The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection in conjunction with the Connecticut Fire Academy are hosting a Public Fire amp Life Safety Educator Conference on August 24 2017 We are planning a full day event with multiple presentations from Fire Prevention and Educational experts from both state and national organizations The event will begin at 800 with presentations starting at 900 Some highlights include Meri K Appy from the Vision 20 20 project talking about effective safety messages a side-by-side sprinkler demonstration from the CT Fire Sprinkler Coalition an

overview of the American Red Crossrsquos Smoke Detector and Home Safety Inspection program and many more The cost for the day is $2500 and attendees will qualify for 5 frac12 CEUrsquos of Fire Marshal credits A brochure outlining the entire program is attached Hope to see you there ----------

5 New Haven Fire Department Tiller Bucket Dedication Ceremony for FF Thomas Kelly (Ret)

New Haven Fire Department will host a dedication for FF Thomas Kelly (Ret) on Saturday July 15 2017 at the New Haven Regional Fire Training Academy at approximately 1000 am FF Kelly was severely injured in the line of duty on February 26 1992 The department will be dedicating his tiller bucket that is located outside of the main entrance of the training facility For more details pertaining to the event please refer to the attachment

6 Rescue Technician ndash Trench Rocky Hill

August 5 6 12 13 19 and 20 with Practical Exam on the 27th

This program will train the students to perform technician level trench rescue The training objectives meet NFPA 1006 and OSHA 1926 Students will evaluate trenches and soil conditions will learn to shore unprotected straight and intersecting trenches with both community and pneumatic shoring They will also use supplemental shoring when needed Students develop an action plan to manage and remove a victim from a trench accident The PPE requirements are a protective helmet footwear gloves eye protection and work clothes Training prerequisites Rescue Technician Core and Hazardous Materials Operational proof must be submitted with the application Certification Examination Prerequisite Rescue Technician Core and a minimum of EMR certification proof must be submitted with the application For certification to this level an additional practical skills examination of one or two days plus a written test is required Certification testing time requires additional dates for certification written and practical exam Class Hours 48

5 New Haven Fire Department Tiller Bucket Dedication Ceremony for FF Thomas Kelly (Ret)

New Haven Fire Department will host a dedication for FF Thomas Kelly (Ret) on Saturday July 15 2017 at the New Haven Regional Fire Training Academy at approximately 1000 am FF Kelly was severely injured in the line of duty on February 26 1992 The department will be dedicating his tiller bucket that is located outside of the main entrance of the training facility For more details pertaining to the event please refer to the attachment

6 Rescue Technician ndash Trench Rocky Hill

August 5 6 12 13 19 and 20 with Practical Exam on the 27th

This program will train the students to perform technician level trench rescue The training objectives meet NFPA 1006 and OSHA 1926 Students will evaluate trenches and soil conditions will learn to shore unprotected straight and intersecting trenches with both community and pneumatic shoring They will also use supplemental shoring when needed Students develop an action plan to manage and remove a victim from a trench accident The PPE requirements are a protective helmet footwear gloves eye protection and work clothes Training prerequisites Rescue Technician Core and Hazardous Materials Operational proof must be submitted with the application Certification Examination Prerequisite Rescue Technician Core and a minimum of EMR certification proof must be submitted with the application For certification to this level an additional practical skills examination of one or two days plus a written test is required Certification testing time requires additional dates for certification written and practical exam Class Hours 48
