1 DESCRIPTION

1.1 PURPOSEThis machine is used to cut grass, light weeds, andother similar vegetation at or around ground level. Thecutting plane must be approximately parallel to theground surface. You cannot use the machine to cut orchop hedges, shrubs, bushes, flowers and compost.

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING (THISPOWER TOOL)

WARNINGRead and understand all instructions before using thisproduct. Failure to follow all instructions listed belowmay result in electric shock, fire, and/or seriouspersonal injury.

• Use only identical manufacturer’s replacement partsand accessories. Use of any other parts may createa hazard or cause product damage.

• Always wear safety glasses with side shieldsmarked to comply with ANSI Z87.1. Everydayglasses have only impact resistant lenses. They areNOT safety glasses. Following this rule will reducethe risk of eye injury. Use face mask if operating industy work spaces.

• Avoid Dangerous Environment – Don’t exposepower tools to damp or wet conditions. Waterentering a power tool will increase the risk of electricshock.

• Don’t use in rain.• Keep all bystanders, children, and pets at least 50 ft.

• Don’t Force Appliance – It will do the job better andwith less likelihood of a risk of injury at the rate forwhich it was designed.

• Don’t overreach – Keep proper footing and balanceat all times.

• Stay alert – Watch what you are doing. Usecommon sense. Do not operate this unit when youare tired, ill or under the influence of alcohol, drugsor medication.

• Always store idle power tools indoors – When not inuse, power tools should be stored indoors in a dryand high or locked-up place, out of reach ofchildren.

• Maintain Appliance With Care – Replace string headif cracked, chipped, or damaged in any way. Be surethe string head is properly installed and securelyfastened. Keep cutting edge sharp and clean forbest performance and to reduce the risk of injury.Follow instructions for lubricating and changingaccessories. Inspect appliance cord periodically,and if damaged, have it repaired by an authorizedservice facility. Inspect extension cords periodicallyand replace if damaged. Keep handles dry, clean,and free from oil and grease. Failure to do so cancause serious injury.

• Check damaged parts before using the appliance, aguard or other part that is damaged should becarefully checked to determine that it will operateproperly and perform its intended function. Checkfor alignment of moving parts, binding of movingparts, breakage of parts, damaged mountings, andany other condition that may affect its operation. Aguard or other part that is damaged should beproperly repaired or replaced by an authorized

service center unless indicated elsewhere in thismanual.

• Do not charge appliance in rain, or in wet locations.• Remove or disconnect battery before servicing,

cleaning or removing material from the gardeningappliance.

• Use appliances only with specifically designatedbattery packs. Use of any other battery packs maycreate a risk of injury and fire. Use only GreenworksBAF721 battery or other BAF series.

• Recharge only with the charger specified by themanufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one typeof battery pack may create a risk of fire when usedwith another battery pack. Use only GreenworksCAF series or 2900802 charger.

• When battery pack is not in use, keep it away fromother metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys,nails, screws or other small metal objects, that canmake a connection from one terminal to another.Shorting the battery terminals together may cause afire.

• Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejectedfrom the battery; avoid contact. If contactaccidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquidcontacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquidejected from the battery may cause irritation orburns.

• Do not use a battery pack or appliance that isdamaged or modified. Damaged or modifiedbatteries may exhibit unpredictable behaviorresulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury.

• Do not expose a battery pack or appliance to fire orexcessive temperature. Exposure to fire ortemperature above 265 °F (130 °C) may cause anexplosion.

• Do not dispose of the batteries in a fire. The cellsmay explode. Check with local codes for possiblespecial disposal instructions.

• Do not open or mutilate the batteries. Releasedelectrolyte is corrosive and may cause damage tothe eyes or skin. It may be toxic if swallowed.

• Exercise care in handling batteries in order not toshort the battery with conducting materials such asrings, bracelets, and keys. The battery or conductormay overheat and cause burns.

• Follow all charging instructions and do not chargethe battery pack or appliance outside of thetemperature range specified in the instructions.Charging improperly or at temperatures outside ofthe specified range may damage the battery andincrease the risk of fire.

• Have servicing performed by a qualified repairperson using only identical replacement parts. Thiswill ensure that the safety of the product ismaintained.

• Keep guards in place and in working order.• Keep hands and feet away from cutting area.

• Disconnect the battery pack from the appliancebefore making any adjustments, changingaccessories, or storing appliance. Such preventivesafety measures reduce the risk of starting theappliance accidentally.

• Use only with the nylon cutting line of 0.065" (1.65mm) diameter. Do not use heavier lines thanrecommended by the manufacturer and linematerials of other types – for example, metal wire,rope, and the like.

4 RISK LEVELSThe following signal words and meanings are intendedto explain the levels of risk associated with this product.

5 SERVICEServicing requires extreme care and knowledge andmust be performed only by a qualified servicetechnician. For service we suggest you return themachine to your nearest AUTHORIZED SERVICECENTER for repair. Use only identical manufacturer’sreplacement parts and accessories.

6 ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFEBATTERY DISPOSAL

The toxic and corrosive materials below are in thebatteries used in this machine: Lithium-Ion, a toxicmaterial.

WARNINGDiscard all toxic materials in a specified manner toprevent contamination of the environment. Beforediscarding damaged or worn out Li-ion battery, contactyour local waste disposal agency, or the localEnvironmental Protection Agency for information andspecific instructions. Take the batteries to a localrecycling and/or disposal center, certified for lithium-ion disposal.

WARNINGIf the battery pack cracks or breaks, with or withoutleaks, do not recharge it and do not use. Discard itand replace with a new battery pack. DO NOT TRYTO REPAIR IT! To prevent injury and risk of fire,explosion, or electric shock, and to avoid damage tothe environment:

• Cover the terminals of the battery with heavy-dutyadhesive tape.

• DO NOT try to remove or destroy any of thebattery pack components.

• DO NOT try to open the battery pack.• If a leak develops, the released electrolytes are

corrosive and toxic. DO NOT get the solution in theeyes or on skin, and do not swallow it.

• DO NOT put these batteries in your regularhousehold trash.

• DO NOT incinerate.• DO NOT put them where they will become part of

any waste landfill or municipal solid waste stream.• Take them to a certified recycling or disposal

center.

7 INSTALLATION

7.1 UNPACK THE MACHINE

WARNINGMake sure that you correctly assemble the machinebefore use.

WARNING• If the parts have damage, do not use the machine.• If you do not have all the parts, do not operate the

machine.• If the parts are damaged or missing, speak to the

service center.

1. Open the package.2. Read the documentation in the box.3. Remove all the unassembled parts from the box.4. Remove the machine from the box.5. Discard the box and package in compliance with

local regulations.

7.2 ATTACH THE EDGE GUIDEFigure 2.

NOTEThe edge guide can limit the cutting range of themachine and decrease the risk of the damage causedby the rotating cutting line.

1. Push the edge guide onto the trimmer head until itengages in the slots.

2. The edge guide can be flipped up for storage.

7.3 ATTACH THE GUARDFigure 3.

WARNINGDo not touch the cut-off blade.

1. Remove the screws from the trimmer head with aPhillips head screwdriver (not included).

2. Put the guard onto the trimmer head.3. Align the screw holes on the guard with the screw

holes on the trimmer head.4. Tighten the screws.

7.4 ASSEMBLE THE SHAFTFigure 4.1. Push the lower shaft into the upper shaft.2. Align the groove on the lower shaft with the

prominent part in the upper shaft.3. Slide the shafts until the release button locks into

the positioning hole in the upper shaft.4. Tighten the coupler.

7.5 ATTACH THE AUXILIARY HANDLEFigure 5.1. Remove the knob from the handle.2. Attach the auxiliary handle on the shaft.3. Set the auxiliary handle in the comfortable position.4. Tighten the auxiliary handle with the knob.

7.6 INSTALL THE BATTERY PACKFigure 6.

WARNING• If the battery pack or charger is damaged, replace

the battery pack or the charger.• Stop the machine and wait until the engine stops

before you install or remove the battery pack.• Read, know, and do the instructions in the battery

and charger manual.• The battery is shipped at 30% charge. Charge the

battery fully before first use.

1. Align the lift ribs on the battery pack with thegrooves in the battery compartment.

2. Push the battery pack into the battery compartmentuntil the battery pack locks into place.

3. When you hear a click, the battery pack is installed.

7.7 REMOVE THE BATTERY PACKFigure 6.1. Push and hold the battery release button.2. Remove the battery pack from the machine.

8 OPERATION

IMPORTANTBefore you operate the machine, read and understandthe safety regulations and the operation instructions.

WARNINGBe careful when you operate the machine.

8.1 START THE MACHINEFigure 7.1. Pull back on the lock-out button and pull the trigger.

8.2 STOP THE MACHINEFigure 7.1. Release the trigger to stop the machine.

8.3 OPERATION TIPSFigure 7.

WARNINGKeep clearance between the body and the machine.

WARNINGDo not operate the machine without guard in place.

Do these tips when you use the machine

• Keep the machine connected to the correctly wornharness.

• Keep a firm hold with the two hands on the machinewhile you operate the machine.

• Cut tall grass from the top down.

If grass winds around the trimmer head:

• Remove the battery pack.• Remove the grass.

8.4 CUTTING TIPSFigure 8.• Tilt the machine toward the area to be cut. Use the

tip of the cutting line to cut grass.• Move the machine from right to left to prevent

thrown debris toward the operator.• Do not cut in the dangerous area.

• Do not force the trimmer head into uncut grass.• Wire and picket fences cause cutting line wear and

breakage. Stone and brick walls, curbs, and woodcan wear the cutting line quickly.

8.5 ADJUST THE LENGTH OF THECUTTING LINE

NOTEThe machine has an auto-feed head. It will damagethe machine if you hit the head to try to advance theline.

NOTEIf the cutting line does not automatically advance, itcan be tangled or empty.

1. When the machine is on, release the trigger.2. Wait two seconds, push the trigger again.

NOTEThe line will extend approximately 0.4 in. with eachstop and start of the switch trigger until the linereaches the cut-off blade and the cut-off blade cuts theexcess length.

8.6 ADJUST THE LENGTH OF THECUTTING LINE MANUALLY

the same time.3. Pull and remove the spool cover.4. Pull the cutting line manually to the appropriate

length.5. Install the spool cover.

8.7 ADJUST THE CUTTING DIAMETERFigure 9.

NOTEThe machine is set at a 12 in. (305 mm) cuttingdiameter. You can adjust to a 10 in. (254 mm) cuttingdiameter.

Set the cutting diameter to 10 in. (254 mm) for greaterruntime and 12 in. (305 mm)for a larger cutting area.

1. Remove the battery pack.2. Remove the blade screws from the cut-off blade.3. Turn the cut-off blade 180°.

4. Tighten the blade screws.

8.8 CHANGE TO THE EDGING MODEFigure 10 - 11.

NOTEThe machine can be used in combination with theedge guide for edging sidewalks and walkways.

1. Stop the machine and flip down the edge guide fromstored position.

2. Pull the edging coupler and turn the trimmer head180 degrees until the trimmer head locks intoposition.

3. Release the edging coupler.

8.9 ADJUST THE LENGTH OF THESHAFT

NOTEYou can adjust the length of the shaft to operate themachine easily.

1. Stop the machine.2. Loosen the telescoping boom coupler and move the

shaft to the desired position.3. Tighten the coupler.

9 MAINTENANCE

IMPORTANTRead and understand the safety regulations and themaintenance instructions before you clean, repair ordo the maintenance work on the machine.

IMPORTANTMake sure that all nuts, bolts and screws are tight.Examine regularly that you install the handles tightly.

IMPORTANTUse only the replacement parts and accessories of theinitial manufacturer.

9.1 GENERAL INFORMATION

IMPORTANTOnly your dealer or approved service center can dothe maintenance that is not given in this manual.

Before the maintenance operations:

• Stop the machine.

• Remove the battery pack.• Cool the motor.• Store the machine in cool and dry place.• Use correct clothing, protective gloves and safety

glasses.

9.2 CLEAN THE MACHINE• Clean the machine after use with a moist cloth

dipped in neutral detergent.• Do not use aggressive detergents or solvents to

clean the plastic parts or handles.• Keep the trimmer head free of grass, leaves, or

excessive grease.• Keep the air vents clean and free of debris to avoid

overheating and damage to the motor or the battery.• Do not spray water onto the motor and electrical

components.

9.3 REPLACE THE SPOOLFigure 13 - 14.1. Push the tabs on the sides of the trimmer head at

the same time.2. Pull and remove the spool cover.3. Remove the spool.4. Replace with a new spool.

NOTEMake sure that the cutting line is in the guide slot onthe new spool, and is extended approximately 5 in.before you install the new spool.

5. Put the end of the cutting line through the eyelet.6. Push the tabs and install the spool cover onto the

spool housing.7. Push the spool cover until it clicks into position.

9.4 REPLACE THE CUTTING LINEFigure 15.

NOTERemove the remaining cutting line on the spool.

NOTEUse only with the nylon cutting line of 0.065" (1.65mm) diameter.

1. Cut a piece of cutting line approximately 3m long.2. Bend one end of the line 1/4 of an inch (6.35mm) .3. Insert the line into the anchor hole of the spool.4. Wind the cutting line around the spool tightly in the

indicated direction.5. Put the cutting line in the guide slot.

6. Do not wind the cutting line beyond the edge of thespool.

10 TRANSPORTATION ANDSTORAGE

WARNINGRemove the battery pack from the machine beforetranportation and storage.

10.1 STORE THE MACHINE• Remove the battery pack from the machine.• Make sure that children cannot come near the

machine.• Keep the machine away from corrosive agents such

as garden chemicals and de-icing salts.• Secure the machine during transportion to prevent

damage or injury. Clean and examine the machinefor any damage.

11 TROUBLESHOOTING

Problem Possible Cause Solution

1. Cool the batterypack until its functionreturns to normal.

2. Cool the machine forapproximately 10 mi-nutes.

The battery packis disconnectedfrom the tool.

Install the battery packagain.

The battery packis depleted.

Charge the batterypack.

The linedoes notforward.

Lines are weldedto themselves.

Lubricate with siliconespray.

Not enough lineon spool.

Install more line.

Lines are worntoo short.

Advance the cuttingline.

2 IMPORTANTES MEDIDAS DESEGURIDAD

LEA TODAS LAS INSTRUCCIONES ANTES DEUTILIZAR ESTA HERRAMIENTA ELÉCTRICA

AVISOLea y comprenda todas las instrucciones antes deutilizar este producto. Si no se siguen todas lasinstrucciones que se indican a continuación, sepueden producir descargas eléctricas, incendios osituaciones que causen lesiones graves.

• Utilice solo piezas de repuesto y accesoriosidénticos del fabricante. El uso de cualquier otrapieza puede dar lugar a situaciones de peligro odañar el producto.

• Utilice siempre gafas de seguridad con pantallaslaterales que cumplan la norma ANSI Z87.1. Lasgafas de uso diario solo tienen unas lentesresistentes a los golpes. NO son gafas deseguridad. holgada ni lleve joyas, dado que podrían quedaratrapadas en las piezas móviles de la herramienta.Se recomienda utilizar unos guantes de goma y uncalzado grueso cuando trabaje en exteriores. Utiliceuna cubierta protectora para recogerse el pelo sitiene el cabello largo.

• Utilice el aparato apropiado. No utilice el aparatopara alguna otra finalidad distinta a la prevista.

• Evite el accionamiento accidental – No transporte elaparato con los dedos sobre el interruptor/gatillo.Asegúrese de que esté apagado antes de conectarla batería.

• No fuerce el aparato – Trabajará mejor y con unmenor riesgo de sufrir una lesión a la velocidad parala cual ha sido concebido.

• No adopte una postura forzada – Procure mantenerun buen equilibrio y un apoyo firme en todomomento.

• Manténgase alerta – Preste atención a lo que estáhaciendo. Utilice el sentido común. No utilice estaunidad eléctrica cuando esté cansado, enfermo o seencuentre bajo los efectos de drogas, alcohol ofármacos.

• Recargue la herramienta utilizando únicamente elcargador especificado por el fabricante. Uncargador que es adecuado para un tipo de bateríapodría ocasionar un incendio si se utiliza con otrotipo de batería. Utilice solamente el cargador2900802 o la serie CAF de Greenworks.

• Cuando no se esté utilizando la batería, manténgalaapartada de objetos metálicos tales como clips parapapeles, monedas, llaves, clavos, tornillos ocualquier otro objeto metálico pequeño que pudieraprovocar un cortocircuito en sus terminales decorriente. El cortocircuito de los terminales de labatería podría causar un incendio.

• En condiciones de uso intensivo, es posible que seproduzca una fuga del líquido de la batería. Evitetocarlo. En caso de contacto accidental, lave conagua. Si el líquido entra en contacto con los ojos,solicite atención médica. El líquido vertido por labatería puede causar irritación o quemaduras.

5 MANTENIMIENTO YREPARACIÓN

6 ELIMINACIÓN DE LA BATERÍADE MODO ECOLÓGICO

Los siguientes materiales tóxicos y corrosivos seencuentran en la batería utilizada por este aparato: Elión-litio es un material tóxico.

7 INSTALACIÓN

7.1 DESEMBALAR LA MÁQUINA

7.2 ACOPLE LA GUÍA DE BORDESImagen 2.

NOTALa guía de bordes puede limitar el alcance del cortede la máquina y reducir el riesgo de daños causadospor el hilo de corte en movimiento.

1. Presione la guía de bordes contra el cabezal decorte hasta que quede encajada en las ranuras.

2. La guía de bordes puede girarse hacia arriba parael almacenamiento.

7.3 MONTAJE DE LA CUBIERTAPROTECTORA

• La pila se envía cargada al 30%. Cargue la pilacompletamente antes de usar por primera vez.

1. Las protuberancias de la batería deben coincidir conlas ranuras del compartimento de la batería.

2. Empuje la batería para introducirla en elcompartimento hasta que quede correctamenteacoplada.

3. Cuando escuche un clic, la batería estará instalada.

8.5 AJUSTE DE LA LONGITUD DELHILO DE CORTE

NOTALa máquina dispone de un cabezal automático. Siintenta extender el hilo golpeando el cabezal, puededañar la máquina.

NOTASi el hilo de corte no sale automáticamente, es posibleque se haya enredado o el carrete esté vacío.

1. Deje de presionar el gatillo cuando la máquina estáencendida.

2. Espere dos segundos y vuelva a presionar el gatillo.

NOTACada vez que deje de pulsar del gatillo y vuelva apulsarlo, el hilo se extenderá unos 10 mm hasta quealcance la cuchilla cortahilos y corte el exceso de hilo.

8.6 AJUSTE MANUAL DE LALONGITUD DEL HILO DE CORTE

NOTALa máquina está ajustada para un corte de undiámetro de 12 in. (305 mm). El diámetro de cortepuede ser ajustado a 10 in. (254 mm).

Ajuste el diámetro de corte a 10 in. (254 mm) paramás revoluciones, o 12 in. (305 mm) para una mayorárea de corte.

1. Retire la batería.2. Quite los tornillos de la cuchilla cortahilos.3. Gire la cuchilla cortahilos 180°.4. Vuelva a apretar los tornillos de la cuchilla.

9 MANTENIMIENTO

IMPORTANTELea y comprenda las medidas de seguridad y lasinstrucciones de mantenimiento antes de llevar a cabotareas de mantenimiento, limpieza o reparación en lamáquina.

IMPORTANTEAsegúrese de que todas las tuercas, tornillos y pernosestén bien apretados. Revise regularmente que lasempuñaduras están bien instaladas y apretadas.

IMPORTANTEUtilice sólo piezas de repuesto y accesorios delfabricante original.

9.1 INFORMACIÓN GENERAL

IMPORTANTELos trabajos de mantenimiento que no se incluyen eneste manual sólo deben ser llevados a cabo por eldistribuidor o un servicio técnico autorizado.

Antes de efectuar una tarea de mantenimiento:

• Detenga la máquina.• Retire la batería.

• Espere a que el motor se enfríe.• Guarde la máquina en un lugar fresco y seco.• Utilice una indumentaria apropiada, guantes de

protección y gafas de seguridad.

9.2 LIMPIEZA DE LA MÁQUINA• Cuando termine de usar la máquina, límpiela con

una paño humedecido con un detergente neutral.• No utilice disolventes o detergentes fuertes para

limpiar las piezas de plástico o las empuñaduras.• Mantenga el cabezal de corte libre de hierbas, hojas

o acumulaciones de grasa.• Mantenga las ranuras de aire despejadas para

evitar el sobrecalentamiento y daños en el motor ola batería.

• No rocíe agua en el motor o los componenteseléctricos.

9.3 CÓMO REEMPLAZAR ELCARRETE

NOTAAsegúrese de que el hilo de corte pase por la ranuraguía del nuevo carrete y de extenderlo unos 13 cmantes de instalar el nuevo carrete.

5. Pase el extremo del hilo de corte por el ojal.6. Empuje las pestañas hacia dentro para instalar la

cubierta del carrete en la carcasa del carrete.7. Presione la cubierta del carrete hasta que encaje en

su lugar.

9.4 CÓMO CAMBIAR EL HILO DECORTE

NOTAQuite el hilo restante en el carrete.

NOTAUtilice solamente con un hilo de nailon de 0,065" (1,65mm) de diámetro.

1. Corte un trozo de hilo de corte de unos 3 m delongitud.

2. Tuerza el hilo a un 1/4 de pulgada (6,35 mm) deuno de sus extremos.

3. Inserte el hilo por el agujero de anclaje del carrete.4. Enrolle apretadamente el hilo de corte alrededor del

carrete en el sentido indicado.5. Pase el hilo de corte por la ranura guía.6. No enrolle el hilo de corte más allá del borde del

10 TRANSPORTE YCONSERVACIÓN

AVISORetire la batería de la máquina antes de transportarlay guardarla.

10.1 ALMACENAMIENTO DE LAMÁQUINA

• Retire la batería del aparato.• Asegúrese de que los niños no se acercan a la

máquina.• Mantenga la máquina alejada de sustancias

corrosivas, tales como los productos químicos parael tratamiento del jardín o las sales descongelantes.

• Asegure la máquina durante el transporte paraprevenir daños y lesiones. Limpie la máquina yexamínela en busca de daños.

LO QUE NO CUBRE LA GARANTÍA:

1. Cualquier pieza que no funcione debido al usoincorrecto, uso comercial, abusivo, negligencia,

2. La unidad, si no ha sido utilizada y/o mantenidasiguiendo el manual del propietario; o

3. El desgaste normal, excepto según se indica acontinuación.

4. Piezas que requieren un mantenimiento rutinariocomo lubricantes, afilar la cuchilla;

5. El deterioro normal del acabado exterior debido aluso o exposición.
