Ebrahimi Center of Excel lence on Appli ed Electr omagne tic Systems School of Electrical and Computer Engineering University College of Engineering University of Tehran Tehran, Iran AbstractA no-load induction moto r und er static ecc en tricit y is modeled using time stepping finite element (TSFE) method; current, torque, and speed signals of the motor are obtained by finite element method (FEM) and used for sta tic ecc en tric ity fault diagno sis and analy si s. The freque ncy spectrum anal ys is of the stator curren t around fundamental frequency component is used to predict the static eccen tricit y. Noise, unbala nced magnetic pull (UMP) and arc occur during the starting of the faulty motor, therefore, performance of the motor over the period of starting up to the steady-state is investigated. It is sh own that the ra te of obta ined si gnals from the constant permeability based analysis is very larger than that of the real case. It is indicated that in order to obtain accurate results the saturation mus t b e taken into account in the analysis of the motor. Simulation results for a 3hp, three-phase, 230 V, 36 sta tor slots induc tion motor with 28 rotor slots are giv en in thi s paper. Expe rimen tal resul ts for the motor confirm the simulation results very well. 1. INTRODUCTION Nowada ys induct ion moto rs are widely use d as the mos t common variable speed driv e. The reasons are high reliabilit y , high efficienc y and good perf ormance of the moto r. Performance of a faulty motor disturbs the operation of the motor and also sho rtens its lif etime. Hence, diagnosis and detection of the faults make it possible to improve the perfo rma nce of the moto r and enla rge its life time [1].
