1. Collect a handful of pieces that you may want to use on your key. You will want more than you need, so that you have a variety to work with. Pick out two or three pieces that will be the focus of your piece and set those aside. 2. Start working from one end of the key and build to the other, gluing one piece at a time to the key with E6000 adhe- sive. (PHOTO A) Attach larger pieces first, as the smaller ones will be “buried” if they are glued on first. If your pieces exceed the size of the key, use shears to cut them down to keep the integrity of the key shape. Unlock your junk drawer to create a steampunk look that is quick and easy. There is no right or wrong in this project, just creativity. Build multiple layers to create dimension, and add beads for color, or vintage stampings to tell a story. This is a great way to use up those left-over pieces that have been piling up in the back of the drawer.

Slip onto the key at the top and cinch the wires. (PHOTO E)

Holding the key and wire firmly in your hand, bring the front wire around the back wire and coil a few times. (PHOTO F)

Trim with a pair of flush cutters. (PHOTO G)

6. With the remaining wire, make a loop using round nose liers. (PHOTO H)

I like to use larger pieces at the top and smaller pieces near the teeth of the key. File any sharp edges with a metal file.

3. Adhere the focal pieces on the top layer in key places to allow them to stand out. (PHOTO C)

4. Allow the glue to dry completely.

5. Create a bail for the pendant by bending a piece of 18ga copper wire in half, into a tight “U” shape. (PHOTO D)
