Report of Officers and Standing Committees:
1st Vice President Patty Pruitt reminded members that the UFO Resolution Quilts would be displayed later in the meeting, due to the cancellation of the January meeting when they were originally due. She said the forms for the 2019 Resolution Quilt project were due at this meeting. Patty said she would pass out directions for the January and February block patterns for the Block of the Month project in 3 different sizes later in the meeting. She explained that participants who completed their blocks and brought them to the meeting would have their name entered in a drawing for a nice prize to be awarded at the end of the project. Patty reported that the guild held a very successful workday on January 21 with many baby quilts made for the Linus Project and Snug as a Bug. Jennifer Carter, owner of the Busy Lady Quilt Shop in Mt. Washington, will be the featured speaker in March and Karen Riggins will be the guest speaker in June during the pot luck gathering.
2nd Vice President Kelly Pruitt reported that a sign-up sheet to ride the bus to the Paducah Quilt Show in April was available. Members who worked at the guild quilt show in September could ride the bus free of charge. They would be required to put down a $25 deposit to save their space, but would be refunded. Non guild members could ride the bus for $50 if there was space available. The bus would be open for non-members to sign-up any time after February 27. She reported that the sign-up sheets for Susan McCombs Precision Quilting workshop (March 23) and the Pretty Package workshop which she would be teaching May 18 and 19 were also available. She said the Pretty Package workshop was $15 with pattern and $5 without pattern. She also said it would be taught at the Church of the Nazarene on North Miles.
Secretary Anne Aubrey introduced three of the new members (Amy, Tracy, Eileen) and gave them a Stitcher pin and membership card. She mentioned that she had membership cards ready for any members who failed to pick theirs up at the December meeting. She also reported that the article she sent in to KHQS was printed in the current KHQS newsletter.
Treasurer Rebecca Gary said she could collect dues at any time, but they are not due until June.
Quilt Show – Quilt Show Chairman, Patty Pruitt, said there had been 2 meetings thus far, and seems were coming along well. The quilt entry forms were ready and pictures would not be necessary this year. Non guild members could submit quilts for $5 per quilt. The Vendor’s Choice quilt would feature flying geese and could be any size larger than 24” x 24”. Larry McKinney would be the featured quilter. She asked members to donate nice containers or baskets if they had any to be used for gift prizes. She also reported that Sonia Cruz-Putney and Cathy Garrett had volunteered to chair the country store. A chairman for the café is still needed, although several community groups might be invited to take on the café, if guild members did not want to run a café. Vendor space was nearly full, and the Opportunity Quilt pattern had been selected. Three different sizes of the Bear Paw block would make up the quilt and members were asked to volunteer to make one for the quilt. The quilt would be scrappy and would be a small king or large queen in size. The quilt show would be September 27 and 28.
Old Business: Quilts for Hosparus are still needed and can be given to Suzanne Davis or Vicki Loyall.
New Business: President Chenault reported that she attended the last Homemaker meeting. Plans for the Spring Bazaar to be held on April 13th were discussed. She asked the club to make the usual $5 donation for the Bazaar. Since there was no opposition, the request will be honored. Amy Aldenderfer moved that the club give 2 $25.00 gift cards for the Homemakers Gift Card Tree. Christy Huffer seconded the motion, which was passed. Patty Pruitt, Eileen Robbins, Lesa Bennett, Martha Claycomb, and Barbara Jeffries volunteered to donate baked goods for the Bazaar. President Chenault said we might also be interested in sponsoring a child to attend 4 H Camp. Judy Applegate moved that the guild donate $250 to sponsor a child. Barbara Dixon seconded the motion which passed. Bonnie Young moved that the guild donate $100 to go to the Friends of Hardin County Animal Shelter. Dawne Johnson seconded the motion which passed.
