Una poltrona per due? Assolutamente no,

piuttosto uno yacht al quadrato, o meglio, con

maggior attualità, uno yacht 2.0. Questa è la

sorprendente invenzione realizzata dagli studi di design

di Frank Mulder e di Tommaso Spadolini con 2 Ladies, il

46 metri per quattro ponti varato dal cantiere viareggino

Rossinavi. «Il nome spiega il concept del progetto»,

dice Frank Mulder, artefice dell’exterior design, del

primo layout e dell’ingegneria generale, «2 Ladies nasce

per due armatori che, con le loro signore, si sarebbero

trovati a bordo contemporaneamente. Quindi si doveva

conferire esattamente pari importanza a entrambi, senza

sacrificare nulla delle rispettive privacy e comfort, ma

anzi duplicando il tutto. Lo yacht è stato allora disegnato

per avere due suite padronali di uguali dimensioni, una

sul main deck e l’altra su quello superiore. A quel punto

la maggior parte dello sforzo è consistito nel ricavare il

massimo volume possibile nei ponti. Si consideri che

parliamo di un 46 metri. Ci siamo pertanto concentrati

non solo sugli spazi degli ambienti interni, ma anche

di ogni area di coperta, affinché non venisse sacrificato

nulla in termini di capienza, ma anzi che ogni zona

venisse valorizzata. Inoltre, è prevista la possibilità

dell’utilizzo anche come charter. Ne è conseguita

la necessità di spazi per un equipaggio abbastanza

numeroso in quanto 2 Ladies ha range transoceanici: una

prova difficile che si è trasformata in un successo».

I profili esterni appaiono compatti e rassicuranti, con

proporzioni bilanciate da cui sono escluse velleità di

slanci superflui; un certo rigore formale che ben si confà

a uno yacht per navigazioni blue-water, qua e là, tuttavia,

vezzeggiato dalle diverse colorazioni di scafo, fasce e

parapetti poppieri, il tutto teso a valorizzarne ogni linea.

Le vetrate rimangono incorniciate in sezioni simmetriche,

i terrazzi con pozzetti e salottini si moltiplicano in ogni

livello da prua a poppa, il sundeck con piscina Jacuzzi e

sun-area è protetto all’interno di una struttura a veranda,

mentre il beach club si apre nel livello inferiore dove il

garage ospita un tender da 8,20 metri.

L’architetto Tommaso Spadolini, che si è occupato

degli interni, svela un retroscena del design: «A lavoro

iniziato è stato deciso di aggiungere un ascensore che

salisse su tutti i ponti, compreso il sundeck. Si è trattato

di un intervento in corso d’opera, ma noi abbiamo

vissuto questo inserimento come una sfida, decidendo

che scala e ascensore divenissero un unico elemento

decorativo e predominante di tutto il design concept.

L’ascensore è racchiuso in una colonna di vetro, che a

sua volta entra nel corpo di vetro più grande del ponte

sole, ottenendo un effetto magnifico. Grazie all’originale

impostazione iniziale di Frank Mulder, con il quale

2 ladiesUn 46 metri con due suite armatoriali,

You may have heard of a bicycle built for two but you probably haven’t heard of a yacht built for two. And yet that is exactly what Frank Mulder, Tommaso Spadolini and Rossinavi have created in

2 Ladies, the 46-metre, four-deck that splashed recently at Viareggio. “The 2 Ladies’ name explains the concept behind the project,” says Frank Mulder, the man responsible for the yacht’s exterior design, first layout and engineering. “2 Ladies was designed for two owners who, along with their wives, plan to spend time aboard together. This meant we had to give equal importance to both without losing any privacy or comfort.

We actually had to duplicate everything. So 2 Ladies had to be designed to have two master suites of the same size – one on the main deck and the other on the upper deck. At that point, the biggest challenge was to get the largest volumes we could out of the decks. And we were talking about a 46-metre, so we concentrated not just on the interior spaces but also every bit of deck so that the very most was made of every single area. We also designed 2 Ladies to allow her to be used for chartering; that involved including enough room for quite a large crew as she has an ocean range. It was a tough test but we turned it into a success.”

2 Ladies has a compact, reassuring profile with nicely balanced pro-portions unspoilt by over-the-top rakes. She has a certain formal rigor that well suits her blue-water cruiser vocation. her windows are symme-trically framed while terraces, cockpits and lounges are dotted around from stem to stern on all her decks. There’s a Jacuzzi and a sunning area on the sun deck, while the beach club opens out from the garage on the lower deck, which is also home to an 8.2-metre tender. Architect Tommaso Spadolini, who created 2 Ladies’ interiors, spoke to us about the background of the design: “After work had begun, the decision was made to put in a lift going to all the decks, sun deck included. This was something we had to do in mid-flow but we looked on it as a challenge and decided to turn the stairs and the lift into a single decorative element that would dominate the entire design concept. The lift is enclosed in a glass tube which itself is enclosed in the larger glass structure of the sun deck. The effect is magnificent. Thanks to Frank Mulder’s original layout which we used to develop the definitive arrangement, we were able to include everything you’d hope to find aboard a 55- or 60-metre yacht that comes in at under 500 tons. 2 Ladies even has her own TechnoGym-equipped gym, beach area, sauna and wellness centre, a lift going all the way up to the fly bridge, laundry and ironing area, a direct stem to stern corridor on the lower service deck, and crew cabins that meet MCA requirements. All of that plus two owners’ suites, four guest staterooms, two saloons, a dining room, a captain’s cabin beside the main bridge and a second tender forward.” Meticulous work went into the lower deck too. The main saloon has a wonderfully contemporary Italian stylishness thanks to the use of versatile fabrics from Armani Casa which work beautifully with the bright skins supplied by the Gruppo Mastrotto and leathers by Cuoioarreda which are put to very inventive use on the surface tops and even floors. Whites, creams and browns mix with modern forms and curved lines while the lighting comes courtesy of the likes of Cantalupi, promotech, Lumis, Contardi and Flos. It too is used very effectively to lend a natural

Sottocoperta il lavoro di allestimento è stato minuzioso.

Il salone principale esibisce un design italiano

contemporaneo interpretato dai versatili tessuti Armani

Casa, a loro volta in dialogo coi luminosi pellami del

Gruppo Mastrotto e i cuoi di Cuoioarreda utilizzati

in modo originale sui top dei mobili e anche sui

pavimenti. Bianchi, creme e marroni si miscelano alle

forme moderne e alle linee curve, mentre il sistema

d’illuminazione affidato, a seconda dei casi, a Cantalupi,

promotech, Lumis, Contardi e Flos, incornicia i mobili

poltrona Frau velandoli di minimalismo naturale, mentre

le poltrone arrotondate, i grandi divani, i cuscini miele e

cioccolato interrompono la tappezzeria chiara.

«Senza dubbio la soluzione dell’ascensore è stata un

momento importante e spettacolare dell’allestimento»,

sottolinea l’architetto Spadolini. «Nel salone si erge

proprio la scala circolare a vista con l’ascensore,

accessibile anche a portatori di handicap, in vetro. I

rivestimenti di vetro, ebano, acciaio inox e travertino che

compongono la scala rendono l’effetto molto teatrale,

ma al contempo lo si è reso anche delicato, quasi

evanescente. Merito del design che permette alla luce

di passare attraverso questo elemento aggiungendosi

minimalist elan to the poltrona Frau furnishings while honey and chocolate cushions warm up the cool white upholstery of the tub armchairs and big plush sofas. “There is no doubt that the lift was an important and even spectacular turning point in the project,” says Spadolini. “The exposed circular stairs with its embedded wheelchair-friendly glass lift circular staircase dominates the saloon. Glass, ebony, stainless steel and travertine trim on the stairs create a delightfully theatrical effect yet still make give it a sense of almost evanescent delicacy. That’s thanks to the design which allows light to pass through the stairs/lift thereby enhancing the sensation of space and luxury in the saloon.” In the dining room the furnishings have that same pared back modern feeling. The eight dining chairs have a light slender structure and sit around an elegant black table. The surrounding colours soften the effect – the large planked dark wood floor is lifted by a single-colour geometric rug too. 2 Ladies has accommodation for 12 guest as well as her crew. The two master suites are set across the beam and dominated by king-size beds.

Each one of the suites also has a large lounge area, a writing area and a walk-in closet. The design is rich and modern yet has a light touch so it’s never overwhelming, thanks in part to a natural colour palette of black, white and various shades of grey. Even the bathrooms have that same linear look and feel to them, albeit softened by Exquisite marble and wood trim by LpE of Cascina. The owners didn’t hold back on on-board entertainment either with a 60-inch television, state-of-the-art stereo systems with ipod docking stations and domoti-cs provided by Videoworks. The cherry on the cake is that with her range of 4,500 nauti-cal miles, 2 Ladies guarantees an absolutely unparalleled and exclusive non-stop cruising experience – of the kind that would make a round the world trip very tempting indeed. •

L’alloggio è previsto per 12 ospiti, oltre all’equipaggio. Nelle due master, disposte per baglio, troneggia il letto king-size, mentre ogni appartamento si declina nella grande sala adiacente, dall’area scrivania fino alla cabina armadio. Il design è ricco, moderno e lieve, in colori naturali, dal nero al bianco passando per sfumature di grigio, e anche le sale da bagno ne rispecchiano l’atmosfera lineare, addolcite da marmi Exquisite con rifiniture in legno, opera di LpE di Cascina. Non si è lesinato nell’entertainment, con Tv da 60 pollici, impianti stereo con docking station per ipod e la domotica progettata da Videoworks. Con un’autonomia di 4.500 miglia, 2 Ladies garantisce crociere non-stop al top. Un invito a

compiere il giro del mondo. •
