• Check the wrapper type & quality • Check the marking on bearing- basic designation, suffix/prefix and batch no. e.g.

Marking on spherical roller bearing 22228 with taper bore and C3 clearance could be “SKF 22228 CCK/C3 W33 Country of origin batch code”

• Check Marking pattern on bearing according to bearing type:

Deep groove ball bearing: Outer ring face and outer ring outer dia for small DGBB Taper roller bearing: On the face of both rings Cylindrical roller bearing: On the face of the inner and outer ring Spherical Roller bearing: On the outer ring face Self-aligning ball bearing: Outer ring face Angular contact bearing: Outer ring face Seize resistance bearing: inner ring face

• Check bearing design, cage design and rolling element side faces • Check surface finish/appearance of bearing rings, cage and rolling elements • Do not forget to smell the oil coat of the bearing, if present
