Our cover photograph for this edition shows Inverkeithny Kirk which lies in the
Deveron Valley between Turriff and Huntly. In 2009 the owners of the
building, The Church of Scotland General Trustees decided to dispose of it as it was
no longer used for regular worship. A group of locals approached Stewart &
Watson for advice on its acquisition and partner Gordon Hay assisted the group with the setting up of a Charitable Trust
funds to buy the building. The Trust, known as Inverkeithny Kirk Preservation
Trust, now owns the building and is responsible for its maintenance. Stewart & Watson’s senior partner, Gordon Hay
is the Secretary and Treasurer of the Trust. The Trustees hold events in the Church during the year and it is also available for weddings and funerals.
Situated in the village of Inverkeithny, in a beautiful corner of the Deveron Valley the Church enjoys a particularly idyllic

To Claim or Not To Claim that is The QuestionIn Scotland only a small proportion of those people injured in an accident that was someone else’s fault actually decide to instruct a solicitor and make a personal injury claim. Why is this?
Accidents at workMany people are put off claiming compensation for a work injury because they are worried about their job security. This should not be a factor in your decision, as it is against the law for an employer to dismiss an employee for making a personal injury claim. Along with job security, accident victims are often worried that making a work injury claim
they may be employed by a family member or a friend, particularly if it is a small business.

Power of Attorney
No one likes to think about a time when they may not be able to make their own decisions. Sadly the issues are likely to affect every family at some time and can arise at any time of life.
The issues are relevant to an estimated 100,000 adults in Scotland at any one time.
What is a Power of Attorney? A Power of Attorney is a written document whereby an individual appoints someone else to act on their behalf.
What does it do? It lets you say who you want to look after your affairs and what you want your attorney to be able to do for you if you are incapable of doing so for yourself.
Is a POA for older people? No! Whilst we take a special interest in assisting the older generation, POA are by no means only for the elderly. Anyone at any time may benefit from the protection a POA offers if something unforeseen occurs.
