1.  Are you aware that certain human activities degrade the environment?

Yes they are aware.

2.  What are the habits of the residents of the Barangay that you know is somehow destructive to

the environment? Do you think it will affect us?

According to them before, the residents would have no proper waste disposal system especially

those residing near the Sapangbalen River. They would use the river as a flowing garbage

disposal system, even though Sapangbalen is not part of our jurisdiction, as part of Angeles City

forming an alliance with Bishop Ambo and we are somehow getting affected negatively also, we

take part on rehabilitating the river. Residents now are strict in handling their waste disposal

especially when there is the provision of garbage collector systems.

3.  Are you aware of the existence of different types of pollution?

a.  Land Pollution

Causes: Improper Garbage disposal

Effects: Human health is affected because of the unsanitary habits they harbour

b.  Air Pollution

Causes: Vehicle exhausts and factory emissions and Burning of garbage

Effects: Respiratory diseases especially vulnerable groups such as children and Lung

cancer for adults

c.  Water Pollution

Causes: Decaying matters and garbage dumping at bodies of water and Oil spills

Effects: Affects clean water systems

4.  As a community, how do you contribute in saving the environment? Are there Programs or

Ordinances observed?

Their barangay supported and took part on the city ordinance

Sagip Sapangbalen proposed by Bishop Ambo. An upcoming

project would be Operation Takpan where pipes or canals of 

wastes leading to the river will be placed with permanent

closure to stop the poisoning of the river. The no smoking in

public areas is also implemented but some still do not follow

the city ordinance.

5.  What is the manner of waste disposal in the community?

a.  Solid Wastes:

Dumping

Burning

Burying

Collector

*For garbage collector based disposal. Where is it brought?

They are not sure exactly where the wastes are brought but the garbage collected is handled

by a government-based solid waste management department.

b.  Fluid/Liquid Wastes:

Proper sewage system

Pipes leading to Bodies of water

Unfortunately, some 60% of the residents in the barangay still dump their fluid wastes at the

river.
