Welcome to today’s livestreamed Sunday Parish Mass

O WORSHIP the KingAll glorious above;O gratefully singHis power and his love:Our Shield and Defender,The Ancient of days,Pavilioned in splendour,And girded with praise.O tell of his might,O sing of his grace,Whose robe is the light,Whose canopy space.His chariots of wrathThe deep thunder-clouds form,And dark is his pathOn the wings of the storm.

This earth, with its storeOf wonders untold,Almighty, thy powerHath founded of old:Hath stablished it fastBy a changeless decree,And round it hath cast,Like a mantle, the sea.

Frail children of dust,And feeble as frail,In thee do we trust,Nor find thee to fail;Thy mercies how tender!How firm to the end!Our Maker, Defender,

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John (John 1:35-42)Glory to you, O Lord.

This is the Gospel of the Lord Praise to you, O Christ

THE SERMONAfter which a period of silence is keptTHE CREED

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father;God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,and was made man.For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

Page 6: stjameschurchhanslopev1.files.wordpress.com  · Web view2021. 1. 15. · Lord Jesus, you are Word made flesh. and splendour of the Father: Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. May

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified.He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen

the King of all the world was revealed to the nations.In the waters of baptism Jesus was revealed as the Christ,the Saviour sent to redeem us.In the water made wine the new creation was revealed at the wedding feast. Poverty was turned to riches, sorrow into joy.Therefore with all the angels of heavenwe lift our voices to proclaim the glory of your nameand proclaim our joyful hymn of praise:Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness; grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit, and according to your holy will, these gifts of bread and wine may become the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ;who in the same night that he was betrayed,took bread and gave you thanks;

he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE, EAT; THIS IS MY BODY WHICH IS GIVEN FOR YOU; DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.

In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying:

DRINK THIS, ALL OF YOU; THIS IS MY BLOOD OF THE NEW COVENANT,

Page 10: stjameschurchhanslopev1.files.wordpress.com  · Web view2021. 1. 15. · Lord Jesus, you are Word made flesh. and splendour of the Father: Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. May

WHICH IS SHED FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS. DO THIS, AS OFTEN AS YOU DRINK IT, IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.Great is the mystery of faithChrist has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross, his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins of the whole world; rejoicing in his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension, and looking for his coming in glory, we celebrate this memorial of our redemption. As we bring before you this bread and this cup, we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving and we thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you.

Lord, may this sacrifice,which has made our peace with you,advance the peace and salvation of all the world.Strengthen in faith your pilgrim Church on earth;your servant Jonathan our bishop, and all the bishops.Welcome into your kingdom our departed brothers and sisters, and all who have left this world in your friendship.

Send the Holy Spirit on your people and gather into one in your kingdom all who share this one bread and one cup, so that we, in the company of Holy Mary, Mother of God, of James, Simon & Jude, and all the saints, may praise and glorify you for ever, through Jesus Christ our Lord;by whom, and with whom, and in whom,

Page 11: stjameschurchhanslopev1.files.wordpress.com  · Web view2021. 1. 15. · Lord Jesus, you are Word made flesh. and splendour of the Father: Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. May

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever. Amen.

As our Saviour Christ commanded and taught, together we pray:Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by thy name,thy kingdom come, thy will be done,on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread,and forgive us our trespasses,as we forgive those who trespass against us.and lead us not into temptation,but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,the power and the glory,

for for ever and ever. Amen.We break this bread to share in the body of Christthough we are many we are one body, because we all share in one bread.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world,grant us peace.THE INVITATIONBehold the Lamb of God, behold Him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those who are called to his supper.Lord, I am not worthy to receive you,but only say the word and I shall be healed.

You have prepared a table before me,and how precious is the chalice that quenches my thirst.AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION FOR THOSE AT HOMESpiritual Communion is a Christian practice of desiring union with Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. It is used as a preparation for Mass and by individuals who cannot receive Holy Communion.

Say the following prayerfully and quietly before saying the Prayer for Spiritual Communion:Jesus my Lord, I thee adore, O make me love thee more and more.Come to my heart Lord Jesus, there is room in my heart for thee.

HYMN Just as I am, without one pleaBut that thy blood was shed for me,And that thou bidd'st me come to thee,O Lamb of God, I come.Just as I am, though tossed aboutWith many a conflict, many a doubt,Fightings within, and fears without,O Lamb of God, I come.Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind;Sight, riches, healing of the mind,Yea all I need, in thee to find,O Lamb of God, I come.Just as I am, thou wilt receive,Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve:Because thy promise I believe,O Lamb of God, I come! I come!Just as I am (thy love unknownHas broken every barrier down),Now to be thine, yea thine alone,O Lamb of God, I come.Just as I am, of that free loveThe breadth, length, depth and height to prove,Here for a season then above,O Lamb of God, I come. THE ANGELUSA PRAYER IN THANKSGIVING FOR THE INCARNATION

The Angel of the Lord brought tidings to Mary: And she conceived by the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it unto me according to Thy word. Hail Mary . . . And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us. Hail Mary . . . Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that as we have known the Incarnation of thy Son Jesus Christ by the message of an angel, so by His Cross and Passion may we be brought unto the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.
