Many verbs in Spanish can be used with a reflexive pronoun. In some cases, the pronoun changes the verb’s meaning:
María pone la blusa en la mochila.Mary puts the blouse in the
backpack.María se pone la blusa.
María puts on the blouse.
María duerme ocho horas.Mary sleeps 8 hours.
María se duerme enseguida.Mary falls asleep immediately.
Many verbs in Spanish can be used with a reflexive pronoun. In some cases, the pronoun changes the verb’s meaning:
María llama a Carlos.Mary calls Carlos.
Ella se llama María.She calls herself Mary. (Her name is Mary.)
María divierte a sus amigos.Mary entertains her friends.
María se divierte.Mary amuses herself. (Mary has a
good time).
