Stonehenge is an ancient megalith, like the Easter Island heads and Ireland’s Newgrange. A

megalith is a giant rock formation, or a monument.

?“How and why was Stonehenge created?” Is one

of the most frequently asked questions about Stonehenge, and the answer is… well, nobody really knows. But there are some theories.

Page 4: Stonehenge

Stonehenge was created in three

stages over hundreds of years. The most common theory of

Stonehenge's creation was that it was created by the

Druids.

This is what the first stage of Stonehenge might of looked like. It was pretty much a circle with two

banks around the outside. This period lasted from about 2950-2900.

This is what the second stage of Stonehenge might have looked like. It was an add-on to the first stage. It was more complicated than the first, but still not done. The people who made it added rows of bluestones, which is what the whole of Stonehenge is made of.

Here is stage III of Stonehenge. It is the final stage of Stonehenge. The creators

have added bluestones to the tops of the others. This is the finished version

and the one we see today.

Some people think that Stonehenge was a burial ground,

while others think it was an astronomical calendar. But we will

probably never know for sure.

Page 9: Stonehenge

People think it is a burial ground because of the amount of bodies found

around the area.

They think it is an astronomical calendar because it might have predicted eclipses, solstices, and equinoxes.

Stonehenge today has been worked on. In the late eighteen-hundreds it looked like this. Now, of course, it looks like this.

Stonehenge today is visited by millions of tourists. It is one of the seven wonders of the

world. Also, it is just awesome.
