STATUS OF THE STUDY OF THE SPARKLOCALIZATION IN 3.3 BAR ARGON

Thewideanglewebcamisoperational.Thetwopre-seriesLEMsCFR-34A001&&A002+anode+driftelectricfield wereoperatedatDV>3200Vwithacontinuousvideorecordingofsparks.Analysiswasdonebya“manual”(tedious!)scanofthecamerarecordingswiththehelpofthetimestampstakenfromtheLEMcurrentmonitoringLabview files.

ThefreewareVideoSurveillancesoftwareContaCam iscurrentlytestedtodetectandselectivelyrecordthesparkingeventsandeasethedataanalysis.

NextstepisthestudyofsparklocalizationwithCFR-35andCFR-36.

SparksaremoreoftenobservedclosetothebordersandcornersandnotparticularlyinthevicinityoftheLEM-Anodespacers,norHVconnections.

Sparksoccuring closetocornersandbordersoftentriggersequencesofsparksevery10-30secondsduringupto2-3minutesinthevicinityoftheoriginalspark,sometimesleadingtothetripofthepowersupply (settodosoiftheLEMcurrentisabove2µs for50s).Thisdoesnothappenforsparkslocalizedawayfromborders.

Anodegerber files(CERN-1359)werevalidatedinjune 2017fortheorderbyETHZof80anodestoELTOS.Technicalspecifications(gerber files,PCBstack,QA/QC)werefixedtocopewithbothELTOSandELVIArequirements.Q/CbythemanufacturerarestandardonesdrivenbytheIPCA-6002(includingA.O.Iandelectricalcontinuitymeasurements).Q/CofKELsolderingconnectionsisdonebyWA105thankstothetestbenchprovidedbyCEA/Irfu.

WeaddtwoQCrequeststothemanufacturers:measurementoftheanodedimensionswhichshouldbe499.5-0/+0.1mm:to

preventthecuttingofactivestripswhicharelocatedat60µmfromthebordersandtocopewiththemechanicaltolerancesoftheanodeintegrationontheCRP

measurementofthedeflectionoftheanodeinthecentertobelessthan1mm

Wehavethequotations(Anode+KELconnectorsoldering)ofbothELVIAandELTOS.Offersarewithin10%.Delaysare30-41workingdays(for40anodes).

WewillgetthequotationfromtheOUESTRONIC(France)companynextweek.

Weplantoplaceanorderfor40anodesbytheendofthemonthforadeliverybyendofapril.Asecondorderof40LEMswillbeplacedmidmarch.

TotalLEMthicknessismeasuredonthe4cornersoftheLEMandon2metallographicsectionsbytheLEMmanufacturer.InordertocheckLEMthicknessuniformity,wearetuninganopticaltestbenchforthescanof25x3cm2 locationsovertheLEMsurface.

LEMisflattenedonanopticaltablewithastainlesssteelplate.TheopticalbeamreflectionsthroughtheLEMholes,ontheLEMtopcoppersurfaceandontheLEMtopFR4surfaceareusedtoderivethereferenceopticaltablesurfaceelevation,thetotalLEMthicknessandtheLEMtopcopperlayerthickness.FirsttestsweredonewithaLEMprototype.

WewillselectnextweekaPCBmanufacturertoplaceanorderfor40anodes(+KELconnectorsoldering)whichshouldbedeliveredbytheendofapril.

AnopticaltestbenchisunderdevelopmentforLEMthicknessmeasurementsandcouldbeusedtochecktheLEMthicknessuniformityofthenextproducedLEMs.
