    RULES AND GUIDELINES

    1.0 INTRODUCTION

    1.1 Storytelling is an effective teaching and learning activity to help

    improve the standard of English among pupils.

    1.2 The Storytelling Activity / Competition will be carried out at schooldistrict / division state and national levels.

    2.0 OBJECTIVES

    2.1 To enhance pupils! confidence in using English.

    2.2 To give pupils the opportunity to use English in an interesting authentic

    and creative manner.

    2." To enhance and improve listening and spea#ing s#ills.

    2.$ To instill pupils! interest in reading and writing in English.

    3.0 RULES AND REGULATIONS

    ".1. The competition is open to all government%aided schools. &nly ONEcontestant will represent his / her state at the national level.

    ".2 The competition is divided into two sections'

    "." *or Section 1 contestants are to observe the following rules'

    ".".1 Stories presented can be authentic adapted or originally written.

    ".".2 Stories presented must not touch on sensitive issues such asrace religion stereotyping politics etc.

    "."." Stories must be thematically educational.

    ".".$ Contestants are ! allowed to use the stand microphoneprovided to ensure minimal movement.

    ".".+ (rops bac#drops and sound effects are not allowed. Any use ofthese will allow for dis,ualification by the -udges.

    ".". Time allocated to present the story is ' t (minutes. The bellwill be rung at the +th minute. ar#s will be deducted thereafter.

    ".$ *or Section 2 contestants are to observe the following rules'

    ".$.1 Each contestant pic#s an envelope containing a card.

    ".$.2 After "0 seconds contestants tell their $t%#based on a word

    noun/ad-ectiveorpicture!eob-ect on the chosen card.

    ".$." Stories told in Section 2 should not be a repetition orreproduction of any story presented in Section 1. Contestantswill be dis,ualified if they do so.

    ".$.$ Any inclusion of singing should enhance and not dominate thepresentation.

    ".$.+ Time allocated to present the impromptu story is 2 t 3minutes.The bell will be rung at the "rdminute. ar#s will be deducted

    thereafter.

    ".+.1 A ma3imum of 10 mar#s will be deducted if a contestant'

    ".+.1.1 touches on sensitive issues such as race religionpolitics etc. 4 2 mar#s

    ".+.1." presents a story above the stipulated time 4 2 mar#sfor every minute

    ". A contestant will be dis,ualified if'

    "..1 he / she reads or refers to notes / reading materials.

    "..2 he / she is prompted by another person.

    ".." he / she repeats any story presented in Section 1 during theimpromptu session.

    '.0 ADJUDICATION

    $.1 A panel of at least " or + -udges will be appointed for all the rounds atall levels. The competition at the national level will be -udged by apanel of + -udges appointed by the 6ivision of Co%curriculum and Artsinistry of Education.

    $." The contestant with the ma-ority of votes will be declared the winner.

    +.2 Certificates of participation will be awarded to all participating teams.

    The winners from the previous year may participate in the current year but

    the te3t and presentation must not be an e3act replica.

    This concept paper is valid until further notification or revision from the

    inistry of Education and can be used at all levels for competitions organi5edby the inistry.
