    IntroductionThe world today is experiencing the effect of climate change as a result of

    extensive burning of fossil fuels, plastics and even rice hulls dumped at the back ofmany rice mills across the country, producing wicked weather disturbances like

    typhoons. Flashfloods are often associated with severe rainfall whose effect may be

    aggravated by the rapidly increasing number of non-biodegradable wastes thrown

    anywhere such as cellophanes, plastic bags and plastic bottles.

    Recycling plastic bottles into something useful might help solve this

    environmental concern. Production of particle board from plastic bottles in

    combination with rice hull ash (RHA) can aid in providing solution to environmental

    hazards and at the same time provide the increasing demand of materials needed

    in making furniture and other handicrafts.

    Previous studies have reported that there are already particle boards

    made from rice hull ashes (RHA) and plastic bottles but there are still no particle

    boards made from the combination of both. To make this possible, the plastic

    bottles will be melted together with the RHA to produce quality particle boards.

    Objectives

    To determine if plastic bottles and rice hull ash

    (RHA) are feasible in the production of quality

    particle board.

    To determine the quality of particle board from

    plastic bottles and rice hull ashes compared to

    commercial particle board in terms of bending

    strength, water absorption and melting point

    Statement of the ProblemGenerally, this study aims to answer the question: is it feasible to

    produce particle board from rice hull ash (RHA) and plastic bottles?

    Specifically, it will seek to answer the following questions:

    1. What is the quality of particle board from rice hull ash and plastic bottles

    in terms of:

    1.1 breaking strength;

    1.2 water absorption;

    1.3 melting point?

    2. Is there a significant difference between particle board from rice hull ash

    (RHA) and plastic bottles and commercial particle board in terms of:

    2.1 breaking strength;

    2.2 water absorption;

    2.3 melting point?

    Related Literature

    In the study conducted by J. Torkaman

    (2010), he found out that rice hulls is

    feasible in the production of particle boardwith sodium silicate as its bonding agent.

    ExpectedOutcome

    Plastic bottles and rice hull ash (RHA) arefeasible in the production of quality particle

    board.

    Particle board made from plastic bottles

    and rice hull ash (RHA) is better than

    commercial particle board in terms of

    breaking strength, water absorption and

    melting point.
