ftu+,lopJ"Cradle To Cradle (C2C) Design

McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC)

WHAT IS C2C?C2C is a holistic economic, industrial and social framework that seeks to create systems that are not just efficientbut essentially waste freer. These frameworks assess for the whole product life-cycle, from raw material toproduction to finished products and to product after life (i.e., recycling).

The certification criteria in MBDC's C2C certification process arez:

'Material health', which involves identifying the chemical composition of the materials that make up theproduct, Particularly hazardous materials (e.g. heavy metals, pigments, halogen compounds etc.) Have to be

reported whatever the concentration and other materials reported where they exceed 100ppm. The risk foreach material is assessed against criteria and eventually ranked on a scale with green being materials of low risk,

yellow being those with moderate risk but are acceptable to continue to use, and red for materials that have

high risk and need to be phased out. Grey for materials with incomplete data. The method uses the term 'risk' in

the sense of hazard (as opposed to consequence and likelihood).t

The next assessment is of 'material reutilization' which is about recovery andycling at the end of product life.a

The third assessment is of energy required for production, which for the highest level

of certification needs to be based at least 50% on solar for all parts and

subassemblies.s

Fourth is water, particularly usage and discharge quality.s

The fifth area is'social responsibility', which refers to fair labor practices.z The certification is available at several

levels: basic, silver, gold, and platinum, with more stringent requirements at each.a

Why C2C?

The main reason for choosing C2C certification program is because it is a full encompassing product life cycle

model accounting from raw material to recycling, ln contrast, it is common for some models to recognize and

focus on one factor and fail to recognize others. lf an environmental product has very low carbon release, but

output toxic water and gas during its production process, should it still be considered an eco-friendly product?

Why should one pay more to support product, which resulting in excessive toxic water and gas? Thus, in order to

Page 8: Stone Paper Overview

fo,MISJ'^':- gi llvlullJU)

see the full picture and recognize the benefits of stone paper we have chosen C2C certification as our first

envi ronmenta I certification.

Focus on the 3R

Stone paper heavily emphasizes and follows the 3R, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle principles also of course covered

in the C2C model- material reutilization.

ReduceThe production of stone paper not only eliminates the harvest of trees, furthermore, its revolutionary paper

making methods also minimizes water, carbon dioxide and gaseous waste releases.

ReusesStone paper is highly water resistant and extremely durable material, thus, it is a product that can be reused

over long periods of time. With increasing number of reuses, it also saves on the demands for more resources

for production.

RecycleRecycle or compost? Many people believe composting or biodegradable is the way to go. However, composting

the material only makes the material "food" source for organism (cradle to grave). Yes, this can reduce the

amount of rubbish, if the product is demanded, then new resources will need to be spent to create the product

again. Where resource is limited, is this sustainable? ln orderto make the product sustainable, an infinite loop

(cradle to cradle) needs to be achieved, that is creating product from recycled material, whether the recycled

material is from in-house or from the recycling stream is the key. As stone paper is an inorganic material vastly

made up of "stone", it can be repeatedly recycled over and over again. Besides recycling stone paper, ifunfortunately, stone paper is not recycled and instead thrown out into nature, stone paperwill photo-degrade

when left under the sun for approximately 1 year. This is of course not the most ideal method in stone paper

recycle process, however, the photo-degradability feature at least minimizes the hazards this material causes to

the living creatures in our environment. Stone paper has been certified for its material content, recyclability, and

manufacturing characteristics by C2CCertified.org (licensed by C2CPll) and have achieved the silver grade rating.

Via further improving recognition in social responsibility along with other eco-goals LM hopes to further

strengthen the infinite loop of cradle to cradle. lf stone paper is not recycled or photo-degraded, it can also be

recycled via incineration in the furnace. Unlike pure plastic products, stone paper does not adhere to the

furnace walls resulting in faster wear and tear on the furnace. Furthermore, when incinerated the stone paper

returns to stone powder (calcium carbonate), this can then be recycled and reused. Please note the reuse

percentage can differ through differing channels.

ft\{,l,PJFAQ'S About Mineral Stone (MlSTrM) Paper

Q: What is MISTTM Paper?RMP is tree-free specialty paper made from 80% Calcium Carbonate, (one of the most

abundant minerals found on earth) and 20% Non toxic PE (use it as a binding agent.) lt isinherently water resistant, hard to tear, grease resistant, fire retardant, mold resistant, acid-free

and with FDA approved.

Q: Which applications are best suited for MISTTM Paper?Business Banners/Cards/Signs, Bottle Tags, Calendars, Custom Printed Boxes, GifUShoppingBags, Hang Sings/Coupons/Door/Luggage/PlanUPrice Tags, Label with Adhesive, Maps, NoteBooks, Promotional Materials & Marketing Collateral such as Brochures, Magazines, Posters,Signage and others; Disposable Food Packaging and much more as we continued to developnew product line to launch. MISTTM Paper is a great alternative for plastic application product

line; it is both cost-effective and environment friendly.

Q: What are the ecological benefits of MISTTM Paper?'1.) No trees are narveit in making of MISTTM and it is the Fifth (5th) most abundant element ofearth's natural mineral resources.3.) No water utilized during the making of MISTTM Paper, which it also means no water born

waste generated.4.) No bleach or strong acid used during the making of MISTTM Paper5.) Bypasses the polluting and high energy consumption processes of "cooking" and "bleaching"that are required with the traditional papermaking.6.) One (1) tons of MISTTM Paper procures one (1) tons of paper, where one (1) ton of Pulp

virgin paper requires Four (4) tons of pulp chips to produce one (1)tons of paper.

7.) MISTTM Paper is 100% Photodegradable or recyclable as #2 HDPE

Q: What is the end-of-life cycle option for MISTTM Paper?Mineral SensationrM Paper is infinitely recyclable. Because of the characteristic of its materials, this papercan be recycle along with the#2 HDPE plastic, when the material is reproduced, it

never lose its original integrity as "stone" will always remain its rock solid strength. No othermaterials can compare or possess our superior recyclability.

Q: How does the paper degrade?Over period of six (6) months to a year or longer depend on the thickness of material orproducts, MISTTM Paper or products will break down under the direct UV light exposure where itwillfirst become brittle and crack like an egg shells and when you touch it, it is return to itsnatural form of mineral powder. The small percentage of PE binding agent heats up from the UV

rays and helps break the calcium carbonate into smaller fragments and eventually turns into

powder. As degradation is one of our very benefits of the Mineral SensationrM Paper, but weencourage everyone to Recvcle as our primary focus and goals for our materials and product is

to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle as one of the best benefit of our material is marked with lnfinityrecyclability.

Q: What are all the printing options?MISTTM Paper is compatible for lnk Jet, Flexography, Letterpress, Offset Lithography,Rotogravure, Screen printing and Thermal transfer. You can use regular ink or vegetable/soybased inks. Mineral SensationrM Paper is not compatible with heat-fusion lasers and copierswithout proper coating. Be sure to ask for ink jet coating when printing intensive color graphics

and photographs.

Q: Are there other "stone based" papers in the marketplace? There are always copycats. We recognized similar products that claim to be stone based paperbut have found many variety of its composition, such as; 50% or less calcium carbonate with

several other binders such clay or pulp chips. Just remember any superior product with have its

rivals and its competitors. Our focus is that we produce our product and stay with its True rootand our Stone paper is with Certification to verify all our claims and our technology is Patentedin over 40 countries around the globe including the United States.
