Dear Neighbors and Friends,

Let me first start by saying a hearty thank you to those who

came out and made our annual meeting a success. It is re-

freshing to see such support for our community. You may

not have heard but there is a new sheriff in town: his name

is Wayne Ireson and he speaks softly but carries a big stick.

Just kidding! I did take over from the very gracious Donna

Crossman, who unselfishly led us for three years. A hearty

“THANK YOU, DONNA”, and I sincerely hope that I will

be able to fill those very big shoes!

The new Board has already had its first quarterly meeting

and things went rather well considering that we were mostly

rookies. There are some new events coming this fall but I

will let my Chairpersons comment on those.

I would like to thank all of the Board for their support as we

move forward in the new year.

I am excited that the next big event is our picnic block party get-together on Saturday, Septem-

ber 28th from 5:00-7:00pm. I ask any and all to attend for a really good time of socializing,

storytelling and some really good food.

If you have any comments about your neighborhood, I will be glad to hear all the praise reports.

Any negative reports, call 1-800-I don’t like you. Seriously, I will also take those, too.

I pray for our country and its leaders every day and hope you will do the same.

Be safe, enjoy the rest of the summer and “Hail to the Redskins”!!

WELCOME to our New Neighbors …..

Our smiley new neighbor, Phyllis Grove, goes by the name "Penny”. She arrived in early June from sunny Milton,

FL, to be closer to her son and his family who live in Front Royal. Josh and his wife, Julie, have two children:

Reagan 13 years and Gavin 4 1/2 years old who have been keeping grandmother busy since she arrived in Stras-

burg.

Penny was born in Pensacola, FL, and met her husband, John, at the Flight Training School located

there as well. Because of John's work with helicopters in the Navy, they became world travelers.

Penny bought and sold antiques. At one point she was a buyer for a store located in Florida. Her

continued interests are antiques and traveling. You may see her out and about with her cute little

dogs, “Barney” (Doxie) and “Ms. Lilly“ (Chiweenie). Welcome Penny at 153 Daniel Court.

There is a new resident at 141 Daniel Court as well. Kristen Spence from Salem, VA, has be-

gun a career as the Warren County Middle School Counselor. Kristen started her under-

graduate work to be a veterinarian (Virginia Tech University) but later switched to counsel-

ing. She is definitely a "Hokie". Radford University is where she completed her masters de-

gree.

A very small companion resides with Kristen. During her time of study to be a vet, she became interested in

Hedge Hogs. Yes, the little ball of an animal named "Abigail" weighs less than a pound and likes to play in the

nocturnal hours of the day. She gets to stay in the other room so Kristen can sleep. Our new neighbor also likes

outdoor activities and hiking . Welcome Kristen!

Would you like to receive your Newsletter via e-mail again???

The Board has approved sending the quarterly Newsletter to you by e-mail, if you wish,

with one possible exception each year. If the Notice of the Annual Meeting is included

in March’s Newsletter, that Newsletter would have to be either hand delivered or mailed

to the owners and residents of Stony Pointe, per our by-laws.

Please send your request to me by e-mail in order to receive future copies in color via e-mail. Looking

forward to hearing from you.

Water Tower Watch………….

Please continue to read the newspapers for information regarding storage of water for

Strasburg. We were able to get the Town to question the site of a new water tower

near Stony Pointe; however, we must continue to monitor the meetings of our Town

Council.

Per Council member, Jocelyn Vena, the Town administration received proposals from two contractors

that have indicated ways of storing water other than a water tower. It is being reviewed by the staff, and

they have indicated they should have a presentation to the Town Council by the end of the month.

From the Architectural Control Committee . . . . . .

Just a quick note of thanks to all of you in Stony Pointe for doing such a great job of keeping up

your properties. We have been blessed with a wet, and relatively mild summer. As a result, the

grass has hardly had a chance to brown out at all, and the bushes, shrubs and flowers are thriv-

ing. Everyone is doing a great job of keeping the architectural crispness of our homes nearly

perfect!

Also, a big thanks for all the members of the ACC who are there when you need them to guide,

assist and approve changes and additions to our beautiful homes.

There appears to be only one down side in that some have not followed the

community rules for satellite placement and screening. To help out, we

have included an insert to this newsletter: A guide for installation of a sat-

ellite dish. Please keep this handy. The ACC will be contacting those

whose satellite dishes need “adjusting” in the upcoming weeks. Please re-

spect your neighbors and follow the established procedures for satellite dish

installations.

Single Gals In The Afternoon

We started as a small widows group, “The Merry

Widows”, and as that entity, we have traveled on

the Royal Caribbean, Holland America, etc. We

also play cards and go out for lunches and dinners!

Now, in keeping with this trend, we welcome all singles of all types,

even gals whose husbands would rather play golf or just stay at home!

Faye Kite, Joan Farrell and Gloria Kranich are currently on a trip to

Myrtle Beach, SC. There is always something to do or somewhere to

go!!

Call us if you are interested in joining our activities.

Information for Installation of a Satellite Antenna Dish

“As a standard of practice” the Association has a guideline of:

1. Must get advance approval for location from the Architectural Control Committee (ACC).

2. CAN NOT be placed on any roof area or roof support area.

3. NOT PLACED in the front area of the dwelling if possible.

4. Prefer that dish be installed next to the dwelling. When installed next to the dwelling, the maximum height, including the post, is 48 inches.

5. When required to be installed away from the dwelling, the maximum height, including the post, is 36 inches.

6. Minimum height of the dish from the grade (ground) is 12 inches.

7. Installation is to be WELL SCREENED from the view of the surrounding neighbors as much as possible. Evergreen bushes or deciduous bushes that hold their leaves throughout most of the winter are the preferred choices for screening.

NOTE for Home Owners and Tenant/Occupants

Be aware that dish providers/installers will install the antenna where it is the easiest & fastest for them without the understanding that you must get the approval of the ACC. We have had several cases where we could not approve the installation location and then the installer charged the home owner or tenant another fee to return to correct the problem.

Recreation Committee……….. We have been a very busy and social neighborhood this summer. To recap our summer events:

JULY - - Goodies and Fireworks – July 4th - The town’s fireworks were awesome from our patio, and lots of our new and old neighbors enjoyed the evening under the stars with good food and talk.

AUGUST - - Ice Cream Social - August 8th – Again, Peggy and Peter opened their garage to the neighborhood for ice cream. Unfortunately, it rained a little harder this time, but did not dampen the ice cream lovers in the neighborhood.

Thank you, Peggy and Peter, for emptying out your garage for our summer events.

Your neighborhood recreation/social committee has been busy planning monthly activities for the rest of the year. We hope you will attend each one. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND LOOK FOR E-MAIL ANNOUNCEMENTS WITH MORE INFORMATION:

SEPTEMBER - - Stony Pointe Annual Block Party – Saturday, September 28th, 5 - 7 PM. We will provide barbecue and fried chicken. We request that you sign up at Peggy’s house (155 SPW) with what you will bring – salad, vegetable, or dessert. We think this event has gotten better with each year. Please stop by Peggy’s house between Friday, September 20th and Tuesday, September 24th to RSVP and let us know what you will bring. Donations are also acceptable. The Block Party will be at the upper end of Stony Pointe Way.

OCTOBER - - Bratwurst Cookout – Wednesday, October 16th, 5 – 7 PM. Be-cause this is such a beautiful area in the fall, we are planning a Bratwurst Cookout. Peter Zarrella is looking forward to cooking bratwursts for you. Cost will be $3 for one brat; $5 for two per person. Please bring a chair to 155 SPW to enjoy Peter’s bratwursts.

NOVEMBER - - Chili and Chips – Wednesday, November 13th, 5 – 7 PM. – We will provide chili and chips to enjoy beautiful fall weather outdoors. Again, it will be at the Zarrella's at 155 SPW. Please bring a chair. Cost will be $3 for one bowl; $5 for two bowls per person. We will also have des-serts.

DECEMBER - - Stony Pointe Annual Holiday Party – Saturday, December 7th, 6 – 10 PM. This year we will celebrate the holidays at the Hotel Strasburg. We will have a buffet with open bar beginning at 6:00 PM. Wear something festive and come out to enjoy the beginnings of the holidays.

Recreation Committee Continued…...

Our monthly Ladies Luncheon venues this summer included The Chocolate Restaurant in Winches-ter in July and the Flint Hill Public House in Flint Hill in August. This month we traveled back to Flint Hill to the Griffin Tavern. Our monthly luncheons are on the third Tuesday of the month. If you are inter-ested in attending and are not on our mailing list for the announcements, please contact either Bev Balanda (465-5563) or me. If needed, we can also help arrange transportation for you. We often carpool if the venue is outside of Strasburg. Thanks to Libby Conrad, Bev Balanda and Sandy Keller for organizing our three sum-mer luncheons.

The SP Convertible Club trips continued this summer. In July our intrepid trip leaders were Debi and Rich Hamilton who took us to the neat Town of Orange to the quaint restaurant, The Light Well.

We had a beautiful trip through Hume, Flint Hill and “Little Washington” on our August outing to the Brookside Restaurant in Luray led by Wendy and Gerry Kifer. On September 21st we will be going to the Artisans Grill in Luray, via Fort Valley, to be led by Peggy and Peter Zarrella. Since our newsletter is quarterly, the social/recreation committee often

communicates with owners and residents with announcements of events. If you have an e-mail account that you use, and if you did not get announce-

ments of our neighborhood events via e-mail this past summer, please send me your e-mail address so that I may add you to our e-mailing list. These social functions are open to all residents and owners of Stony Pointe.

————————————————— Thank you to all the recreation/social committee members who help plan and execute all of our events – Bev Balanda, Joyce Cantrell, Betty Sue Howard, Inga-Lill Johnsson, Ruth Waugh and Peggy Zarrella.

New neighborhood traveling group. As announced earlier via e-

mail, we have a new group forming. The new drive and dine group went out on its first trip on September 7th to the Battletown Inn in Berryville for lunch. The official name selected by those on the trip is “Wheels & Meals Club”. This is open to anyone with a car, a desire to drive our beautiful roads with a lunch as a destination. Each outing will be announced via e-mail. Our next trip, just announced, will be on Saturday, October 19th to Magnolias at the Mill in Purcell-

ville, led by DJ and Ed Harras. If you did not receive the announcement of the September trip sent on August 21, 2013, please call me with your e-mail address. If you do not have an e-mail account, but are interested in joining the group, also call me and we will add you to the list and contact you via phone for upcoming outings.

The Zarrella’s enjoyed their

lunch at Brookside!
