performance in a match that had big implica-tions on the finals make up.
HIGHEST ROUND SCORE: 2,522 Mudcrabs (round 13)
LOWEST ROUND SCORE: 735, Tigerland (round 6)
HIGHEST COMBINED TOTAL: 4878, Wolfpak 2507 d Tomsies 2371 (round 13)*
PORT ADELAIDE ‘MOST IMPROVED’ AWARD: Franga’s Fools. Highest place finish (eq 12th) for a side used to fighting off Tigerland for the wooden spoon. Another improvement in 2015 could see them challenge for a finals spot.
WARWICK CAPPER (39) AWARD FOR WORST TEAM: Tiger Land. Dunwich is considering an-nouncing this award prior to round 1 each year.
HAROLD HOLT ‘GONE MISSING’ AWARD: The Hangovers. Last year’s Minor Premiers were all set for another big year, but after an initial chirp on the Supercoach sledge box they vanished. Had some good form in the later part of the year, but all too late.
VIAGRA ’BIT STIFF’ AWARD: Wolfpak. Clearly the best team at finals time, but their luck well and truly deserted them on grand final weekend with 3 late withdrawals and a falcon-related concussion putting an end to their premiership hopes.
