Congratulations Chaundra!Chaundra Smith, a Durham

native, mother of two is the latest recipient of a $50,000 grand prize. Ms.Smith entered a contest she found on Facebook. Pittney Bowes offered the contest in which over 400 people applied in hopes of taking home the prize. There were ten finalist who each received $50,000 to expand their businesses. I asked Chaundra if she ever thought she would win and she said, “Absolutely not, I was in complete shock when I received the email.”

Chaundra has invested in professional marketing materials, treated herself to a small, much needed shopping spree and blessed others with her winnings. Her advice to our readers is, “Always put God first and He will make provisions.”

Salvation and Deliverance Ministries is a place “where the word finds you and God molds and shapes you.” Pastors Glendale and Phoebe Daniels along with their congregation came out to Lake Wheeler Park on a Saturday afternoon to give back to the community. There was free clothing, school supplies, free food and fun for kids of all ages. Face painting and bounce house fun was a great hit for all that attended. There was a light rain but it didn’t stop the show. The entertainment included the praise team singers, praise dancers and there was an awesome word from Pastor Glendale.

This morning before my girls headed out the door for school I talked to them about being “image bearers” for Christ. I wanted them to have something to remember throughout the day as they entered their battle field. A visual picture is always something that sticks with us. So, we talked about how every coin has the image of someone on it, whether it’s George Washington or Abraham Lincoln. The image is molded into the metal. Every time we look at a quarter we are reminded of George Washington. When we reach into our pockets for a penny we are reminded of Abraham Lincoln because his image is forever minted or ingrained into that particular piece of money.

In Genesis 1:27 God’s word tells us “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” We were made in the image of God! We were intended from the beginning to be image bearers of our Creator. So, what does it mean to be made in the image of God? The word image in the original language is the word tselem which means: image, likeness or resemblance. In the beginning we were made in the likeness of God. We were made to resemble God. How cool is that!

Now, we know the rest of the story. How the crafty serpent twisted God’s truth and deceived Eve and she took the bait, hook, line and sinker and sin entered into

the world. Sin distorted and marred the image of God in us. According to Genesis 5:3 – When Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth. So no longer “image bearers of God” but image bearers of sinful man. But God had a plan, the Father knew one day His one and only, perfect, sinless Son Jesus Christ (born of a virgin), would restore us back to God through His shed blood on the Cross. He would be crucified, to die a cruel brutal death for our sins and be placed in a borrowed tomb and on the third day He would rise from the grave ALIVE (not a ghost) flesh and blood. He would once again be joined with His Father in heaven, seated at His right hand, making intercession (praying) for His children.

Jesus Christ has made a way for us to be restored and reconciled back to our Father. To once again be “image bearers of God.” 2 Corn. 5:17 – Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. (18)Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, (19) namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. (20) Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you

on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. (21) He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

So, if you are saved by the blood of the Lamb Jesus Christ if you have repented of your sins and asked Jesus to come into your heart and forgive you of all your sins, to be the Lord (Adonai – Master) of your life, you my friend are made a new creation. No longer marred by sin, but now you and I are image bearers of Christ.

With that being said, let me ask you a question. Remember the coins we talked about earlier, when we look at a quarter we see George Washington’s image. If you are a born again Christian think about this question, when people look at you do they see the image of Jesus, the image of God?

Whose image are you bearing?

Robyn Jackson

Robyn Jackson is a Christian, a wife, a mother and a writer; in this order. She has been married for almost 19 years and a mother of four. God and her writings have been her constant in an emotional, physical, and sexually abusive childhood. In His Mercy God pulled her out of that environment and placed her with a family that soon raised her as their own. Due to the abuse she suffered, Robyn is able to relate to those who have been abused. Writing has been an area in which she feels she can minister to others.

Presently, Robyn is writing a collection of memoirs about her experiences of abuse and how God led her through and brought her out of each situation. Her prayer is that the Lord would write through her and allow those writings to be in the hands of those who would be blessed by the words.

A memory from a lifetime ago.

I was running an errand for a relative and I decided to hide up on a rooftop for a couple of hours. I visited this rooftop many times. It was a place of solitude for me, a way of getting closer to God. I felt like if I reached high enough, I could just touch God's face. Perhaps I could even count the hairs on His head, or see the color of His eyes. I wanted so much back then to be able to do that. If I was to be honest, there are times today I’d like to do that. I would love to feel the touch of His embrace, feel the warmth of His breath on my neck. To know that He was standing right here next to me, doubt and disbelief would never enter my world again. I think the closest I have ever come to feeling this way is when I am lying next to my husband in our bed on a summer night. The night air is warm, but not sticky. He is sleeping peacefully, while his breath comes evenly towards me. I know I am safe as I lie net to him, I take his hand and I place it upon my shoulder, and in that very moment of peacefulness, tranquility, and love, I feel closer to God then I think I ever will. That is how I know my husband is not only a man of God, but is my gift from God.

When I looked over the edge of the roof, I could see life going on. The people were walking to and fro, children were playing on the sidewalks. Life was going on without me and here I was just looking down below like an angel that watches from Heaven.

An angel that does not want to walk the streets below, does not want to see nor feel the sadness of everyday life anymore. Perhaps that is why I went up there, for a chance to be that angel. Angels are invisible, no one sees them or notices them. They are protected by God, put here to watch over us. On that very day, God sent me an angel. I didn’t realize it then, but He did.

As I was sitting on that rooftop, I was atop of a slanted doorway just enjoying the view. All of a sudden I saw two teenage boys looking around like they had lost somethng. They couldn’t be younger then 17, and they were definitley searching for something… or someone. It was a large rooftop and the boys went different ways to search; one of them was right in front of me, not 5 feet in front of my face. I opened my mouth and nothing came out. I tried again and realized my voice was not escaping me. That boy looked high and low around that doorway I was sitting on, and yet somehow did not see me. It ws as if an invisible barrier was between us keeping him from noticing that I was right in front of him. When my voice failed me that second time, something within me said “be still” and so I was. The boy in front of me was motioning something to the other boy and although I didn’t understand, I knew enough to be afraid. When the boy finally left my line of vision, I jumped down off the doorway and ran down the stairs. I don’t know if I ever ran so fast. Although I was only 11 years

old, and in those days 11 year old girls were very naive, I realized who those boys were looking for. They had seen me go up there, and it was me they wanted. I ran home as fast as I could and I never went up there again.

The following day I heard two teenage boys had been caught up there with a little girl. I don’t know what they were doing, but I knew it wasn’t good. I thanked God for keeping me safe, I thanked God for that Angel that kept that wall around me so I was not seen. I am

Remember when your kid wanted you to take off from work to have lunch with him in the school cafeteria? He even wanted you to meet his friends! Those days are long gone! Now you’ve been subjected to your teen’s number one safety procedure – The Lockout! This is not to be confused with public school “lockdowns” where no one can go in or out. Your teen can come and go as he pleases. Instead, it is YOU who cannot go in. You see, teens don’t want parents, so they pretend that they don’t have them. It seems they skipped biology class when the fertilization process and growth of the fetus was explained. They don’t want these critters called “parents” hovering and snooping around, particularly in their domain – SCHOOL! If you pass your teen in the hall, he might glance in your direction, and then turn away like you are a locker on the wall. This is because he’s made it clear. You heard it right… you’ve been Locked Out!

It’s because of this that parents start to drop off the face of the earth when their kids matriculate into middle school. You see, parents don’t want to be invisible people. If they don’t feel needed, they stay away. I know this because I’m the PTA president for my daughter’s middle school. I was told that finding parent volunteers in secondary schools is like finding a lone needle or two in a haystack. I was determined to find a way to get the parents back “in.” It took some effort, but we had over 125

parent volunteers last year.

There are many ways parents can be involved in their teen’s school. Those who continue to volunteer realize that it’s even more important to be involved once their child reaches his teen years. This is the time when things might go awry, and in a bigger way.

It’s imperative that teens understand that their parents are not “checking up” on them, but helping out because they care about their teen’s education and special interests.

Middle school and high school students are eager to be independent. They are capable of designing t-shirts, decorating for events, and fundraising. You will probably be given a supervisory role. If older students know that you value their opinions, they’ll welcome you. Joining the PTSA or booster clubs that your teen is involved in will enable you to find out where help is needed. Plus, you can meet the parents of some of the other teens this way. Be sure to subscribe to the school’s online newsletter or mass e-mails. This way, if your teen is not talking about what is going on, you will still be “in the know.” Studies show that your involvement in your teen’s school does make a difference. So, don’t drop out when she turns thirteen!

If you’re still skeptical, perhaps these simple tips will help you get by:

• Safety is in numbers – volunteer when there are lots of other parents helping too… then your teen can easily pretend he doesn’t know you.

• When chaperoning a trip, sit directly behind the bus driver – as far from your teen as possible.

• Stay away from the classrooms. Your days of tying shoes are over!

• Helping at a dance? Hide behind the buffet table and carefully blend into the gym wall padding.

• Avoid the lunchroom, unless selling pizza to hungry teens taking finals – then they’ll love you!

• Just say hi to the friends. Teens don’t say hi to their parents, but they do say hi to their friend’s parents.

With every new day comes an opportunity to change. There are people who change careers, churches and place of residence. Even with the physical changes that occur, there are also some spiritual changes that are manifested. In order to make a career change, you must be led to go in another direction. With God leading the way, you will never go astray. He says in His word, that He will order our steps so don’t be afraid to change.

There are some people who have had the same hairstyle for twenty years, driven the same car for twenty years and even worked on the same job for over twenty years. Change isn’t in their vocabulary and that’s fine as long as God is leading them to stay in the same place. However, there are times when you must move in order to watch God work in your life.

Please don’t read this article and think you need to change everything about your life. If you’re reading this and you feel led to make some changes, please by all means, let God lead you. Change is good for the soul in more ways than one so open your eyes and ears to what life has in store for you. If you’ve always dreamed of opening that business, now is the time, dreams are only deferred when you don’t move.

I am grateful that God has blessed me with so many gifts to touch others and help them find their true purpose in life. So, if you haven’t talked to Jesus lately, make time for Him and watch Him make it all work out for you.

Be blessed in all you do and never settle for less than what the Father has to offer.

Although your teen doesn’t seem to want you around, your mere presence at school functions, sporting events, and concerts is extremely important. TIPS AND TALES

“Out here, the parents of the orchestra kids work at functions for other events (i.e. choirs or thespian productions) so we can enjoy our own kids at their concerts. The same goes for sports activities. I have a football player and will have to take a turn at basketball games or swim meets. You get to meet other parents and

get to know the parents of their friends-much to their dismay!” – Darleen Bussy, Indianapolis, IN

“I read the newsletter to find events that I know my kids are involved or interested in. My kids don't mind me being around because I don't smother them.” – Joan Pagliocco - Basking Ridge, NJ

grateful that I look back on that day as a testimony and not as a story of victimization.

I believe that when we as parents, aunts, uncles, even friends, pray for one another, we are praying for God’s Angels to come down. I believe someone was praying for me that day, calling down a hedge

of protection from the Lord and He provided. I as a parent now pray over our children daily. I pray for the Lord's protection and I know with all of my heart that they are protected by Him, so again I continue to be thankful and I give Him praise.
