Still image analysis of romance trailer (The notebook)

This wide shot at the start of the trailer is very effective as it gives a strong idea to the audience that the movie is a romantic movie as there is a transition fade of the geese from one scene onto this scene where they are flying. Geese are seen as a romantic bird as white connotes purity and can be linked with sterotypical movies. This shot it also effective as a movie trailer as it shows the kind of setting, almost as an establishing shot of the area.

The clothes in this shot are also effective at portraying the romance genre. The old fashioned clothes tell the audience that this scene is set in the past. Stereotypically romantic movies are set in the past as people where more romantic to one another.

This scene shows a different guy to who was recently shown in the trailer proposing to the main female actor, this gives the audience an idea of the conflict between the two male characters who are both in love with the female actor.

The costume in this shot is also effective in the trailer as it gives the audience an idea of what the movie is about and who it is set on. This also portrays the characters in

a more formal and asthetically pleasing maner which appeals to the audience and makes them want to watch the movie more.

The use of mise-en-scene in this shot of the romance trailer is very effective at showing the key events of the trailer (the marriage). The wedding dress also connotes love and romance as this is why people get married, this will apeal to people who are interested in romanace movie which are based around love.

This shot of the two main actors shouting at each is very stereotypical for a romantic movie trailer is it portrays the conflict between the characters they are also very emotional and standing out in the rain but not worried about the rain tells us that the thing they are arguing about it very important. This gives the audience a snippet of the conflict in the movie making them want to watch it and find out more.

The use of camera work in this shot clearly shows the romantic setting by showing the couple rowing together. This is very conventional for a romance movie as it shows the two in love together.

The high camera angle in this shot empthasises their alone and together on the rowing boat in a romantic setting which will apeal to the audience who enjoy romantic movies.

This two shot of the two actors dancing in the middle of a road portrays the romance between the two characters very well. The use of the shallow focus in this shot creates a romantic almost like lighting in the background setting the mood as stereotypically lights in the background or lighting such as candle lighting is seen as romantic. This strong portrayal of

romance in this scene clearly shows the emotions of the movie and makes the audience want to watch the trailer.
