Wall System

Traxx is a unique horizontal railsystem that attaches to existingarchitecture, allowing free, off-moduleplacement of Kimball components.Place storage, worksurfaces, tilesand panels wherever you need them.

Upper Traxx can be mounted to correspond with appropriate panelheights or at 80"H for conferenceroom applications.

Traxx can be mounted to most inte-rior walls, including steel or wood studwalls, masonry block, or solidmasonry walls.

Tiles mount be tween upper andlower Traxx to add functionality to theworkspace.

Overhead storage can be mountedto upper Traxx.

Worksurfaces can be mounted tolower Traxx. Fabric and standard markerboard

tiles can be scribed in the field tomeet individual requirements.

Details

Traxx is available in lengths of 72"and 144", and can be scribed in thefield. Traxx models include:• Two Traxx (72" or 144")• Four splice plates

Tiles are available in fabric, slat, ormarkerboard models. Fabric andstandard markerboard tiles can bescribed in the field. Tile modelsinclude:• Tile• Two trim channels

Markerboard tiles add conven ient,erasable writing space and are idealfor offices, training rooms, and confer-ence areas. Available in laminate ormagnetic porcelain.

Slat tiles offer flexibility in placementof work tools. Selecting the slat tilewith fabric above is an economicalalternative when overhead storage willbe used.

Two trim channels, standard witheach tile, provide an expansion joint,wire manager attachment, and com-pensate for out-of-plumb walls. Addi-tional trim channels are available, ifrequired, for tiles that have beenscribed in the field.

Connections

Traxx are mounted horizontallypermitting complete tie-in to all studs.

No additional blocking is requiredto support Traxx, if walls are designedand built to specifications outlined.➤See page 4.5 for application guidelines.

Fastener concealment is used toconceal splice plates and fasteners. It does not interfere with mountedcomponents and does not require anyadditional tools for installation. Fas-tener concealment is available in vinylor felt. Vinyl must be specified whenusing presentation tools.

Splice plates are required to aligntwo sections of Traxx in-line or whenturning corners. They are easily modi-fied in the field to accommodateangles or corners.

Planning Factors

Traxx can be mounted at any height ifnot corresponding to other products. ➤See page 4.5 for mounting heights tocorrespond to panel applications.

To custom paint Traxx in the field,specify 480 Antique White. Scheduledelivery to precede the rest of theorder to provide time for painting.Traxx should be lightly sanded beforepainting. Enamel based paints arerecommended.

Traxx and tiles, excluding porcelainmarkerboard) can be scribed in thefield to the desired size.

Determine proper position of Traxxusing centerline of lower Traxx as areference point.

Actual mounting height can be variedto meet specific needs; however, undersurface storage heightmust be considered.

Variations in the floor surface (peaksand valleys) should be considered,especially where horizontal placementis critical.

Traxx extends 3⁄4" from the wall. This dimensional loss should be con-sidered when space planning forcomponents, when Traxx are beingused on 2 or more walls of a space.

When planning components for theentire length of the wall, total length ofstorage components should be a min-imum of 11⁄2" less than the total lengthof the wall. Filler panels may be specified to fill any remaining space.

Select worksurfaces and tiles can befield scribed to fit space.

In fixed wall Traxx applications,choose your tile height based on yourspecific application. Consider theheight of the cabinet and clearancebetween the bottom of the overheadand the worksurface.

Recommended Fasteners:

Fasteners must tie in directly to thesubstructure of a structural wall forproper attachment of Traxx. Kimballdefines a structural wall as a loadbear-ing wall constructed of materials such as poured concrete,concrete block, or studs.

Selection and purchase of the properattachment fasteners for your wallconditions is the responsibility of theinstaller.

Minimum Requirements:

• Wood studs must be nominal 2" x 4" minimum.

• Metal studs must be “C” channel,20 gauge minimum thickness.

• Metal or wood studs must be oncenters no greater than 24" andhave a maximum height of 14'restrained at floor and ceiling.

• Interior walls must be designed toresist not less than a force of 5 lbs.per sq. ft. applied perpen di cular tothe wall. The deflection of such wallsunder a load of 5 lbs. per squarefoot shall not exceed 1⁄240 of thespan for walls with brittle finishesand 1⁄120 of the span for walls withflexible finishes (per InternationalBuilding Code sections 1604.4 and1607.13).

• Traxx may not extend more than 6"beyond the last solid attachmentpoint.

• Minimum width of Traxx that can beattached to a wall is 16" mounted tostuds 16" apart.

• If an overhead is being mounted, theminimum width for Traxx is 24" withthe Traxx being centered on studs16" apart, so as not to extend morethan 6" beyond the last solid attachment point.
