REFUNDS Refunds will only be given for classes canceled due to insufficient enrollment. Credit will be issued for an illness when it results in the loss of class days and is supported by a doctor’s note. Fees will not be prorated for classes missed without medical documentation. Memberships can be placed on a medical hold when supported by a doctor’s note. Every effort will be made to make up classes that are canceled due to inclement weather and emergency situations.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCEAt the Y, we believe our community will grow stronger when everyone has the opportunity to live healthier. That’s why the Y welcomes people of all ages, races, ethnicities, religions, abilities and financial circumstances. Our programs embrace diversity and reflect the needs of our community. We offer scholarships through our Financial Assistance Program. Financial assistance applications for membership and programs are available at the Front Desk. Please fully complete the application and return it with all required documentation; incomplete applications will not be processed. The approval process takes four to six weeks. Please allow ample time when applying.

GUEST POLICYAll guests must show a picture ID. Guest Fee $20: Adult, $10: Youth. All in-town guests must be with an adult Staunton-Augusta Family Y member and pay the guest fee for each visit. Out-of-town guests without a member may visit two times per year and pay the $25 Guest Fee for each visit. Out-of-town guests with an adult Staunton-Augusta Family Y member may visit four times/month for free. Guests who present a photo ID and belong to a participating YMCA AWAY program, or who are on active military duty (must present military ID) may visit free four times/month. The purpose behind our guest policy is to enhance member services to current members who are encouraging a friend to join and to make reasonable accommodations for members of other YMCAs traveling in our area, out-of-town family of current members and other out-of-town visitors.

BABYSITTING TRAINING COURSERecommended for those ages 11 to 15, this course is designed to help participants develop leadership skills, build their business, help keep themselves and others safe, help children learn how to behave, and learn basic child care and basic first aid. During your training, you will earn your First Aid and CPR/AED certifications (good for two years), which can help you learn how to provide care during an emergency.

Special event for middle school students only. Second Saturday each month. Kids can socialize, make new friends and participate in a number of fun activities such as swimming, dodgeball, basketball and the Teen Center. A developmental program designed to help middle school

volleyball athletes learn and improve on the fundamentals of the

sport.

The program includes a weekly 75-minute practice (time and day

determined by coach) and a game on Saturdays. The practices are

dedicated to helping volleyball players improve their individual

skill sets. The games are intended to help players practice

sportsmanship and learn in-game strategy.

Volleyball coordinator Priscilla Jenkins is also seeking

experienced volleyball players to help teach the younger players.

Sign-ups begin on August 20 and extend through September 7.

CHILD WATCH/PLAYROOM Ages 3 months - 11 You don’t have to worry about your children wanting to come to the YMCA while you work out. In fact, you may get tired of them asking you to take them to the YMCA’s Child Watch area, open to children ages 3 months through 11 years. You can leave them in good hands and let them experience fun the Y’s way. Our playroom offers a wide variety of activities including a 20-foot high Play Place. All staff is trained in Infant/Child CPR/AED/First Aid. See monthly schedule for open times. REACH & RISE © GROUP MENTORINGWhat? Our therapeutic group mentoring program matches 6 youth with 2 adult mentors. Groups focus on building communication skills, addressing bullying and managing stress in positive ways.

When? Fall groups begin September 4th through December 17th for 16 weeks. Groups meet once a week for 2 hours at a mutually set time.

SWIM LESSONS

PARENT & CHILD Ages 6 mo.-2 yearsInfants & Toddlers w/ParentsSpecifically designed for infants and toddlers with their parent. Lessons introduce parent/child teams to the aquatic environment through water exploration with songs, games and rudimentary propulsive movements. Emphasis is placed on basic safety and enjoyable experiences for both parents and children.

STRONG SWIMMERSGroup Lessons:

Swim Lesson Important Information:• Registration must be done in person with payment during the registration window. (see above dates)• Please register on waitlist if a class is full. Additional classes may be added at any time (including daytime) as space/instructors are

available; based on four or more swimmers.• A 10% discount is given for siblings in the same session. The aquatics coordinator has the right to ask classes with not enough participants

to combine with another at a different time, or if that is not possible, they have the right to cancel a class and offer a refund/system credit. • A minimum of four students (six for parent/child class) is required to hold class. • If you are new to our program and your child had some existing swim skills, please fill out a FREE Swim Evaluation Request form at the

Front Desk. An instructor will assess their skills for proper class placement. Registration for classes beyond Pike and Polliwog level are restricted to returning students, or new students who have completed a skills evaluation. Please submit your evaluation form one week before it is needed for class registration.

• If a student is registered for a class inappropriate to his or her skill level, the swimmer will be moved if space allows, or given a credit toward future lessons. No refunds are given once a session has started, unless approved by the aquatics coordinator.

PARENT & CHILD II Ages 2-3 years Designed to build on basic introductory skills covered in Parent/Child I, such as safety skills and the beginnings of propulsive movement. Parent/Child II is recommended for Parent/Child pairs who have already taken our Parent/Child I class and are looking for more skill development. This class is also recommended for Parent/Child pairs whose children may not meet the height/age requirements at the start of our Pike Level class.

ACAST SWIM TEAM:The Staunton-Augusta YMCA will continue to host and facilitate the ACAST (Augusta County Amberjax Swim Team). ACAST is dedicated to providing an enriching swim team experience, geared towards both the novice and experienced swimmer. Prospective swimmers need only attend one evening during tryouts. Registration and payment is due on the tryout date. All swimmers must be proficient enough to swim at least 25m without stopping in at least two competitive strokes (namely freestyle and backstroke). Older/Experienced swimmers may be asked to swim 300m to determine appropriate level placement, as well as to demonstrate proficiency in all four competitive strokes for 50m each.

EQUIPMENT ORIENTATIONSOne of our fitness attendants will develop and guide you through a general fitness routine on all of the weight machines. Follow-up orientations may be scheduled after your first appointment. The follow-up orientation will review workouts and make adjustments to exercise routines as needed. We recommend two appointments for beginners. Appointments can be made at the Front Desk (ages 15+).

NEURO- WELLNESS CLASSThis class is designed for stroke survivors and those who suffer from Parkinson’s and other neuro-related conditions. This class helps participants stay active. DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAMWith the support of the Augusta County Lion’s Club, we have partnered with Augusta Health to provide this program to prevent Type 2 Diabetes. Pre-diabetes is a serious condition affecting one out of every three American adults. The first step is take a quick test to gauge your level of personal risk. The year-long class meets in the Multi-Purpose room. Class participants receive a year-long program and a

lifestyle coach for the year. The quiz is available at the Front Desk.

ROCK STEADY BOXINGRSB enables people with Parkinson’s to fight their disease by providing non-contact boxing style fitness programs that improve their quality of life and sense of efficacy and self-worth. Taught by certified Rock Steady Boxing coaches, these classes have proven that anyone, at any level of Parkinson’s, can actually lessen their symptoms and lead a healthier/happier life. Classes are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10:00 am-11:30 am.*Any new participant to Rock Steady Boxing must first meet with a coach to schedule an initial assessment. See Wendy for scheduling. Participants enjoy the company of other adults, the support of a nursing staff, group exercise classes, walking, swimming and The Wellness Center. In 1844, 22 year-old George Williams founded the first Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), a refuge of Bible study and prayer for young men seeking escape from the hazards of life on the streets of London.

The Staunton Y carries on the tradition of non-denominational Bible study that is free and open to the public every Monday morning at 9:00 am in the Multi-Purpose Room. Bring your Bible and a friend. This hour-long study is led by YMCA Volunteer Lay Chaplain Allen Jones.
