Dressed in the dark blue uniforms of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, five soldiers gathered on stage and reenacted a prayer the night before the unit’s historic assault on Fort Wagner. A visit from the General

Hero of the Month

Major General Cannon, a Michigan native, took time out of his busy schedule to visit and dine with the members of TF 1-182 this February. The commander of the 46th MP Group sat with Soldiers to chat and even deliver some coins. Major General Cannon also was able to visit our sister Michigan battalion, TF 1/119th, in Camp Virginia.

SPC Matthews

SPC Matthews received the honor of being named Hero of the Month for January. SPC Matthews, after spending many hours outside of the normal duty day, noticed several M1151 HMMWVs having continued alternator problems after their 200 to 400 amp upgrade. SPC Matthews diagnosed the original mechanics who installed the alternators used the incorrect torque sequence causing significant strain on the entire M1151 pulley and electrical system. SPC Matthew’s initiative and diligence in finding this installation error saved our Maintenance Section countless hours repairing several dozen alternators and saved the US Army an estimated $21,000 to date in repair parts and labor costs. SPC Matthew’s effort on this project is in keeping with the finest traditions of excellence within our Task Force and the United States Army.

SPC Sanville jumps boat to boat to help deliver medical aid

Exercise, exercise, exercise!

TF 1-182 was pleased to participate in a joint offshore exercise that began with the Army Boats and concluded with the assistance of the Navy’s PT Boats, the Coast Guard’s skiffs, Army and Navy MEDEVAC helicopters and finally TF 1-182 medics. The scenario: USAV (United States Army Vessel) Five Forks and Churubusco received contact from an unknown small naval vessel while in international waters. The small unknown naval vessel was played by a Navy PT Boat with tan camo-netting on it. Upon initial contact, Navy PT Boats and Coast Guard skiffs are dispatched with TF 1-182 medics to assist the wounded. During the firefight both the USAV Churubusco and Five Forks take casualties and the Five Forks lost a man overboard, simulated with a red flotation suit. The Soldier overboard is rescued by the crew of USAV Churubusco. SPC Sanville, on one of the Navy PT boats, makes a daring boat-to-boat jump to assist with the casualties on the USAV Churubusco. After analyzing the patients, the critically injured on both boats are evacuated to the TF 1-182 Troop Medical Care center via helicopter on both Army and Naval MEDEVAC (medical evacuation) helicopters.

The NFL Alumni Tour with the Buffalo JIlls

In the build-up to the Super Bowl, Camp Patriot was blessed with not one, but two different tours involving NFL stars. This tour included the alumni greats: Ed White, Lyle Blackwood, Ken Greene and Ray Carolin. A special treat was given to Camp Patriot with a performance by the Buffalo Jills cheerleading team. As apart of their act, the Jills also had a “dance off” competition involving our Soldiers and Sailors.

The NFL Super Sunday Tour

Our second tour featured Drew Bennett, Madieu Williams, and two time SuperBowl winner Daniel Graham, with two Denver Bronco cheerleaders. The visit included a trip to the Naval Special Warfare unit on base, which let the stars experience and test the equipment they had, including a bomb-diffusing robot and the “bomb suit”.
