Fourth-Year Drama Production2021–22 Season
Stick FlyBy Lydia R. Diamond

A Message From Evan Yionoulis
Welcome to Juilliard Drama’s production of Lydia R. Diamond’s Stick Fly, directed by the division’s newly appointed associate director, Derrick Sanders, who produced the premiere of the play at Chicago’s Congo Square Theatre, which he cofounded. This play—both poignant and engaging—explores love, privilege, and belonging as a family gathers in their Martha’s Vineyard home.
We hope you will also join us in December for the final production of our fall fourth-year season: Paula Vogel’s Indecent, a play with music about a Yiddish theater troupe’s production of a controversial play, directed by Maggie Burrows.
We are thrilled to have you back in person with us, taking part in the journey of our graduating actors as they prepare to enter the profession. We are overjoyed to collaborate with the dedicated Juilliard production staff and this exciting professional creative team—and to introduce Derrick and welcome him into our community.
We are so happy to be able to share the work with you.

Plays produced this season allow fourth-year actors to explore vital stories that speak to the concerns of the times, to apply all aspects of their training to the creation of character, and, finally, to share the work with you, the audience.
Stick Fly was developed in part at Chicago Dramatists, originally produced by Congo Square Theatre and subsequently produced by McCarter Theatre Center. A further developmental production directed by Kenny Leon was produced jointly by Arena Stage and the Huntington Theatre Company.
Stick Fly is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com
