Before, the source for studies based on businesses is The General Census of Industry and Establishments (last in 2002).

Statistics Law entered into force in 10/11/2005 to comply with the EU regulations and national needs.

This law re-organized the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).

Setting up New Statistical System of Turkey and Business Register (BR), main data source is tax offices (Revenue Administration) since 2006.

• GEOGRAPHICAL SCOPE: Whole Turkey

• ACTIVITY SCOPE: Except from agriculture, hunting and forestry; fishing; public administration and defense; compulsory social security sector (to be included by 25 March of 2013), BR covers whole sector and geographically whole Turkey according to NACE Rev. 2

• ECONOMIC SCOPE: All enterprises that contribute to the Gross Domestic Product, their local units and legal units that make up these enterprises and enterprise groups
