5.1 Finite elements for linear beam theory 1

Structural system:

Displacements only in the drawing plane

Exercise:

Set up the global stiffness matrix K and the global load vector p .

5.2 Finite elements for linear beam theory 2

Structural system:

Displacements only in the drawing plane

Exercise:

Set up the equation system K v p⋅ = (1st order theory).

5.3 Finite elements for linear beam theory 3

Structural system:

The Following displacements (theory 1st order) are given at the end of the cantilever beam:

wM = 4,98 φy = - 0,0241 ϑ = 0,0415 (-ϑ') = - 0,000139

Exercise:

a) Determine the internal forces acting on the support, with help of the given

displacements. For the calculation use a finite element for a linear calculation.

b) Calculate the acting forces Fz and MxL.

c) How do the internal forces change if instead of a circular hollow section a

I-section would be used?
