Seller Insight “It was the wonderful sense of privacy and complete seclusion of the setting that first attracted me to Stonehouse,” says the

owner. “The grounds, which completely envelop the house, consist mainly of ancient woodland, so no matter where you are the view is just stunning in every single direction.”

“When I purchased the property back in 2000 the house was in a very sorry state, in fact it was bordering on being derelict, but I could see that it had an absolute wealth of potential and so I embarked upon a very long and rather ambitious project of renovation. The whole house had to be stripped right back to the bare bones and then I enlisted the help of a number of specialist builders to sympathetically bring it back to life. The oak frame at the back of the house has been fully restored, the sand and cement has been replaced with more traditional lime mortar; I even found an old photograph that showed an original window, so I commissioned the reproduction of an exact copy. However, although I was keen to maintain the integrity of this lovely old building, this is very much a home that needs to fulfil the requirements of modern living, so the bathrooms and kitchen in particular are much more modern. It has top-of-the range appliances, fixtures and fittings, and behind the scenes elements such as the plumbing, wiring and insulation have all been brought right up to modern standards. It’s now a really stunning home and in my opinion one of a kind.”

“The grounds are without doubt the standout feature of this property and consist mainly of the most beautiful ancient woodland,” continues the owner. “When I came here there wasn’t really any garden to speak of so I’ve since had a number of garden designers – one of which has exhibited at Chelsea for over thirty years – to help design what is now a really breathtaking space.
