AR-06-06 Task definition

• Request input from system operators and data users (GEO members or participating organizations) regarding their experience on interoperability (including the metadata).

• Compile list of current DEM data and its specifications.• Based on the above results, develop the first "GEOSS

Interoperability Guidance on DEM data"

Page 3: Status Report GEO Task AR-06-06 Interoperability among Digital Elevation Model (DEM) Ryosuke Shibasaki.

Deliverable outputs

• GEOSS Interoperability Guidance on DEM data.

Member Contacts

• 7 active members– Australia, China, Italy, Germany (ISPRS),

Japan, USA (OGC)– Communication via e-mail.

Steps Compile list of existing DEM products.

Focusing specs. and underlying standards.

Expected results and recommendations.•Format issues:

•DEM product format are so diversified.•However, not too difficult to convert one data format to the other.

•Not very necessary to standardize data format.•But desirable to promote the standardization of service interface for DEM data delivery.

•Quality:•To be explicitly described, if any quality associated information available.

•Coordinate Reference System:•To be explicitly stated so that the CRS conversion can be made more easily.

•Metadata standard:•Need to promote convergence. One candidate would be ISO19115 metadata.
